Unfortunately the mountain we had to climb today proved to be a little too high. We were beaten by Redlibbets and that, for this year anyway is the end of West Malling's run in the Bradley Cook competition.
Sue, Lydia, Jane, Kelly, Helen V, Debbie T, Debbie C, Caroline and Jill represented West Malling in the Scratch Team and got through to the semi finals. Jane and Helen, I am sure are both grateful to have had the opportunity to gain experience in public speaking in preparation for their roles next year. West Malling has a strong pool of relatively low handicap players now and under Helen's leadership next year will surely do even better in 2014.

Bradley Cook Parallel Plate Semi Final Away Match
West Malling took a small pasting at Redlibbets on Sunday in the away match of the Parallel Plate Semi Final. We achieved one good win, two close losses and two not so close losses. We need to win 5 nil or have 4 good wins on Friday in the home match to secure our place in the final. We have a strong line up with Sue, Debbie T, Helen V, Debbie C and Caroline and they will give it a good go. Supporters on Friday at 2pm will be very welcome. Dig in Team!

Goff's Inter Society Challenge!
Sunday 25th August - Goffs Inter Society Challenge Competition.
Today we had 7 pairs of ladies who took part in the above challenge. There was a 'shot gun' starton the Hurricane and yours truly together with my trusty partner Lisa Kiddie were drawn on the 12th tee, so we had a long walk before we even started!
Each pair of Ladies was drawn with other pairings from the various scoieties within the club, eg, Merlins, Raiders, Yellow Perils, Toots, Breakfast Club and a couple of others.
Well I am delighted to inform you that the Ladies came 3rd with an average of 34.8 close to 2nd The Merlins and 1st was the Toots!!!!
Congratulations all those that played you all put the Ladies Section on the map!!!!

West Malling Ladies Open
What a day!
We arrived at the club at 07:15am on the morning of the Open ready to set up the reception desk, put up the gazebo for the halfway tent and other bits and pieces!
The sun was shining and at 23 degrees promised to be a super day!
There were 33 teams of 3 Ladies playing on the day so we knew that the day would be busy. Judith Parkhurst, Pat West and Carol Martin took care of the reception desk with great team work!
Goff Norrington and John Harrison were our starters on the day and sent the teams on their way up the first and thirteenth fairways!
Jane and I were in charge of the gazebo and managed to get it in place ready for Viv Allen and her friend Wendy to set up the 'halfway tent'.
Jane had arranged for our 'ball spotters' to work in shifts so thank you to Carol Eldridge, Stella Pitt, Pat Donovan, Sue Stickland, Helen Venis, Diana Scott, Sadie Millgate, Julie Harris, Rena Jone's, Lisa Kiddie, Pat Leadbetter, Belinda Evans, Jane's Nieces and Denise Farley.
Unfortunately one Lady was stung by a wasp but no first aid was needed as she had anti-histamine's and pain killers with her!
Prizes were very kindly donated by the guys in the Pro-Shop and I must admit the prize table looked great!
Kate and her team put on a good rolling buffet with all sorts of cold meats and various salads, followed by strawberries and cream, then coffee.
Prizes were awarded as follows:
Nearest the Pin - Vicki Ely - Sundridge Park
Longest Drive - Anne Goodchild
Best Team name - Morris and the not so Minors
6th Place - Potential Tigers - 85 Points
5th Place - Lady Birdies - 88 (on count back)
4th Place - 3 off the Tee - 88
3rd Place - Return of the 3 Birdies - 89
2nd Place - 2 Fat Ladies + 1 - 90
1st Place - Ladies of the Fairway - 96 from Stone Lees Golf Club
There was a birdie 2's competition and there were 5 ladies who managed a Birdie!
The event managed to raise around £600 to £650 for the Ladies Section and £310 for the Lady Captains Charity.
I had so many Ladies approach me to say that they have never been to such a well organised Open competition where the Ladies were so helpful! They fully appreciated the 'ball spotters' being r on the course knowing that their balls had been found and also helping to keep play going.
As I said at the presentation our organiser for this year Jane Woodward has done and excellent job not only in securing 33 teams but in organising the event so well. It takes a lot of hard work and effort to make the day a success but Jane certainly achieved her goal so congratulations to her!
A huge thank you to all the Ladies that played a part on the day and for making it a great success.

Ladies V Wednesday Boys
This was a new match for this year as Goff Norrington was keen to mix the Ladies and Gents where possible!
There were some good matches played and everyone that took part enjoyed their games.
The final result was that we lost 4 - 2 but hopefully another date can be fixed for this next year!
