I will be putting these into the ladies changing room where you can donate money in exchange for any items, I will put a list up where you can pledge your donation.
Please do not leave money in the changing room but either put this in an envelope and leave at reception or hand the amount to member of the committee. Every little helps.

LADY CAPTAINS UPDATE – August/September

Hi Ladies,

I do hope you are all keeping safe and well. Golf is now in full swing and we have caught up with most of the competitions due to so many being postponed earlier in the year.

We had a very successful FUN lady captain’s day which was enjoyed by those that attended, unfortunately I was relegated to driving around in a buggy serving refreshments. My thanks go to Debbie Satchell and Kathy Smith who manned the halfway house.

The ladies open was arranged by Judith (Vice Captain) this year and though we had reduced entries it was agreed it had been a successful event. The format was changed this year, but all teams had a good day. We were very lucky that the Covid restrictions were changed in time to allow a sit down meal which everyone enjoyed and a little normality returned. I would like to thank all the ladies that gave up their time to help on the day, without you it would not have run smoothly.

We have been lucky to have been able to play some of the friendly matches this year home and away so if you want to join in these please keep checking the IG as this is where you can sign up for these. It’s a great way to play other courses and meet new ladies.

I chose Westerham Golf Club for My Captains away day and what a fabulous day this was, once again I decided to make it a 3 ball team FUN event. We all enjoyed the day, the course was in brilliant condition, the sun shone, and the hospitality of the Staff and pro shop was 2nd to none. A special day and long awaited for us all.

The belated Pegasus (Mens) friendly was played on Saturday 28th August and though the ladies put up a good fight we lost, but it was a very close game. Thank you, Bob, for an excellent day. I have stressed the fact that he is only looking after the shield for one year!!!!

The mixed away day was played at Boughton Golf Club, another event that had been postponed. The weather was a little miserable but did not stop the pairs enjoying the day, there were some brilliant scores (made better by Mulligans) the course was in good condition and the food was excellent. Thank you, Lydia, for making the arrangements.

On the 5th & 6th September we had our long-awaited overnighter at Old Thorns Golf Club, all the ladies took a Covid test before arriving at the venue to safe guard their room mates. The weather was hot, hot, hot, the course was outstanding though demanding, all in all a great weekend. Thank you, Diana for arranging this.

We have the Autumn meeting on Tuesday the 21st September and for the first time since 2019 we will be able to celebrate with a sit down meal altogether. I think everyone is looking forward to some normality. A change of clothes is not essential for this day.

On Sunday the 3rd of October there is a Texas Scramble with teams of 4 at £10 pp this includes coffee and bacon roll before the start of play and a raffle for the Captains Charity.

I am pleased to also announce that Jeannette has agreed to be our Quiz master on Friday the 8th October, this will include sausage and chips at a cost of £8.50 pp on tables of 6 (max) So come on let’s get buying those tickets for a fun evening.

I so look forward to seeing you all soon,

Carol Lady Captain

Old Thorns

Ladies we have received the following information from the hotel about the overnight stay.

It's just a couple of days until we welcome you to Old Thorns. Please find below some useful information about the resort and some top tips for making the most of your stay.

See you very soon!

Team Old Thorns

Room Check-in Time: 3pm
Room Check-out Time: 11am

Current regulations

It is great news that restrictions have eased, but with high case numbers in the country, and many of our guests and staff still awaiting their full vaccinations, we would greatly appreciate you following the safety measures we have in place.

Face Coverings

We would appreciate it if you could continue to wear a face covering when moving around inside our resort, if having a spa treatment or when in confined spaces such as our Pro Shop. You may remove your mask in your room/apartment, when seated at a table in our bar/dining outlets and when in the gym or pool area. If you choose not to wear a mask, then please keep a safe distance from other guests and staff members.

Check-in

At the entrance to each outlet you'll find an NHS QR code which you can scan with your mobile device. This is no longer mandatory, but will be in place for those wishing to use it. Old Thorns does not store or have access to this data; it goes directly to the NHS Test & Trace scheme. We recommend downloading the app prior to arrival if you do not already have it installed.

Social distancing

There are no limits on the number of people that may be together indoors or outdoors, but we do recommend keeping socially distanced from those that are not in your party where possible. Please be respectful and considerate towards other guests and staff, as everyone will have different precautionary measures that they are following to help them feel safe.

Please note that it remains a legal requirement to self isolate should you contract Covid-19, be told to self-isolate by NHS Test & Trace or if you have returned from a country in the last 14 days that requires you to quarantine or self-isolate. If any of these circumstances applies to you, then you should not come to Old Thorns for any reason. Please contact our reservations team who can manage your booking: reservations@oldthorns.com

Pre-book pool and gym

We are currently operating a booking system for our pool and gym facilities.

We encourage guests to use their rooms to change and arrive swim/gym ready. However, our changing facilities are available, should they be required.

If you would like to pre-book your session before arrival, booking opens 48 hours in advance. You may book a session from midday on your arrival day and up until 11am on your day of departure.

It is not a requirement to book your facility use before arrival, but we do recommend it. Booking is on a first come, first served basis. You are also welcome to book a session in either facility at any point during your stay, by speaking to our Health Club reception desk, or calling the Health Club from your in-room phone. Spa facilities such as the sauna, steam room and jacuzzi are accessible via the pool and included in your pool session.

Please note that use of the facilities is subject to availability and there is no guarantee of their use. No reimbursement will be provided for facilities being fully booked. If you are a spa package guest, your facility sessions will be booked by the spa team and you should contact them directly if you wish to clarify your booking times.

Newlife the Charity for Disabled Children - Feedback from the charity

 Ladies,

Diana has received the following details from the charity that she and Lew Evans chose to support during their Captains Year. I am sure you will agree that the money was well spent and has clearly changed the families lives for the better.  The photographs referred to are shown in the changing room.

Dear Diana,

I hope that you had a wonderful weekend.

Please find attached details of the children that have benefited from your fundraising and year as Ladies Captain.

We are able to share 4 stories with photographs of some of the children as their families have given permission. The other children are not mentioned personally; however you can see by the records the number of local children that you have helped.

Thanks again on behalf of all the 11 families for what you have achieved as it has made a fantastic difference.

Kindest Regards,

Paul

15999 – buggy

Jessica, aged 8, Jessica has low functioning autism and requires supervision at all times to maintain her safety. She has no

awareness of danger. Her behaviour fluctuates on a day to day basis.

We hope to be able to receive a new disability push chair for Jessica. This will enable us to ensure her safety and give us the opportunity to enjoy more family days out. I believe this will boost our mental health as a whole family.

16006 – car seat – no detail

16016 – car seat

Harriet, aged 9, scoliosis with Global Developmental delay, non walking, non-verbal, very limited understanding, poor muscle control uses hoist at school due to height and weight.

Harriet able to escape from her standard car seat making journeys dangerous for both Harriet and her family who are at their wits end.

16022 – accessories

16050 – buggy – no details

15520 – buggy

Katie, aged 7, Katie is non verbal autistic and has hypermobility in her joints.

She is too big for her pram at the moment but we don't have any other option as on a good day which is rare she will walk maximum 200 yards. most days she won't get out and walk at all. Days out are very difficult and cannot cope without a pram / stroller, as she is too heavy to carry now and also with her

additional needs she always has to have certain foods and nappies etc with us.

15786 – seating – no details

16109 – buggy – no details

16110 car seat

Jack, aged 6, has complex epilepsy and a rare tumour that has led to speech and communication difficulties. Jack also has a lack of understanding and it can become very stressful for him when trying to get him in and out of his car seat and because of this his family only go out in the car for essential journeys.

16393 – buggy – no details
