Friendly 15th June v Chestfield

The weather forecast was not good!!! But all our ladies and Chestfield arrived in plenty of time to start the match.

Off we went in quite nice weather really - but of course with our fingers well and truly crossed!!

As we progressed around the course an enormous black cloud seemed to be stalking us - and then as the first group arrived on the 8th tee (with everyone else playing their relative holes) the heavens opened!  So we took cover under our umbrellas and donned wet gear, unzipped bananas and took comfort breaks - as you do!  We chatted for about 15 minutes and as the rain subsided continued to play.

However, within minutes the heavens opened once again and the decision was taken and unanimously agreed to call the match a half.

As it turned out the match had actually been halved to that point anyway so it was a reasonable and fair decision. However, I'm confident that given the 18 holes our ladies would have won through.

The Chestfield ladies were more than happy to finish their food and head straight to the Pro Shop - surprise surprise.

Ladies - So much information to get through!

Quiz Night – Friday 13^th May

What a great evening! A fabulous turn out: 12 tables of 6 in a team.   Sausage and chips on the menu.

Thank you very much for your generous donations of bottles and balls – the raffle raised £175.00.  It takes a lot of time and effort to pull off this event – Thank you once again, Jeanette and Bernie for hosting the night.  Lovely unique way you both contribute to the Lady Captains Charity every year and it is very much appreciated.   Looking forward to the next one on Friday 14^th October.

‘2 Captains Challenge’

Malcolm and I also had our first ‘2 captains challenge’ of the season.  Rob and Debbie Satchell.  It was a fun afternoon of golf – Debbie and Rob gave us a good run for their money – we finished our match on the 17^th.  Thank you both for a fun afternoon!

The sign up sheet is on the Captains Notice Board by the Pro Shop if you are thinking of joining us for a game and the vacancies are filling up fast.

Team Texas Scramble

Bank Holiday Monday 30^th May was the Captain’s Team Texas Scramble a well supported event with 28 4 balls taking part.   Congratulations to the winners:  Andrew Upson, Terry Shearman, Den Hughes and James Spearing.

All credit to our Club Captain Malcolm Roberts for the smooth running of the day – the Ladies Section organised the raffle so all together we raised over £1,300 for Spadework.

Looking Ahead

I am now over half way through my Captains year and thoroughly enjoying the experience – we have raised a combined total of over £4,000 so far for our chosen charity.   I really appreciate the support the Ladies Section has shown over the past 6 months.  I am looking forward to all of the events we have lined up for the next 6 months too.

Jane Woodward our Handicap Secretary has been busy training a few committee members on how to input competition cards and we now have a small team able to shadow Jane and Diana Scott going forward.  Thank you Jane for implementing the training.

New Lady Members – we do have approximately 10 newish lady members in our section that have joined over the past year.  I have sent out an email inviting them to join us for a round of golf on Saturday 2^nd July.  Most of us know how daunting it can be when you first start and it would be great if we can integrate some, if not all of these ladies into joining us regularly.

Friday 8^th July (From 4:00 pm) Captains 9 and Dine – Malcolm and I would like to invite all available members to join us for this new competition.  Full information is already on the blog - (see below) - and the sign-up sheet is on the notice board by the men's changing room.  Pay in the office when you sign up.

72 hole golf challenge – in one day!!!  WM Breakfast Club Society – As some of you know my husband Colin plays at West Malling with a group known as ‘The Breakfast Club Society’ - 9 members of this group have volunteered to complete 72 holes in one day for the Captains Charity.

This will kick off at 04:30 on Saturday 2^nd July on the Hurricane – They will be out in 3 balls wearing their team shirts so please wish them well along the way if you spot them!!!

Captains Day – Sunday 10^th July – Joint day with our Club Captain - although ladies will be going out as 3 balls as a drawn competition we will be integrated amongst the men but not playing with them.

BRADLEY COOK FIVE-A-SIDE COMPETITON

 This year saw West Malling drawn against Sundridge Park and Wrotham Heath in the round robin stage of the competition. Our first match at home to Wrotham was a 3-2 loss to us. We next played Sundridge away and all the team put up a good fight but we still lost 4-1. However, Jane was the hero of the day, taking her lady to the 17th and winning 2&1. On the return match at West Malling, we were really up against it and sadly lost 5-0. Rena playing in her first Bradley Cook match put up a spirited fight but lost 2&1. Our final match against Wrotham away was not an impossible task as we needed to win 3-2 or better to stand a chance of going forward to the next round. As Wrotham had lost both their matches against Sundridge 5-0 and we had only lost 4-1 and 5-0 there was still hope. However, it was not to be and we lost 3-2. Everyone put up a valiant fight and Jane and Jill went down the 20th and 19th holes but to no avail as we had already lost 3 matches.
I would like to thank all the ladies who played in the matches this year and for all their team spirit. Lindsay, Lydia, Jane, Jill, Julie, Caroline and Rena thankyou all. As more and more ladies reduce their handicaps they will become eligible to play and I am sure our team will go from strength to strength in the coming years and proceed further in the competition.

Our ladies played their friendly match at home against Weald of Kent on Wednesday 8th June in glorious sunshine and went on to win all four matches.  Well done team – great result!

Mixed Flag Sunday 5th June '16

We started the day with lovely weather and it stayed that way with everyone in good spirits.  Eighteen pairs started the competition so a good turn out and thank you to everyone for all their support.  The course is starting to get a bit tougher with the rough being left quite long and the greens getting quite fast.  We all seemed to have a lot of fun and were making bets to see whose flag would appear first!  I personally had a bet with the lady captain on this and I lost so had to supply Lisa with a prosecco after we had finished.

27 ladies supported this very special day and Roy was there to greet us all upon completing our stableford competition. He has bought the most wonderful trophy which has been engraved accordingly. Off the fairways the course played very heavy no doubt in preparation for the forthcoming Masters.
