Lady Captain Report - Sep & Oct

Lady Captain – September 2018

Lady Captain’s Away day:
A slightly cool day awaited us at Poult Wood, but bacon rolls set us off on the right foot. I had great fun playing a couple of holes with each group, challenging them to either out drive me or get nearer the pin (or actually the green on my part – Anne won hands down on that one!) Small tins of alcohol were the reward.  Everyone was a winner in my eyes, but those who took home the bacon were: 1st: Joyce, Judy and Penny with an outrageous 89 points. Well played indeed!
2nd: Sally, Cathy and Kim with an impressive 84 points.
3rd: Debbie, Molly and Rena with a commendable 77 points.

NP on 5: Judy (bravo)
NP on 17: Rena
LD on 11: Kim

Thanks to Rena for point blank refusing to offer change to anyone and making extra money for charity.

Overnighter
Goes without saying that what happens on tour stays on tour....
But a great time was had by all (well if you didn’t, I didn’t hear about it and don’t really care – hahaha). A massive thank you to Gill for organising with Dale Hill and getting the numbers right at the end. Not an easy task and the one thing I know I have to do next year – just when I thought I was safe. There were prizes for both days and nearest the pins on each course each day too, so plenty of chances to shine.
Huge thanks to Kim for the as ever amusing evening entertainment - what a tough act to follow.

Autumn Meeting:
A great day as always with a fantastic turn out from across the ladies section - thanks to you all; Kim for organising the draw and food orders, Sally for sorting the finances, Diana for doing the cards, and again for the lovely table and changing room flowers, and especially Vicky Richardson for her sponsorship of the event (huge apologies for not saying so at the presentation ceremony, it was on the sign up sheet but no excuse). I telephoned her afterwards. I thought the pie and pudding were excellent, certainly there were clean plates all around, so well done chef!

Also a huge thank you to those ladies who have returned their Smarties tubes: Lindsay, Helen, Denise, Pat, Carol M, Judy Kaye (plus Kim’s Mum & Dad and her sister & brother-in-law). If anyone still has their tube, please do carry on collecting change!

Thanks to all who brought raffle prizes and to everyone for buying tickets, and thanks to Denise and Vicki Common for selling and tearing them up! We made a fantastic £185 for charity. You rock ladies!

The Ladies v Merlins – what can I say but a resounding 5-1 win, much to Malcolm’s distress! Great fun as always and played in the right spirit. Thanks to all who played.

Lady Captain – October 2018

This month it’s mostly a results kinda thang:

Ladies v. Wednesday Boys
A very close match was had by all – we lost 3 ½ to 1 ½  - but good as it was Laurie Day’s Birthday.
My thanks to all for taking part and Sue Gofton for playing captain on the day.

Ladies v. The Vets
The return fixture on the Spitfire, would this be revenge at last…?? Err, no!! Yes they played off the White tees, but no they weren’t very far back and yes, there are still some most ludicrous handicaps held by the Vets… no comment!
A good atmosphere and chatty banter on the whole.
Thanks ladies for your valiant efforts, a loss of    to
Special thanks to Rena for captaining the side.

Ladies v. Breakfast Club
Despite the matches starting later than the boys are used to, and there being a couple of dodgy subs for them…. It didn’t pay dividends.. Although most matches did go to the wire, we went down 7-1, so the losing streak continues!! However, worth mentioning Sally and Shirley for their magnificent victory.

So that’s it for the inter-club matches this year. It’s not a record I shall boast about, but let’s just remember the Merlins (5-1) and Pegasus (6-3) victories shall we!!

A bright spot to end on is the Quiz Night (full report is already on the blog) but a BIG THANK YOU to all 11 teams who took part, hosted by Gary Johnson from RacingEvents, Brands Hatch.
Money raised as follows: Raffle: £290, T & T: £64

Special mention to Jane Woodward for her wining £100 bid for Gary's Brands Hatch hospitality package. Very generous and very much appreciated.

The Tribute Ball – 10 November, the BIG ONE on the horizon. Need to drum up more interest otherwise the club will open it up to outsiders to make the money. We have been warned!

Finally, my sponsored walk for My Shining Star is a go go… Lydia is looking at the route for me so I shall mercilessly ask for money as cash, online through Just Giving: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/jill-gambling or by text (Text ETRK63 £10 to 70070).

As the AGM approaches, I’ll send out reminders about any Smarties tubes that might be filling up!

The year is nearing its conclusion, nothing disastrous so far, but there’s still time!

Jill
