Thursday 19th February 2015

We played our Pearson match away to Knole Park today.  It was very cold and the rain stayed away until the very end. Unfortunately it wasn't our day, Caroline Harrison was out first, played well winning 3 and 2
We lost the other 6 matches,  four of them only being lost on the 18th or 19th.
Well done to all the ladies for trying their best.
We have two more matches to play, both against West Kent, so hopefully all is not lost.
Thank you to Sue Stickland, Jane Woodward, Helen Cornwell, Viv Allen, Jean and Jeff Alback for their support today.

Cycle London 2 Paris - fund-raiser

On June 10th, myself and Joe Harris set off on our bikes from London 2 Paris for a 300 mile challenge to raise money for  two important charities which will get a 50/50 split of our combined totals.

-          The Diabetes Centre at Darent Valley Hospital my Lady Captains Charity

and
-         Maidstone Hospital Oncology Unit via Macmillan - I know you all know people supported here.

Joe has named his challenge 'Harris 2 Paris' a cool tag name!, whilst I am simply 'Team WMGC'  - there are spaces if you would like to join us!
Training is under way and the important countdown has begun.......

We hope you can support the challenge. Fund-raising is under way via Virginmoneygiving.  Here are links to our pages:

www.uk.virginmoneygiving.com/team/joeharris58

Alternatively, we will also have forms posted soon at the club.

We hope to provide some updates of our adventure between now and then so you can chart our progress and more importantly feel a part of it.

We started fundraising last Thursday and are already blown away by people's generosity - £1500 so far excluding gift aid!  Lesley has already moaned that I have no photo on my page so I will work to fix that - she thinks it will encourage more donations - me I am not so sure!!

From both of us - thanks in advance.

Georgina

Lady Captains Report February 2015

The last month is I am sure the calm before the storm when activity hots up. Thankfully the course has only been closed twice so there has been some golf played and eligible cards posted. I have been able to get some time away and have begun my training for the London to Paris Bike ride which I will be doing in June for the Lady Captains charity.  I have my new bike so now the countdown of 120 days to go has begun.
Our committee have been working hard to make us ready for the year ahead with prep beginning and handovers from 2014 completed.
The knockout sheets have been posted by Carol & Sue and Gill has posted the mixed sheet also.  Lesley has been ensuring we are keeping our finances straight and is getting some new processes in place to make our life easier.
Our own open has been agreed and posted on Golf Empire and Lisa is now busily recruiting entrants for next year.  Hopefully you will be spreading the word to your own golf network to encourage early sign up. Leaflets are, or will be in the locker room shortly.
The committee have hibernated this month for the ‘IDEA of the month prize’  but I hope I am not stealing her thunder, one committee member used tenacity and a determined approach with our bankers Nat West and we will be receiving a ££’s credit to our ladies funds which is not only a bonus but gratefully received.  Lisa Kiddie therefore will get the bottle of wine for her effort and a big thank you from all of us.
The inevitable changes to our competition calendar have begun and notices have been posted on the board and the blog, these include the Pro Comp and the Merlins match, two events which I know are popular have been confirmed.   My meeting with the management team is scheduled for later in February so I will confirm any new dates as soon as these have been agreed.
I attended my first club council meeting at the end of January.  The meeting covered items from work being completed on the course and requests from the members, other points discussed were men section focussed and prep for the golfing season.
I, along with one of the other committee members asked for wood chippings to be laid on the more slippery areas on the Hurricane as it was pretty bad in January when I played. I was out on the course at the weekend (7/2) and noticed that those requests had been actioned so I have thanked the office.  Our tee boxes are also being shared with the yellow / white tees and as I thought was informed this is a practice across a lot of courses so this would  not change, but I have noticed the grass on most of the tees had been cut and there has been some general maintenance completed..
Work on the Spitfire has been progressing to plan and Kevin Still reported that the first hole would remain closed during February and that the hope was to open the new 2nd hole in late March,  I have noticed that this has been turfed now so hopefully this will remain on schedule.   Kevin also reported that the team were looking at doing something for the members as he and the team know that putting up with the mud has been warring , this will happen when the lorry deliveries cease.
The Cupid Pairs (the valentine’s fun) is the first of the comps this year and today I joined the ladies after their game as I was unable to play and heard tales of putts missed as is the nature of the game.  The Tuesday gang certainly enjoyed their day with winners being Diana Scott and Judith Parkhurst with 42 points and Julie Harris and Eileen Tuson in 2nd with 40 points.  Sue Stickland picked up the nearest the pin prize on the 8th hole.
I look forward to playing on Saturday  (Valentines Day) and hope that everyone who takes part enjoys it and that February sees continued golfing.

Happy golfing and swing slow.

Regards g

Cupid Pairs - Results 10/2 and 14/2

I hope you all had a lovely valentines.

I write to thank you all for supporting the drawn pairs competitions held last week and to congratulate the winners.   Funds for the charity has been boosted by £108 - thank you.

We had some love heart sweeties to celebrate and I even got a peck on the cheek from Rena on Saturday as her sweetie said Kiss me and I was the nearest!

I joined the ladies on Tuesday for a catch up after the game and the banter in the club house and the pairings proved to be successful.  Saturday was the same and I know the group who played behind me made their presence heard by the laughter resounding around the course - you know who you are!!

Well done to the Winners

Tuesday 10/2         Hurricane
Diana  & Judith with 42 pts
Julie & Eileen with 40pts
Sue S won nearest the pin on the 8th hole

Saturday 14/2          Spitfire
Sue S & Georgina with 39 pts
Donna & Eileen with 38pts
Sue S won nearest the pin on the 7th hole but did a lucky dip draw and split the prize (2 pairs of socks) with another pair  - Kim & Sally

Next fun will be held at Easter and details will be posted on the noticeboard soon.

Bradley Cook Captain for 2015

As most of you know Helen Venis has moved on to pastures new and therefore cannot captain the Bradley Cook in 2015.  I have sent Helen a card to wish her well in her new club on behalf of the section, especially after the success of last year - getting to the final of the plate - happy days!

So there has been a spot to fill for who will be our Bradley Cook Team Captain for the forthcoming season.

Sue Stickland has kindly stepped up and is busily mapping out dates for with the team.  Our round robin draw has to be played by 22nd June and we have drawn Sundridge Park and West Kent.   Home and away matches have to be played.

I would like you to join me in wishing Sue and the team a successful season. Swing slow ladies!
