LADY CAPTAINS REPORT
JANUARY 2014.
Well I can’t
believe it’s been well over a year since Debbie stood up at the AGM and announced
me as being her Vice-Captain. Where has the time gone!!! What a fantastic year
Debbie has had and I only hope I can carry on the great work. Debbie has worked
tirelessly for the good and benefit of the Ladies section meeting every
challenge head on. With such a positive attitude and a continued smile on her
face. I have to say it’s been a pleasure to have been her Vice.
As you all
know the Lady Captain starts her term of office at the AGM and this year that
fell on the 1st December. After a very successful AGM we proceeded
to compete in a 12 hole Texas scramble. This event was well supported and from
the comments afterwards thoroughly enjoyed. I would like to thank Judith for
her support in organising this event.
The first event
on the calendar for the new Captain is the Ladies Christmas lunch which followed
very quickly after the AGM. We started off with the 12 hole stableford
competition. There were some amazing scores over the 12 holes and the winner
with 25pts was Anne Jenner on c/b from Julie Harris with Caroline Harrison in
third with 24pts. Well done Anne. Again expertly organised by Judith many
thanks again. 48 Ladies sat down to a Christmas carvery lunch complete with all
the trimmings and the obligatory Christmas cracker. A good time was had by all. Many thanks to
Kate and her team for providing the food and service on the day.
Also a big
thank you to Peggy baker who kindly donated the superb table decorations they
really did add a splash of colour to the proceedings. These were presented to
the Ladies with birthdays close to the Christmas diner.
This brings
us too New year’s day when officially the Captains have their Drive in. It was
great to see such support from friends and family on the day. As we braved the
weather and went outside 11 previous ladies captains were present and the
obligatory photos were taken before the drive in. Everything was calm until I
teed the ball up and tried to grip the club. What had happened to my hands I
couldn’t stop them from shaken. At least
my drive was straight down the middle at 138 yards. Lee Venus was the lucky
winner of a very nice bottle of Moet.
Back inside into the dry for the speeches. I was able to announce my
Charities for the year. Which are the “Mid Kent Breast Cancer Research Appeal”
and a percentage to “Help for Heroes”. It’s also an opportunity to present my
Vice-Captain for the year and I am delighted to announce that Georgina Venus
has agreed to take up this role, and has already come up with some challenges
for fund raising. So watch out for information on the notice boards.
I would like
to take a moment to thanks everyone who has so generously supported me so far. For
their time, advice and donations. And especially the unsung heroes on the
committee who work tirelessly behind the scenes.
Here’s to a
FUN golfing 2014.
Jane.
