Changes at the Club.......................

Dear Ladies

I attended a Club meeting on Tuesday 29th April. The following points were discussed:

Weekend Tee Bookings
We were informed that as of the 1st June 2013 tee times will be introduced on both courses at the weekend as well as week days.
There will be a two month trial period and Greg, Kevin & Kate are keen to have your feedback during this period whether good or bad!
Members will also be able to book tee times three weeks in advance as of the 11th May 2013. So if you wish to play golf on Saturday the 1st you can book your tee time from 11th May!!

Tee times at the weekends will start from either 7:00am or 7:30am but this has yet to be decided by the club.

Members will be able to book guests in from that time in the morning and for those who are worried about society bookings, these will not be booked in until 11:00am.

Membership
Bearing in mind the current climate, the club understand the need to be competitve with regards to the fees that members pay. The club is now heading in the right direction but need to maintain by increasing the membership at the club so are offering the following:

  • If you introduce a new member they pay £67.00 per month for a year, your fees reduce to £80.00 per month.
  • If the new member stays beyond a year their fees increase to £80.00 per month and yours stay at £80.00 per month. (This includes the husband & wife memberships).
  • This will be a full seven day membership.
The more members we can get to join the club will mean that our fees will stay somewhat static, so if you know anyone who may be interested then please let them know about this offer.

Clubcards
Again with the current finacial climate in mind the club have decided to reduce the yearly clubcard amount to £140.00 per person and instead of this being taken out as two payments in January and June, this money will be taken in four payments of £35.00 pounds at quarterly intervals over the year, making it easier on your purse! This will commence in January 2014.
If anyone has any issues/questions regarding clubcards then please do not hesitate to speak to Greg, Kevin or Kate.

Measuring of the Courses
The measure of the Hurricane Course has now been actioned and we await the news re stroke indexes.
Kevin Still informed us that the Ladies will be returning soon to measure the Spitfire too.
Once I have any news I will let you know.

1st Hole Spitfire
As you know many of the trees on the left of the first fairway have been removed. This is mainly due to EDF Energy and concerns over cables etc. This leaves the fairway very open on that side and a risk of balls being hit onto the A20.
To reduce this risk there will eventually be grass mounds along that side, however this has had to go to Tonbridge & Malling planning office and as you can imagine takes time to deal with, some 14 weeks I believe. It is hoped that work may start in October but may be somewhat later!

Bee Hives
The club have decided to introduce Beee Hives on both courses. Not much information at the present time but we will be the fourth club in the UK to have them.
Before you laugh you may want to take time to google some info on Bees and their purpose! They will be used for pollinating the courses and in time we should see both courses looking prettier due to flowers etc. I am sure there will be more information on this as and when the Bees arrive!

I am aware that some of our Ladies do not have access to the blog or email etc, so please pass this information on where possible.
I will print some copies off for the Ladies Changing room.

If anyone has any concerns regarding the above then please feel free to contact me.

Pearson Team through to Quarter Finals

West Malling have crossed the first hurdle in the defence of their Pearson Trophy title by coming top of their group in the qualifying rounds of this years competition.

Our defeat at Chart Hills last Thursday by 5 matches to 2 had little bearing as we had already won the group the previous week when we won 5 - 2 at a very windy St Augustine's.

In total we won 6 of our 8 matches allowing us to top the group ahead of Chart Hills and Sidcup who both won 5 matches.

We now go forward to play Shortlands in the quarter finals and the matches have been arranged as follows:

  • Wednesday 8th May 2013 at Shortlands with a 2pm start
  • Tuesday 28th May 2013 at West Malling with an 11am start.

The winners of this tie will go forward to Finals Day which this year is being held at Parkwood Golf Club on Wednesday 19th June 2013.

Congratulations go to all the ladies who took part in this years competition and we wish them good luck for their matches against Shortlands.

For those of you that were unable to attend the Spring Meeting I have attached the poem which I read out to the ladies on the day!

Spring Meeting
Today is the 9th of April and we meet to tee a ball
The weather may be iffy it’s a real tough one to call
We head towards the first tee wrapped up in gloves and hats
And practice our first tee shot with our very trusty bats!

We hope to miss the bunkers as we do not like the sand
We much prefer to hit off grass with an iron in our hand
A perfect chip lands on the green and not far from the pin
So you grab your putter and punch the air as you watch your putt roll in!

The game is full of joy and pain as we near the eighteenth hole
The pond is pulling your golf ball as you’re aiming for the goal
As you tee your ball and swing your club determined for the green
You are glad you missed the water and your ball can still be seen.

The round now finished we lose our clubs and head towards the bar
With friends we chat about our golf, a birdie, bogey or par!
We wonder who scored well today and eagerly wait to hear
If isn’t us on this occasion we’ll be back again next year!
Lady Captains Report – March 2013
Spring was supposed to have ‘sprung’ on the 20th March however the cold weather has continued at sub zero temperatures and more snow!
March started with the Cecil Leitch 5-club comp on 5th and 9th, Judith will update you with the result in her report.
On the 21st March the Ladies played against the Vets and unfortunately lost the match 5/2! The day was good fun and the match played in fine sporting manner. There was the usual post match banter  that the men’s tees were only  about five yards behind ours and that a couple of men’s handicaps were somewhat ‘generous’, however  I reluctantly presented Mike Cockle (the Vets Captain) with the trophy and said that he had better make the most as we will be looking to win it back in September!
The Coronation Foursomes was played on the 26th and 30th and again Judith will update you with the result in her report.
Easter was early this year and was followed by my Easter Fun Competition. The weather was extremely cold again but the sun was at least shining! Some of the ladies had put their ‘BluePeter’ hats on and produced some amazing Easter Bonnets and I have put the photographs on the Ladies blog for all to see. The winners on Tuesday were:
Joyce Paterson, Eunice Tasker and Margaret Barnard with 69 points
2nd place was Sue Gofton, Carol Martin and Lisa Kiddie with 67 points
Judy Kaye won the prize for the best Easter Bonnet.
Saturday’s weather was much improved and reflected in the scores. Again the Easter Bonnets were great!
Winners were Molly Ball, Sandra Alexander and Lesley Shott with 82 points
2nd Place was Pat West, Georgina Venus and Debbie Conder with 77 points
There was no individual Easter Bonnet winner, but those that had made them were awarded a pack of golf balls.
The two comps raised £90.00 for my charity so I am extremely grateful to the Ladies for taking part.
Sunday 7th April saw the first of our Mixed Competitions for this year being the Douglas Bader. This was well represented and a great social event. I won’t give you the results as Julie Harris will cover this in her report.
I am really looking forward to the Spring Meeting tomorrow (9th April) and to meeting up with our ladies, the results of which will be discussed at our next meeting.

Easter Fun Comp - Take Two! - Saturday 6th April 2013

There were seven groups of Ladies that played in the Saturday competition. There were again some  Easter Bonnet masterpieces on show, some even managed to play in their hats for the whole round, I am amazed at your efforts Ladies!

I must admit the weather was somewhat improved by the saturday which reflected in the scores.
The winners were Sandra Alexander, Molly Ball and Lesley Shott with an amazing 82 points! Second was Pat West, Georgina Venus and yours truly with a score of 77 points!
Golf balls were awarded to the makers of the bonnets and I have attached some pictures from the day, so enjoy!

A total of £90.00 was raised over the two days, so hopefully you had fun whilst fundraising, a huge thank you to all of you.

Here are Jill Gambing, Yvonne Gormley and Carol Eldridge with their beautifully designed bonnets! What a great effort ladies and well done for keeping them on for the whole of the round!

Mrs Rena Jones modelling a sun hat with a chick that looks as though it's about to lose its grip!

For those of you that cannot recognise this golfer, she is Georgina Venus and made her hat out of her Easter Egg box, peak and all!

Here we have Mrs Julie Harris with a great hat demonstrating everything that is Easter!

Finally here are our winners for the Saturday, Molly Ball, Lesley Shott and Sandra Alexander, well done Ladies!
