Lady Captains Report

June 2023
The weather has been glorious with many days of sunshine and blue skies. It has been wonderful weather for golf and our courses are in excellent condition.
The Captain's Charity Day was very successful raising a subsyantialamoumt for Bowel Cancer thanks to the generosity of the members. My thanks go Rob and Debbie Satchel for all their hard work before, on the day and afterwards. I would also like to thank Penny Rowland, Rena Jones and Denise Cooper for their help and support. Julie for sorting out a golf problem. There were many others who contributed to make the day a success with help, raffle prizes and support, so my thanks go to everyone.
There have been external competitions this month  with some great scores to take players through to the next stages. We wish all our ladies good luck when they play.
Congratulations to all the Pearson Team and Rena Jones for reaching the Kent Finals Day at Sittingbourne. Although we lost in the morning Semi Final to Nizels the team had a great day, and our best result for many years. Good luck next year!

Daily Mail Foursomes, urgent response required

Ladies

I have been contacted by the Daily Mail regarding The Women’s Daily Mail Foursomes (this is a Foursomes competition which means that ladies will play alternate shots, alternating tee shots). It would seem that despite not holding a qualifying round we are able to enter a pair for the knockout rounds this year.

We have been drawn with home advantage against Wrotham Heath for the first round. Unfortunately the pair of ladies who will represent West Malling will have to make contact with Wrotham Heath on or before Friday 11th February in order to retain home advantage and the match will have to be played by Sunday 20th March 2022.

This of course means that we cannot organise any kind of qualifying game in time decide who will represent West Malling. Therefore we are going to ask any pair of ladies who would like to take this opportunity to contact me by text on 07793 653381 by 14.00 hours on Tuesday 8th February at the latest and a pair will be drawn at the club on Tuesday afternoon to go forward. The final this year will be held  between 2nd-4th October 2022 at Marriott St Pierre, Chepstow so please only put yourselves forward if you can make both the initial deadline and this date as once a pair is entered there cannot be any substitutions.

Whilst this is not an ideal situation, we would like a pair from West Malling to have this opportunity so please put yourselves forward if you would like to take part. I will give the pair who are picked all the information required by Tuesday evening.

Prostate Cancer Charity

Good evening ladies, on Saturday 29th January at 3 o’clock Bill and I will be presenting the cheque of £16,441.57 to the Prostate Cancer Support Association Kent. It would be lovely to see as many ladies there as possible as without your support we would never have been able to raise these monies. I believe that photos will be taken, if possible could you wear WM purple jumpers. Looking forward to seeing you.

Helen Dingle

Sadly, our friend and a long term member Helen Dingle has died this week.Helen was a delightful lady, gentle, kind and friendly. We all have good memories and stories to share. She had been unwell for sometime and in care near Gravesend.I will put the date and time of her funeral on the blog as soon as possible incase you wish to attend.
Our sympathies go to her family and other friends at this sad time.

Sunday, 2 January 2022

Good evening ladies and a very happy New Year to you all.

I just wanted to ensure that you are aware that online signup is now activated and there are quite a few competitions that you can enter by yourself, as a pair or even mixed during the course of the year . As long as you have an active handicap and a CDH number you will be eligible -can I encourage you to have a look and have a go !

It’s a great way to play new courses at discounted rates and meet new people.

The three feathers competition is always popular and this goes into various categories relevant to your handicap.
It would be really nice if the West Malling ladies could really get behind these competitions as there are particular clubs in Kent that seem to dominate (not that I’m competitive ) and we are all very capable of winning this it’s how you play on the day.

Go get em ladies !
Warm regards
