Lady Captain's Report - March/April

March seemed to pass in similar fashion to February… namely rain and mud and cancelled competitions – there’s a theme developing! The Easter Fun comp on Tuesday wasn’t so much fun as a nice coffee morning, but it was lovely to see everyone, and not to waste the opportunity of a captive audience, we managed to raise £76 for My Shining Star by raffling off the Easter egg prizes, and selling charity wrist bands. My thanks go to everyone for their generosity and to Rena and Sally for doing a grand job selling bands and tickets respectively.

Saturday, with a minor break in the weather allowed us to complete 12 holes – at last, a valid competition. Plenty of chocolate to go round, so everyone was a winner.
Thanks to Gill Newson for the Nearest the Pin prize.

My thanks to all ladies who took part in the first major competition against the men, the dreaded Vets! We were lucky with the weather for once and the two-tiered tee start didn’t prove too tricky to manage all in all…. The biggest thing to note is that the men played off the whites.
Valiant efforts all round and some really close matches, but unfortunately the end results as well as a few bounces, went in the men's favour; 4 wins, 2 halves and 2 losses, meaning 5-3 win to the Vets. Still, great spirit all round and plenty of chat but they have the cup which we need to win back in the autumn.

The Mixed Yard of String proved as popular as ever. We have a break in April before the Mixed picks up again in May.

The Quiz night on 18 May has had to be re-scheduled as John Harrison and a large group will be away on the 18th, and we need to keep numbers up to ensure to continuation of the Quiz night. The new date is Friday 4 May which was the only one workable before July (and that’s too late in the year). I will put notices up in the next few days.

Finally, a reminder that the Captain’s Ball has been moved to November 10th – so all you dancing queens out there, don’t take a chance of missing it, get it in your diary now!
