Friendly update – The results – 2 June 2014

Nizels Friendly - 17 May - The result
A very hot day sticky day and FA Cup final day at that! The team were brave taking on a strong Nizels team.  We lost 2½ - 1½. Reviews of the course and the new venue were amazing and we got a very warm welcome. Some of the Nizels ladies will be joining the West Malling Open in August thanks to the sales skills of everyone who took part.
Coincidently the room where we tucked into our after match jacket potatoes was decorated in our team colours – so they certainly knew how to impress us! We look forward to next year when we hope to show off our course and give the ladies an equally warm welcome. Thanks go to everyone who took part.
Weald of Kent - 28 May – A great home win!
The rain did not stop play given that it rained solidly for 2 days before.  Shirley led the team to victory in a convincing win 3½ - ½.
Tea afterwards was complimented on and I have made sure that the office / kitchen know that it was very much enjoyed by everyone. Thanks go to everyone who took part and for Shirley for captaining the team on the day.

Mixed Yard of String Results

The most popular competition of the year took place today-The Yard of String. This is always a great competition and great fun. It was a lovely sunny day and after a few changes to the order of play, we were off. You could hear the laughter all around the course.
Great scores were achieved, but the winners with a score of 47 were Peter and Sara Burbridge, 2nd Lee and Georgina Venus with a score of 46 and 3rd David Leadbetter and Carol Eldridge with 45pts.
Thank you Julie for your help and  to everyone for making this such a good day.
Next mixed is the Mixed Foursomes Flag – 13th July.

Thanks
Gill

LADY CAPTAINS DAY SUNDAY 8TH JUNE 2014.

Hi Ladies many thanks for all those that have signed up so far, if you haven't closing date is Wednesday of this week. I will then be finalising the draw. This will be displayed  at the club and published on the blog. We have been granted a "Half Shotgun " start  at 9.00, which means we will be teeing off on holes 11 through to 18 and the 1st. This enables the course to be opened after we have all gone through. Please arrive in plenty of time to sign in and get to your Tee. I hope this clarifies any misunderstanding. The Hog Roast will commence at 14.00. If anyone would like to purchase extra tickets for family members please contact the office ASAP.   Many Thanks Jane.

Bradley Cook Away Win

Firstly, thank you for all the kind messages of support for the team.
The Bradley Cook Team had a great away win at Redlibbets yesterday.  We missed the mixed competition but it was worth it! Commiserations to Lindsay and Jane, but wins for Sue, Lydia and Helen see us through the group stages.
We won't know until the final match is played whether we are in the cup or the plate.  If Mid Kent beat Redlibbets we will be in the plate.  If Redlibbets win we will be in the cup.
Either way it is a great achievement - well done everyone who has played so far!

Mixed Away Day Report

It was Bank Holiday Monday, so of course it was going to rain. Our Mixed away day was at Austin Lodge and even though it was wet, this didn’t dampen our spirits.
16 couples took part and we all climbed our way around this challenging course.
There were some great scores on the day but the winners with a brilliant 40 points were Malcolm Roberts and Sue Stickland, 2ndPeter and Sara Burbridge with 39 points and 3rd Joe and Julie Harris with 38 points.
Nearest the pins were won by Trevor Venis and Julie Harris and Longest drives were Lydia Doherty and Lee Venus.
Mulligans were sold on the day in aid of Janes chosen charity –Breast Cancer. After the price of the balls were taken out we made a very respectable £120.00.
A very big THANK YOU to Lydia and Julie for all their help, and of course a huge thank you to Robert and Yvonne Gormley for the sweets in our goodie bags.
Lastly thank you to everyone who came and supported this day, it was brilliant.

Take care

IMPORTANT DATE CHANGE.
Joe Harris has very kindly agreed to run a fun charity day to boost my funds this year. If you haven't been to one of Joe's events before you truly don't want to miss it.
The idea is that we will have a shotgun start with our Ladies team taking on Joe's raiders. Then a carvery Sunday lunch and then the fun begins in the afternoon. In order for this to happen we have to change some dates around. Therefore Joe's charity day will take place on Sunday the 14th of September and the Mixed friendship cup will now take place on Sunday the 31st August. Please put these dates in your calendar.
LADIES v MERLINS MATCH. SATURDAY 14TH JUNE.

If you would like to play in the above fun match please sign up in the Ladies changing rooms. More details to follow.
LADIES YOUR CAPTAIN NEEDS YOU.

Just a reminder to all you Ladies that haven't signed up for Lady Captains Day. Please sign up with the office. The intension is that we will play the Hurricane and the Men play the Spitfire with a shotgun start. How ever if we don't get enough ladies to play. The club won't allow us a shotgun. So its up to you. Please spread the word and encourage as many ladies to take part. It will be a fun day.

Bradley Cook Result

Redlibbetts came to West Malling on Sunday.  We excelled on our own course again winning 3-2.  Sue & Jane met two youngsters and both lost - although Jane took it down the 20th.  Helen had a walkover due to an injured opponent who retired half way round but the 10-8 score gives us valuable points.  Lydia won 5&4 - the dreaded 14th seeing off another visitor! and Donna held off a late charge to win 2&1.
Redlibbetts away next week - a win will see us guaranteed a place in the next round (will it be the plate? or the cup?)
Well done every one!!!!!

Friendly Report - May 2014

The season has kicked off and we have already played two away games....

Tudor Park - team victorious!
Sue Stickland led the team out and we were victors at Tudor Park by 3&1 despite the weather being wet and Sue hurt her ankle but soldiered on to ensure a team win. Food was delicious I have been told.
Thanks and congratulations go to the team.

Nizels - a marginal defeat!
At Nizels the team battled hard but unfortunately lost the overall match by 2 and a half & 1 and a half.
It was a hot sticky day and we were treated to great company at this new fixture and  yummy food afterwards. Thanks go to the team and we look forward to welcoming the Nizel ladies to West Malling in 2015.

Bradley Cook Result

Yesterday we played Mid Kent away.  They were very strong on their own course and we lost 5-0.  However, we shouldn't lose sight of the fact that we beat them at home.  We have another home match next week v Redlibbets and I am sure the team will bounce back from this defeat and show Redlibbets how brilliant we are on our own course!

LADY CAPTAINS DAY.

There seems to be some confusion over the format for Lady Captains day. As in previous years this is an individual event. This year being played on the Hurricane course shotgun start, men playing on the Spitfire.. The cost is £10 per person, tickets to be purchased from the office. This entry includes entrance fee and a hog roast after the golf. In order for us to have a shotgun we need to sell as many tickets as possible so please Ladies purchase yours ASAP. Various activities have been arranged for after the golf so friends and families are most welcome to join in the fun. Please watch the blog for more details .

Past Lady Captains
Golf & Tea - 24 June 2014

In order to recognise the ‘forgotten ones’ who provided the ladies section with traditions that have since been adopted and devoted their time to make the section what it is today, Jane would like to invite all past lady captains’ for a game of golf followed by tea.  It will be a small but exclusive gathering.
Since the diary is chocker we have chosen Tuesday 24 June in the hope that the sun will shine and that as many people can join in as possible.  The sign up sheet will be posted on the notice board can you tick against your name if you are able to join in.
To add a different dimension and to include others that would like to join the event we invite other ladies to sign up to caddie on the day and join the celebration.
Jane will be sponsoring this and we hope it can become an annual event that we add to the golfing calendar going forward.                                 Thanks  g J
