Past lady captains challenge - 24 June
The sun was kind, the caddies were poised and the day was full of fun, twists and much laughter.
Caddies putted out on the par 5's and took the tee shots on the par 3's.
14 of our past lady captains turned out to play for this fun get together. It was to celebrate and thank them for their contribution to the ladies section and hopefully it will become a fixture in our playing calendar.
Prizes were awarded to 1st and 2nd. Gill Harman won with 36 pts and Eileen Tuson was 2nd with 35 pts.
Nearest the pin went to Carol Eldridge who caddied for Debbie Conder but was actually taking the shot for Eileen T - confused so was everyone else!
Thanks go to Jane for sponsoring this event.
And so with sweets, pimms, gin and tonics on the course contributing to the scoring (or not! ) 25 ladies enjoyed tea and cake in the club house.
A big thank you goes to the caddies for giving up a day of playing a full round. To our past captains thank you ! and Roll on next year.

MID-SEASON PAIRS CHALLENGE.
The mid-season pairs
challenge competition took place last Sunday and what a great day it turned out
to be. The weather had been booked and 12 very bubbly teams mostly in matching
team colours turned up to take on the challenge. This year we played the
Hurricane course and only one score was needed on the first eight holes, then
the problems started. Holes nine to twelve the tricky par 5’s both scores
required. Then relief back to one score for the rest of the round. What a great
format. l would like to say a BIG thanks to Pat West for devising and
sponsoring this competition.
I’m delighted this year’s winners on count back
from your Captain and Vice-Captain were Elaine Katter and Toni Twort with 48
points and in 3rd place Helen Cornwell and Gina Wilson with
47points. Well done ladies. Thanks also to Judith for all her hard work in
setting up the competition and to Gill ensuring the day ran smoothly.

Merlins match postponed 14 June
Ladies we have postponed the Merlins match on Saturday as the guys struggled getting a team - they had only 4 pairs available.
We are considering a new date later in the year and will play if our busy calendar permits!!
I tried to speak to everyone yesterday but there were a few ladies who left so hopefully this message reaches them too.
We have agreed to roll up at 9am anyway as it is stableford weekend so those who want to post a card can do so. To add a different dimension we will all do a stableford card (comp or fun) and have 'hidden pairs' which will be drawn at the end in the bar - prizes will be to win an all important bottle of vino!
Hope everyone is ok with this change.

Lady Captains Report
June 2014.
Well its
only been three weeks since the last committee meeting but we seemed to have
packed a lot of golf in. Starting with the Quiz night with a record turn out. My
thanks from all of us go to Bernie and Jeannette for all there time and hard
work running these events. Also thanks go to Julie, Gill and Georgina for
running the raffle and to all those people that donated prizes. A special
thanks to Joe Harris for running a fun heads and tails game which really
boosted the funds. Over £400 was raised
for my charity.
May also saw
another 3 friendly comps being played and again thanks to Georgina and her band
of captains for successfully running these. Please read the blog for all the
updates and team selections.
The annual
external Ping competition has also been played. What a great turnout. Helen
Venis and Jane had the highest score of 42 points on the Tuesday only to be
beaten on count back from the Saturday winners Gill Gambling and Kim Wellman.
Well done and good luck in the next round.
We have had
another two very successful mixed events with a trip away to Austin Lodge on
Bank Holiday Monday. As normal for a bank holiday rain but everyone enjoyed the
day. Big thanks to Gill and Julie for the organisation and running the event on
the day, also to Lydia for booking the venue and to the Gormley’s for kindly providing the goody bags on the
day. Yesterday saw the fun “Yard of
String mixed comp. Another popular event
well done to the winners and thanks again to Gill for all her great efforts.
Gill will cover the results in her report.
Big
congratulations go to Joyce Orpin who has just recently celebrated her 90th
birthday and still playing golf twice a week. She puts us all to shame. A
lovely tea was organised and a great time was had by all. Lovely photo on the
blog thanks Judith.
Looking ahead Debbie Conder our winner from
the Ceclil Leitch 5 club competition will be playing in the final at Parkwood
on the 11th June. Good luck

Friendly update – The results – 2 June 2014
Weald of Kent - 28 May – A great home win!Nizels Friendly - 17 May - The result
A very hot day sticky day and FA Cup final day at that! The team were brave taking on a strong Nizels team. We lost 2½ - 1½. Reviews of the course and the new venue were amazing and we got a very warm welcome. Some of the Nizels ladies will be joining the West Malling Open in August thanks to the sales skills of everyone who took part.
Coincidently the room where we tucked into our after match jacket potatoes was decorated in our team colours – so they certainly knew how to impress us! We look forward to next year when we hope to show off our course and give the ladies an equally warm welcome. Thanks go to everyone who took part.
GeorginaThe rain did not stop play given that it rained solidly for 2 days before. Shirley led the team to victory in a convincing win 3½ - ½.
Tea afterwards was complimented on and I have made sure that the office / kitchen know that it was very much enjoyed by everyone. Thanks go to everyone who took part and for Shirley for captaining the team on the day.

LADY CAPTAINS DAY SUNDAY 8TH JUNE 2014.
Hi Ladies many thanks for all those that have signed up so far, if you haven't closing date is Wednesday of this week. I will then be finalising the draw. This will be displayed at the club and published on the blog. We have been granted a "Half Shotgun " start at 9.00, which means we will be teeing off on holes 11 through to 18 and the 1st. This enables the course to be opened after we have all gone through. Please arrive in plenty of time to sign in and get to your Tee. I hope this clarifies any misunderstanding. The Hog Roast will commence at 14.00. If anyone would like to purchase extra tickets for family members please contact the office ASAP. Many Thanks Jane.
Bradley Cook Away Win
Firstly, thank you for all the kind messages of support for the team.
The Bradley Cook Team had a great away win at Redlibbets yesterday. We missed the mixed competition but it was worth it! Commiserations to Lindsay and Jane, but wins for Sue, Lydia and Helen see us through the group stages.
We won't know until the final match is played whether we are in the cup or the plate. If Mid Kent beat Redlibbets we will be in the plate. If Redlibbets win we will be in the cup.
Either way it is a great achievement - well done everyone who has played so far!

Mixed Away Day Report
It was Bank Holiday Monday, so of course it was going to rain. Our Mixed away day was at Austin Lodge and even though it was wet, this didn’t dampen our spirits.
16 couples took part and we all climbed our way around this challenging course.
There were some great scores on the day but the winners with a brilliant 40 points were Malcolm Roberts and Sue Stickland, 2ndPeter and Sara Burbridge with 39 points and 3rd Joe and Julie Harris with 38 points.
Nearest the pins were won by Trevor Venis and Julie Harris and Longest drives were Lydia Doherty and Lee Venus.
Mulligans were sold on the day in aid of Janes chosen charity –Breast Cancer. After the price of the balls were taken out we made a very respectable £120.00.
A very big THANK YOU to Lydia and Julie for all their help, and of course a huge thank you to Robert and Yvonne Gormley for the sweets in our goodie bags.
Lastly thank you to everyone who came and supported this day, it was brilliant.
Take care
Gill XX
