Well what a
difference in the weather as I write this report the sun is shining and no rain
forecast. Golf now is beginning to pick up and the courses starting to dry out.
Even getting a bit of roll on the ball. The Valentine fun comp as mentioned in
the last report was eventually played a week later and many thanks to everyone
who took part. I managed to raise £72 for my charity. The Cecil Leitch 5 club
was played over the Tuesday and Saturday with out any delays and 35 ladies took
part. Many thanks to all the Ladies that supported this competition . The
winner of this event goes thought to the final later on in the year and
represents the club. This year the final is at Parkwood and for the second year
running the winner is Debbie Conder. Debbie won with 32pts on count back from
Helen Venis and Leslie Shott.
This year my
Vice captain Georgina has set me a series of challenges (please see the notice
board for details) The first challenge was to climb the O2 dome and yesterday
(Sunday 9th march) I along with 8 other ladies (and Lee Venus) set
out to complete this task. After playing 18 holes of golf we all set of for
Greenwich. Georgina had organised the weather and the sun was shining. We had
our obligatory health and safety briefing and proceeded to harness up in
readiness. By this stage there were a few worried faces. Joe our guide set us
on our way and before we knew it we had completed the ascent. What amazing
views from the top with the sun just setting over the London Skyline. There
were a lot of photo’s being taken and we hope to have some on the blog very
soon. The decent was a little more nerve wracking but we all got down in one
piece. My BIG thanks to Georgina for organising this challenge and to the other
Ladies a BIG well done for completing it. I have to single out two ladies that
overcame there fear of heights in order to support me on the day. To Caroline
and Gill you were truly awesome. Very well done to you both, we are all so
proud of you. Bring on the next challenge. Just before we completed this
challenge we sent round the charity box at the golf club and I have to say the
men were most generous in their donations. Many thanks guys. I will let you
know how much money we raised.
Looking
ahead in March we have the first of two Ladies v Vet matches. Come on Ladies we
need to defend our title, also at the end of the month the Coronation 4 some’s.
We have our first mixed comp early in April. This replaces the Douglas Bader
charity event that this year is not being staged. Please sign up if you would
like to take part. We can even find you a man!!
We are
continually adding to the blog and more and more information is available on
it. Please if you haven’t been able to access this yet, speak with a member of
the committee. The information boards will still be updated as normal.
Let’s hope
the sun continues to shine and we can start to enjoy and play some great golf.
Best Wishes Jane.
Lady Captain
2014.
