Changes to Medal competition on 4th and 8th August

Ladies, we are meant to be having a medal competition on Tuesday the 4th and Saturday 8th August on the Hurricane course. Unfortunately the course is being hollow tined on the Monday. Normally we would have swapped courses but Spitfire is already very booked. As life is very unpredictable at the moment and we want everyone to have as many opportunities to complete cards as possible, we have decided that we will now make it a stableford competition. We realize this is not ideal but for those who choose to enter it will be the same for everyone. Apologies ladies, but we are trying to make the most of very bizarre times.

Ladt Captains report

I would like to thank all the ladies that entered the 2 day championship & handicap cup competition, you are all winners and well done to you all.
The winner of the championship cup is Jill Gambling who will go on to represent West Malling in the champion of champions for Kent. The winner of the handicap cup is Gill Newson, my congratulations to you both
It has been a very difficult time since Covid 19 raised its ugly head and obviously has caused lots of disruption for our ladies golfing. The committee and I are trying to arrange more competitions so please keep checking the blog and the West Malling web site and IG for updates.
Please could I remind you to sign up with the new IG system as this will keep you in the loop and help you book tee times and competitions.
We have had a number of new ladies and also juniors that have joined the club and would like to meet other ladies, so a Meet & Greet is being arranged over 2 afternoons,  the 1st will be on Sunday 16th August at 2pm and the 2nd on Thursday 20th August also at 2pm we will meet for refreshments, introduce ourselves and discuss the running of the  ladies section and help with any questions that may need to be clarified and hopefully play a few holes of golf with our new members.

Well ladies let’s enjoy the rest of the summer, happy and safe golfing.

The draw will remain exactly the same over both days. If you do wish to withdraw please contact me on the number below as soon as possible as we will have to change it if a player is left on their own for day two.

You will need to complete the card for the person that you are marking for, to ensure as few people as possible touch the cards. Please make sure that you fill in all the details clearly, including; the competition, date and time, both players names and the handicaps. At the end of the round you need to verbally confirm the number of shots on each hole with the player and then sign as marker and print the players name clearly in the box they would normally sign.  Once this is completed make sure the player sees the card before posting it in the competition box outside the Pro shop. It is the responsibility of both the marker and the player to make sure this process is followed.

Just to remind everyone that this year the cards will not be entered until later in the week, so in the event of a draw we will not be having a playoff, the winner for both competitions will be decided on count back.

Good luck ladies, play well and enjoy.

Ladies away day

Good morning ladies I am sorry to inform you that the Lady Captains away day at Westerham on the 25th August has had to be cancelled this year. I have been in touch with the event organiser at Westerham whom has informed me that though they can accept non-members onto the course they are unable to offer facilities of food other than a take away sandwich or accommodate more than a group of 6 at any one time. As this is a social event on our calendar I believe it would be best to take the advice of the events organiser and defer this until 2021.

Stableford and Medals

Ladies the following dates will shortly be added to the diary;

Tuesday 4th and Saturday 8th August Medal Hurricane

Thursday 13th August 9 hole Spitfire

Tuesday 18th and Saturday 22nd August Stableford Hurricane

Thursday 27th August 9 hole Spitfire

These will all require online sign up which the office can assist you with. They remain casual entry, please see the previous post regarding safe entry of cards.
Club Championship

The Club Championship is going ahead, it will be on Saturday 25th July and Sunday 26th July.

The ladies will play the Spitfire Course on Saturday and the Hurricane Course on Sunday. We will play in three balls, which will be drawn in handicap order and ladies will remain in the same groups over both days.  The cards will be placed in the box outside the Pro Shop after each round and the results will be announced later in the week.

These measures have been brought in to try and make the competition as safe as possible. It means that there will be no need to arrive too long before your tee time and you can leave straight after if you wish. The management are keen that people do not congregate outside the club in large numbers as there will still be a one metre rule and there will be limited numbers allowed in the bar area at any one time.

We would like to thank the management for all their work to try and ensure that competitions go ahead whilst keeping everyone as safe as possible.

The format will remain the same this year with two competitions running in parallel; The Club Champion will be the lady with the lowest gross score across both days and the Handicap Cup will go to the lady with the lowest net score across both days. The sign up will be online.

Day 1:             SAT 25 July (Spitfire). Seeded tee times
Day 2:             SUN 26 July (Hurricane). Same draw
TEES:              RED – OFF THE BLOCKS
FORMAT:        Medal
COST:             £5 which is for both days.

Good luck ladies, please do not hesitate to text or call me if you have any questions on 07793 653381

Lady Captains report

Lady Captains July update

Hi everyone I hope you are all keeping well and enjoying your golf. It was on the 18th May that the golf club reopened with restrictions and social distancing but I am sure everyone is enjoying being back on the course. From the 4th July social distancing will be down to 1 metre apart though we should all be taking care.
Management have now installed the safer flag system on the greens, though the rakes are still not in the sand bunkers a local rule has been introduced ‘Pick and Place within 6 inches’ in the bunkers due to uneven surface where e club or foot prints are indented in the sand.

We have now been given the green light to resume competitions, these will now have to be signed up online. Debbie Satchell our competition Secretary has already put this on the blog on how the system will work. This will reduce the handling of the cards, please be patient with this as there will be delays on the scores being entered on the system.

The committee and I have agreed that only 3 cards for 2020 will be needed to maintain your handicap for club competitions in 2021.

The club diary on the West Malling site is still incorrect as all the competitions were cancelled due to Covid-19 and only competitions that are listed on the ladies blog will go live ready to sign up.
We hope in August to introduce more competitions including a 9 hole Stableford on the Spitfire, and hopefully by September we will nearly back on track with the calendar. I am sure we are all looking forward to some normality within our lives and what better way than hitting a ball down the fairway.

Sur Stickland had a hole in one on the Hurricane course and due to the restrictions she kindly donated a cheque for the charity. Thank you Sue and well done 👍

Please keep checking the ladies blog for upcoming competitions and if you have any problems please get in touch with a committee member or myself  (phone 07930422872) or on girlie golf app.

Keep safe everyone and see you on the golf course

Ladies Stablefords and Medals

Following discussions with the management, we are resuming the Stableford and Medal competitions. We will start them initially with a Stableford on the Spitfire on Tuesday 14th and Saturday 18th of July.  All signing up will need to be done online and the fee will be taken straight from your Gold Card. The office will be able to do this for you if necessary. We will confirm the next dates as soon as possible.

We are making some adjustments to the process of entering the cards to ensure everyone’s safety.  As a marker you will need to complete the players card yourself. Please do this as clearly as possible, making sure their name, the competition entered, the date and their handicap are all clear.

Please enter the scores as usual keeping these as clear as possible. On completion of the round, the player and the marker need to verbally confirm the number of shots taken on each hole, then the marker needs to sign the card and clearly print the players name in the signature box the player would usually sign.

Then if at all possible take a photograph of the card, making sure that the whole card is visible, this needs to be sent to the Handicap Secretary, Jean Alback on 07805 261874.
Once this is done the card must be placed in the ladies box outside the Pro Shop. There may be some delay in entering the cards if no photograph is sent of some cards, or if some of the photographs do not clearly show all the information.

We appreciate that this complicates the process, but it ensures that only the marker needs to handle the card for at least 48 hours, so there will be a delay in the results being confirmed if not all the markers submit photographs of clearly marked cards. The process will be regularly reviewed with safety being paramount.

As there have been so few opportunities to submit cards this year the committee has agreed that ladies only need to submit three cards this year in order to qualify for all competitions next year. If this is not possible then ladies can write to the Ladies Committee explaining the reasons and they will consider the possibility of reducing this further, as long as the individual has a current handicap before entering any competition.

Please make sure you are familiar with the provisional rules provided by England Golf, especially regarding bunkers and the flag beforehand in order to keep yourselves and others safe whilst playing.

We hope you all enjoy the opportunity to start playing competitively again.

If you have any queries or concerns please call Debbie Satchell on 07793 653381.
