Latest Friendly Report

Away to Canterbury  - team victorious away !
After a 4 nil defeat on our home turf in 2013 the team were victorious when we visited Canterbury on 12 July.
We won 3 / 1 so well done to everyone who played.
The lady captain and her ladies extended a great welcome and we enjoyed a very warm day after braving the county show traffic and a round trip in excess of 70 miles for some of us.  A course very much worth a visit was very kind to us and it is certainly a good test.
Our invite for next year has been accepted so i am sure they will gunning for us.

Home to Redlibbets - a great new friendly fixture
As the heatwave continued we welcomed the Redlibbets ladies to West Malling on 24 July.
As a new fixture and one enjoyed by all.  One quote 'the redlibbets ladies were really great fun'.  That said, we didn't let the ladies get the better of us and we had a 4 nil win which is the best overall fixture result to date.
Judith was due to be team captain but due to illness passed the baton to Sue Stickland who stepped in at the last minute and even got Joyce P to play as we had no reserves.  Big thanks to the team but especially Sue and Joyce. We are also glad that Judith made a speedy recovery.

Final 2014  fixtures
Our final friendlies of the year  are organised.
Home match to Kings Hill on 21st Aug  and Home match to St Augustines on 6 September (we are short of one player for this fixture so please let me know if you play)
Team sheets were posted on the blog in July and there is a copy on the noticeboard. .

Results round up for the season so far ...more wins than losses. Well done ladies!! .

Finally, just to say support for the friendlies this year has been amazing so I never get bored saying t'hanks' to everyone who has taken part or has been a team captain.
It really is only by having everyone behind these things that we can enjoy days showing off West Malling and enjoying some good courses/ value days out elsewhere.  Added to that matchplay and practising this format makes for our other teams  being stronger. and match ready! So thank you.

The Addington Ladies Open 2014

West Malling ladies got second place in the Addington Ladies Open on Tuesday 15th July.

The team comprising our Lady Captain Jane, Rena Jones, Julie Harris & Sue Stickland notched up 91 points which was a fabulous performance as only 2 scores counted on all holes on a very challenging course.

Lady Captains Report July 2014.

Well another month has passed and again I can’t believe how quickly time is passing. Another month of full on golf. The calendar really is full. Last month consisted off a mixed comp, two friendlies, club captains day, two trophy competitions, pro-am, the new past captains trophy comp and culminating with the club masters weekend. As well as Bradley cook our section knockout comps and the usual medals and stableford. Also at this time of year  I know away days also are being entered. Looking at the calendar July is going to be just as busy. A BIG thanks as ever to everyone who makes these events so successful and too my Vice Georgina for stepping in and covering whilst allowing me to play in the Bradley cook matches. Even I can’t be in two places at once.

Club captain’s day was a great success and over £500 pounds was raised for my charity. I think the hog roast was appreciated and the shot gun start which allowed us all to relax and enjoy the afternoon. Mid-week trophy comp was again kindly sponsored by Joyce Ellis, and next year maybe we can encourage more ladies to take part. The Mid-Season pairs competition formally the Barbara  Wilson trophy was played in brilliant sunshine and great fun was had by all.  Thanks to Pat West for sponsoring this. A new competition sponsored by yours truly was the “past Captains Challenge” with a twist. 14 past captains where able to attend and our longest serving captain was Eileen who was captain in 1983.This will be included as an annual event, but the twist will change. This year most of our ladies had caddies and everyone had a part to play. Next year it is hoped that all past captains will have a caddie. I was delighted that our club president Vicky was able to join us and present the prizes. Gill Harmen came first with 36pts and Eileen Tuson second with 35. Nearest the pin for out caddie’s was Carol Eldridge.

Lastly we come to the masters, always a nerve racking experience just trying to qualify for the second day. My thanks go to all the Ladies who gave it a go, again great support as ever from the ladies section and many congrats to all those that made it through to Sunday. Unfortunately the club didn’t provide a leader board and I’m still trying to get a results list. As soon as I do this will be posted on the blog and in the changing rooms.

As mentioned earlier July’s diary is as full as June’s. The ladies v Wednesday boys match has been cancelled for this Thursday but a new date will be set, so look out for the new sign-up sheet. Also sheets are up for the “Ladies v Pegasus” and Joe’s raiders charity day. I assure you this date is not to be missed FUN with a Capital F.

By now most of you will have heard that at long last the negotiations with the seekers trust has reached its conclusion and we will be getting the land back on the Hurricane course. Also planning permission has been granted for the moulds to be erected on the 1st hole on the Spitfire. Lorry movements will commence very soon so please take care on the driveway. New directional signage has been ordered for both courses so please adhere to their instruction. Already in place is the temporary sign for the call up hole on the 9th.

Again please check the blog as more and more information is appearing on it.

Lastly I’m sorry to have to mention this but “Slow play” is becoming more of a problem and is all of our responsibility. If you find yourself in a group with someone that is slow tell them. They might not realise there is a problem. We need to be telling people to speed up in between play. It reflects badly on the section.

Good Luck with your golf in July.

Best Wishes Jane.

On June 18th we welcomed the Chestfield ladies to West Malling and played our match on the hurricane course.
