Lady Captains Report September 2014.

Well August was always going to be a busy month and it certainly was. The first event was the annual Ladies v Pegasus match, and what a fun day was had by all. Plenty of banter and some great golf. Unfortunately the Pegasus lads become the victors this year. But the Ladies certainly put up a solid fight. Just losing out on the last hole in the last match to see the lads finish 5 1/2 matches to 4 1/2. My thanks to Bob Appleby for arranging again, such a brilliant day.

Unfortunately our first mixed competition for August had to be abandoned on the 9th hole due to severe weather. But my thanks go to all those that braved the elements and started to play. Also a huge thanks to everyone that kindly donated there entrance money to my charity. Once everyone had dried off the usual banter continued in the bar, helped by Georgina who very generously bought everyone a drink due to her Hole in One the previous day. Well done Georgina.

The next big event for August was the annual Ladies open our chance to show off the club and entertain all the visiting Ladies. And what a lot we had, again 32 teams descended on West Malling. The weather had been booked and everyone was in place to welcome our visitors. Thanks to our Vice-Captain Georgina every detail had been taken care of. Even down to the time slot in which I had to get chanced for the prize giving. A full report from the day is on the blog, but I would like to mention two Ladies who every year work tirelessly on our behave running the half way hut. Viv and Wendy thank you so much. The Pimms went down very well (Hic).

The Inter society Competition is always a popular event and the Ladies entered with enthusiasm. Even walking off with the 3rd prize. Well done to Georgina, Julie, Sticky and yours truly.

The second mixed for august the friendship cup was played in better weather and the results are on the blog and will be covered in the mixed comp report.

One of the big events for any captain is her away day and this year i choose the Weald of Kent for my competition. 28 Ladies turned up for bacon butties all in good spirits. 18 holes of golf was played and then dinner was served in our own dining room. We had some great scores in and the prizes went to 1st Julie Harris 37 points, 2nd Stella Pitt 36pts and 3rd Carol Eldridge 35 pts. Nearest the pin went to Julie Harris, Longest drive Silver Sue Stickland, Longest drive Bronze Gill Harmen, Nearest the pin in two Helen Venis and Caroline Harrison who was in the hole for her second shot. Also a special prize went to Helen Cornwell and a donated prize of a free golf lesson from Ashley went to Jennie Aldridge. Well done to all the winners.

Even though the weather had been booked one Lady happened to get extremely wet, thanks again to yours truly who just happened to nominate her for the Ice Bucket Challenge. Georgina thought she was going to get away with it, I had other ideas and so after speaking nicely to the barman 8 ice buckets appeared. I have to say what a great sport Georgina was. There is photographic evidence if anyone wants to see it. Many thanks to the Ladies for donation another £33 pounds to my charity.

The other competitions played in August will be covered in the competition reports and the results are already on the blog.

Just a reminder about your stableford and medal cards. We should all be looking to complete the all-important six cards to qualify you to play in next year’s trophy competitions. The competition book is upstairs in the changing rooms for you to check to see if you have met the criteria. Both Lisa Kiddie and myself have access to the handicap system if anyone is not sure how many they have down we can check for you.

Lastly September’s diary is just a full and all the sign-up sheets are in the changing rooms, if anyone hasn’t been able to get to the club and would like to be included in any event please contact anyone from the committee and we can point you to the person in charge. Also I need Ladies to represent the section against the Vets, Thursday 18th September. Always a fun day.  Please ring me or add your name to the list. Many Thanks.

Good Luck with your golf in September.

Best Wishes Jane.
