LADY CAPTAIN’S REPORT APRIL 2016

The Ladies took on the Vets on the 17th March. This Spring Meeting is always a tough match for us as the tee positions are advantageous to our opponents, although we do get our own back in the Autumn! We were one lady down that morning due to illness and the Vets very kindly offered us one of their men to play for us.  Claude – what can I say, we were very thankful to him for stepping up. We renamed our new recruit Claudia and he made a fair point to Vets Captain Joe, that he should play off the red tees and get 2 extra shots as per all the other ladies. Alas, to no avail.  However, Pat West and Claude won their match fair and square as did Diana and Rena and two games were halved.  The outcome was a loss to the ladies 5-3.  We had a lovely day and there is a photo on the Vets website (wmgc Vets) of me presenting a very happy Joe Gabay with the trophy!
The return Autumn Meeting is on Monday 17th October. The Vets are always oversubscribed so ladies, put it in your diaries as this was an enjoyable day and Joe was the perfect host. NB we have never lost the Autumn Meeting – so please, not on my watch!!!

We had two Easter fun ‘Precious Pinkies’ Drawn competitions going out in 3 Balls.  Precious was the word – the pressure not to lose the pink ball was intense – My two playing partners shouted with glee when it was I that hit ‘precious pinkie’ into the water on the 5th on the Tuesday!!!

Tuesday 22nd March was perfect weather with a turnout of 15 ladies:

1st place          Lindsay Hart, Gill Harman, Carol Eldridge 85 points
2nd place         Pat West, Sheila Reay, Jennie Aldridge 74 points

Nearest the pin:         7th Joyce Paterson
Spitfire                        16th Lindsay Hart

Saturday 26th March – 20 Ladies:

1st place          Sally Payne, Judith Parkhurst, Carol Eldridge 99 points
2nd place         Sara Burbridge, Sadie Millgate, Elaine Katter 97 points

Nearest the pin:         8th Julie Harris
Hurricane                   17th Carol Eldridge

We raised £107.00 for the Spadework charity.  Thank you very much for your support.

Things are really starting to get busy.  In the past month we have also had Coronation Foursomes, Mixed Yard of String, Rosebowl and the Elizabeth Budd

We held our Spring Meeting on Tuesday. This is a well supported event, with 40 ladies staying for lunch.  The Sun came out for us! I will leave the announcement of the winners to our Competition Secretary. However, well done to Eunice Tasker and Pam Honeybone winners of the Spring Quiz.  Obviously very keen gardeners.  Thanks to Julie Harris for putting the quiz together – it challenged us all!

We had 6 of our Swinging 60’s taking part in the Daffodil Competition. We would love a bigger take up – so please if you are at least 70 years young, then do sign up for ‘Harvest Gold’ in the Autumn Meeting.

I am really looking forward to the next month starting off on Thursday with our first ‘friendly’ against Westerham at home and on the same day the Pearson Team will be playing away against Shortlands – good luck West Malling!

I have been into Spadework this week and they are very much looking forward to welcoming us for the Afternoon Tea on Saturday 16th and Tuesday 19th.  If there are any ladies that would like to put their names down – friends and family are also welcome, please speak to either Rena or myself as there are still a few places left. Come and join me for a glass of prosecco – my treat!

The list of available dates for the Two Captain’s Challenge is now up on the notice board by the Pro Shop. Malcolm and I look forward to challenging members to a round of golf in aid of the charity. So if you are willing to take on a couple of competitive ‘lefties’ please pick a date and sign up!

I am so pleased and grateful that Jeannette and Bernie have agreed to run the Quiz night on Friday 13th May – details will be available by the end of this week.  In the meantime get your team of 6 organised and start swatting up.

The sign up sheet for the May Bank Holiday Texas Scramble on the 30th is up near the Pro shop – don’t forget to get your team name sorted and join in.

On a personal note, I would like to say a big thank you for all your good wishes, cards and gifts presented to me for my 50th Birthday last week.  I am completely overwhelmed and loved every minute of it!

Happy Golfing Ladies
Lisa Kiddie

Lady Captain
