I am looking forward to seeing those of you that are playing in Captains Day on Sunday!
There will be a reception desk where you will find both Goff and myself, and where you will collect your cards and other goodies!
The men treat this day as a charity day and fund raiser but I am aware that this is a change for the Ladies.
Goff and I will be collecting your £8.00 buffet money at our reception desk as this is mandatory. Goff however will be asking the men for £20.00 which covers a donation to charity, cost of the buffet and raffle tickets.
You have the option to do the same, however, it is not a problem if you just wanted to pay for your buffet and raffle tickets and not the charity money, so please don't feel pressured.
The day is casual so if you didn't want to bring a change of clothes then thats fine, if you do then thats fine too.
Presentation will be at the end of the day approx. 17:00 to 17:30 so please be patient and understanding for those that are teeing off later in the day. There will be separate prizes for Ladies & Men.
For information, the Ladies trophies will not be presentred for the previous six months as has been the norm in past years. These will be presented at the next available opportunity, possibly the Mid-Week Trophy or when the winners of the winter matchplays etc are in attendance.
Finally, I hope you all enter into the spirit of the day, I understand that this is change for all of us, but this is how it will be going forward so it will be what we make it and I am sure that 'Ladies Team West Malling' will make the day a good one!
Looking forward to seeing you there!!

Mixed Away Day - Etchinghill
Bank Holiday Monday 27th May saw twenty two mixed pairs heading towards the coast to take part in this year's Mixed Away day at Etchinghill Golf Club.
What a great golf course, even if we did think that the flat, level par three course was the main course! Oh no we were very mistaken as we headed on up the hill like mountain goats!! With 'Mulligans' in hand we commenced our games. The greens were tricky and frustrating but they were in good condition.
The weather was beautiful but the breeze was a little keen so those that turned up in skorts and shorts were a little chilly to say the least! I had a jumper on but ended up borrowing Rena's padded gillet for warmth for as we climbed higher it did get colder!
It was funny to look back at everyone as they all began building up their clothing layers some even had woolly hats on!
With the Golf played, we headed for the bar, in the first instance to warm up and secondly to have a well earned drink.
The food was great and everyone was sitting with their playing partners and others and chatting over the golf and the day! It was lovely to see everyone relaxing and enjoying themsleves!
We held the presentation and the results were as follows:
Nearest the Pin - Lady - Brenda Wilson
Nearest the Pin - Man - Lew Evans
Longest Drive - Lady - Carrie Beech
Longest Drive - Man - Joe Harris
Main Competition:
3rd Place - Sue & Malcolm Gofton - 40 Points On count back to Yvonne & Robert Gormley
2nd Place - Carrie & Lawrie Beech - 41 Points
1st Place - Jane Woodward & Rob Twinning - 43 Points
The day was for everyone's enjoyment with a bit of Charity fund raising added in and I am pleased to announce that £296.00 was raised on the day!
I would like to say a huge thank you to Lydia for booking the day. We were given goodie bags when we arrived which were full of little pens, sweets and chocolate, and I would like to thank Robert & Yvonne Gormley for providing the chocolate.
To Jule Harris and Gill Newson what can I say! You both organised an amazing day and I have no doubts that everyone enjoyed themselves. Leading up to the day, I kept asking both the ladies if they needed me to do anything, and on every occasion they said 'no' and that they had everything in hand, well ladies you did us very proud and I am so thankful for all the effort you put into the day!
Finally, thank you to all who took part and joined us at Etchinghill!

Captain V Secretary
What a week!
We played the first round of the Captain V Secretary on Tuesday. The ladies were drawn in their pairs and I believe there were some good matches and some great golf played! The result was 2-1 to the Captain!
On Thursday our 'over 60' ladies took part and again some great golf was played, however this time the score came in as 2-1 to the Secretary!
With the score all level everything hinged on the ladies playing on the Saturday!
Twenty ladies took part on Saturday and there were some tough matches played.
The scores were in and believe it or not we were all square! I did challenge Sue to a repeat of the 18th hole but it was felt that the result was a fair one.
As we know this is a great bit of fun and it appears that everyone likes the matchplay challenge. I would like to say on behalf of Sue and myself that we enjoyed the week and thank you all for taking part!

CDH Numbers (Central Database Handicaps)
Further to my previous post re handicaps, I have enquired about our Ladies CDH numbers and am pleased to inform you that all ladies have been allocated a number.
You can obtain this number either by asking the office or you can open up an account on the 'England Golf' website and they will send you a card with your CDH number on! I have registered myself and it is very straight forward!
The great thing about this number is that you will not necessarily have to provide a handicap certificate if you play in Open competitions etc!
If you have any problems with any of the above and how you gain access to the website etc, then please either contact the office at West Malling or me!

Handicaps
Dear Ladies Section
As of the 13th May all Ladies Handicaps are now held by the club instead of the Ladies Section.
This decision has been made for two reasons:
a) All Ladies will now been allocated a CDH (Central Database for Handicaps) number and will therefore be able to access information on their handicaps wherever you play. This is extremely helpful when playing Open competitons as you may not need to provide a handicap certificate!
b) Each year the handicap system has to be updated. This came at a cost of around £800.00 to the Club this year and as part of that; the club would usually receive a disc so that the Ladies Section computer could be updated too. However, this year there was no disc provided, therefore we were unable to update our information and came to 'deadlock' as we could not update our records!
I understand that this is a major change to our normal handicap system but I am sure you will agree that these changes need to take place to ensure we keep up to date with the new systems.
As far as the section is concerned, we will run our usual Medal & Stableford competitions as normal and the cards will continue to be placed in the box upstairs, and monies will continue to be taken in the pro-shop. As handicap secretary, Carol Martin and Lisa Kiddie will collect the cards and hand them to the office for input onto the system.
Please remember that your handicap is your responsibility, therefore if you have a good round and are aware that you may have reduced your handicap, then you should contact Carol Martin or Lisa Kiddie for confirmation and to ensure that you are playing off the correct handicap for your next round!
Likewise, if you feel that you may have increased your handicap then again the above applies.
Our competitions will be run as usual and results and prizes will continue to be presented on the day, however, the cards will need to be input by the club so we will have to wait for any handicap increases and decreases information to follow.
All handicap certificate requests will now need to be made to the club.
I hope this clarifies the situation at the present time, although there are bound to be a few teething problems, but the committee will deal with these as they arise!
Should you have any concerns or issues regarding your handicap then please contact any of the following:
Carol Martin - 07930 422872
Lisa Kiddie - 07525 935640
Debbie Conder - 07784 723753
Or any other person on the committee.
Thank you
Debbie

Ladies V Joe's Raiders!.......................
Dear All
I am now back from our Ladies Golfing break to Turkey and what a fun week we had! It was a real treat to be able to play golf in a warmer climate and although we brought the weather back in readiness for the mixed on Sunday 19th, unfortunately it has gotten colder as the week has progressed, so please bring back the sun!!
I just wanted to give you an update following the great day that we shared with Joe Harris's Raiders and others.
I hope you all enjoyed the day and the banter pre and after the match. Although the Ladies lost overall, the actual match against the Raiders was halved so there is hope for September!
As you were aware this was a charity event for my charity British Heart Foundation and I am overwhelmed by the amount that was raised on the day. The total amount was................................£1240.00!!!!!!!!! and as you can imagine I am over the moon!
I want to thank you all so very much not only for taking part and entering into the spirit of the day, but also for your generous donations!
Thank you, thank you, thank you....
