Nizels Friendly Result
Saturday 14th May and it's our friendly match against Nizels at Nizels. It was a cold morning and the coffee and bacon and sausage rolls certainly set us off. The course was in lovely condition and the girls were great fun.
The result was a very fair one - we drew and of course we had to remind Nizels that we remain undefeated in 3 years. After our matches we all had cake and we look forward to welcoming Nizels to West Malling next year.
Thank you to all the team and well played all.

Viv Allen Trophy
On Saturday 4th June we shall be playing the Viv Allen Trophy in memory of a lovely lady who was a cherished member of our Ladies Section.
We hope you will agree that it would be a fitting tribute for us to wear our West Malling tee shirts and jumpers on the day to celebrate the times we shared with her! But of course, only if you have them!
This is prior notice as the draw hasn't been made yet. Once done it will be posted as usual.
Many thanks.

LADY CAPTAIN’S REPORT MAY 2016
When I first started my report I was so happy that the
weather had improved. I was sure summer had arrived last week and it was time
to dig out the summer wardrobe. Alas, it’s only the calendar that has really
started to heat up and is now in full swing.
The ‘friendlies’ are well under way, as are the singles,
ladies pairs and mixed pairs knockouts – good luck to all those taking part.
Last month we had two successful Afternoon Teas at Spadework.
Thanks to Rena for drumming up support and collecting in the money and a big
Thank You to our section for attending this event. We had 21 of us on Saturday 16th
April and 25 of us on Tuesday the 19th.
Spadework is very grateful for all that we are doing. The
idea behind having the Afternoon Tea was for members to visit and see what
there is to offer. The nursery is full
of bedding plants, the farm shop has great local produce including jams,
chutneys and even Chapel Down wines and their hampers are fabulous gifts. The food was excellent in the Café with
homemade cakes and scones. The hospitality
by the staff was warm and friendly – so do pop in and take a look if you are
passing!
This month we have the Quiz Night on Friday 13th hosted
by Jeanette and Bernie and we currently have 12 teams of 6 people signed
up. There is still time to get a team together;
it doesn’t have to be made up of golfing friends or members. I love the double
act with our hosts and it is always a very entertaining evening.
12th May brings our first summer 9 hole stableford
competition. This was specially
requested by our Swinging 60’s section so that we can all have the chance to
complete 9 holes in the summer months too.
Further dates in the calendar for the Thursday 9 hole Stablefords are:
23 June, 21 July, 25 August and 29 September
Active handicap -
Please note that the new CONGU rules put into place in January states that to
keep an active handicap players have to complete 54 holes in one year. Any
combination accepted i.e. – 1 x 18 holes and 4 x 9 holes = 54 holes.
So ladies, if you wanted to play all six 9 hole competitions
(front 9 of the Spitfire only) this is now accepted to keep your active
handicap under CONGU ruling.
Entry to trophy
competitions – However, West Malling
Ladies Section still require 6 cards for entry into any trophy competition and
only 2 nine holes are accepted as part of the six.
If you require any additional information speak to our
Handicap Secretary Jane Woodward.
The Inter-society competition sign-up is displayed – The
ladies section is classed as one society – the sizes of the groups will
determine the format for the winners. So “Come on ladies”, let’s give the men a run
for their money!!!!!
There is also still time to sign up for the Spadework Bank
Holiday Mixed Team Texas Scramble. Due to the popular response this will be a
tee time start – details to follow shortly.
Malcolm and I have had some takers for our ‘2 Captains
Challenge’. The first match is on Friday
13th against Rob and Debbie Satchell. If you fancy a competitive ‘fun’ round of
golf the sign up sheet is on the Captain’s board in the main corridor. There is
availability all through the summer months and we would love to play with as
many members as possible.
Week commencing 23rd May will see a Pink Buggy on
the course! This buggy will be available
for one week only, and all hiring fees will go to Breast Cancer Research. What
a great idea – book early to avoid disappointment.
Vice Captain Gill Newson….. You are a star!! Thank you so much for
negotiating with your boss at F&I Financial Services – such a generous
donation of £250 to Spadework. I am extremely grateful and a very lucky Lady
Captain.
Add this £250 donation together with £240 raised at the mixed
away day at Boughton from competitors purchasing mulligans - makes a total
amount of over £2,500 raised to date!
Lastly, on a personal note, Colin and I would like to thank
you for all your well wishes, support and condolences at this sad time for our
family - Colin’s dad Keith lost his battle against cancer last month. We really do appreciate your kind words.
So - Happy Golfing Ladies – Enjoy!!!

Competition Rules
In order to avoid any disputes with ongoing competitions and
to remain within the allotted time for completion of matches, please try to be
as flexible as possible both with dates and being in contact with your drawn
playing partner(s) whether your name(s) appears above or below on the sheet.
A reminder of the rule which can result in disqualification
for both parties is as follows:
RULES FOR ALL
MATCHPLAY COMPETITIONS
RESPONSIBILITY OF
COMPETITORS:-
It is the responsibility of both players to ensure that the
result of matches is obtained within the time limit for any round of a
competition.
If a match cannot be arranged, a result may be achieved by a
method acceptable to both parties e.g. by conceding, by competing on the
putting green, toss of a coin etc.
Failure to achieve a result will mean that both sides will be disqualified.

Mixed Away Day Report - Boughton May 2nd
On a lovely
Bank Holiday Monday, 48 people from West Malling Golf club went to play
Boughton in a FUN competition. No twists
and turns normal handicap and off we went,
goody bags in hand - thank you to Lisa for providing these, everyone bought a mulligan, although some forgot
to use it and NO there were no refunds, ha ha.
The scores
were really good:
1st Norman
Kane and Elaine Katter with a terrific score of 45 points - well played
2nd Peter
and Sara Burbridge with a really good 43 points
3rd Colin
and Lisa Kiddie with 39 points on count back
The nearest
the pins were won by Peter Burbridge and Sara Burbridge.
The food
and service I think we all agreed was fantastic and this really is such a
lovely day out and good value. Biggest thanks to Lydia for securing this for
us.
As if
winning 2nd prize and both nearest the pins wasn't enough we then awarded the
Kip Pullin Trophy that was won by Peter and Sara. It’s OK they brought their big car - well
done to both of you and also well done to John and Caroline Harrison on coming
second.
We then
gave Steve McIntosh his winnings from Lisa’s Masters charity sweepstake.
Lisa raised
£240 for her charity from the mulligans so thank you everyone.

Friendlies Reports
Our first
friendly this year was played at West Malling against Westerham Ladies. Sue
Stickland very kindly captained our team and on they went. The score was 2 - 2
and apparently this was a very fair score. The ladies were lovely as was the
tea. Well done girls.
Our second
friendly was away to Tudor Park, and although the weather was good it was a
little chilly. This team was captained by Rena and a big thank you to Jean
Alback for stepping in at the last minute. Unfortunately we lost this match and
the score was 3 -1.
Our third
friendly was a home game to Red Libbetts. Lisa captained this and it was a lovely sunny
day. Unfortunately one of our team forgot that she was playing so Lisa had to
play on her own. Although she dug deep and tried her best, she lost her game
but a huge well done to her, it is not easy having 2 against 1. The final score
was 3-1 to West Malling, so well done Girls.
