Lady Captains Report
October 2014.
Well as I
said in the last report September was to be another busy month and it proved
the case. OK so we kicked off with the annual Joe’s v Raiders charity day and
it was to be bigger and better. We decided earlier on in the year to have one
event and make it large. Which is what we did? Joe and Julie organised the
event and everyone that took part really enjoyed the occasion. The ladies team
put in a sterling effort and drew overall on the day 7 and a ½ games each. A
very fitting result. And a staggering amount of £2,274.42 was raised. My
enormous thanks go to Julie and Joe Harris for their continued support of these
charity events, and too everyone that supported us on the day or donated in
their absence.
Next came
the Autumn meeting kindly sponsored by our President Vicky Richardson, who was
able to watch all the groups come up the 18th on the Hurricane. The results on the day altered due to a card
disqualification and the winner with a staggering 44 pts was Carol Eldridge, 2nd
Lydia Doherty 39pts, 3rd Debbie Conder on count back from Rena Jones
with 37pts. With best front nine going to Jenny Aldridge and back nine Stella
Pitt. We all enjoyed a Chilli Jacket potato lunch and had one round of Heads or
Tails which raised another £32 pounds for my charity. Some of the Ladies also
got fined for their misdemeanours.
The second
of the Ladles v vets matched took place and my thanks go to Rena Jones for
Captaining in my absence. Overall result was another win to the Ladies
The annual
Committee cup was played and 8 members of the committee turned out to play.
Great fun was had by all. Judith was going for the double but unfortunately had
to settle for nearest the pin. Julie was champ on the day.
On the same
day we fielded a team to play in a mixed at Westerham and Rena lead out the
Ladies. Again the result went West Mallings way. Well done to all who participated.
The mixed
for September was again well supported even though it clashed with the Ryder
Cup. Many of the teams decided to play early and the best seats were bagged
around the telly. I’m happy to say the result went the Europeans way. For full report
please see the blog. Also 3 people played exceptionally well and all agreed to
put their cards in for handicap cuts. Well done to Sara, Mark and Pete.
Yesterday
Sunday the 5th the Bradley Cooke team travelled to Ashford for the
final of the plate competition. Everyone had played there courtesy matches and
done their homework in readiness for the challenge. And what a challenge it
turned out to be. Chart Hills had really brought out the big guns or should I
say the Kent County schoolgirls. What great young golfers they are and what
amazing golf was played. Despite there highest handicapper being lower than our
lowest we battle bravely. Unfortunately we lost the first 3 matches so the
referee called us in even though the last two games were still live. It was
great to be a part of the final day and we even got to see the Bradley cook
trophy for the first time. A big well done to Helen Venus for captaining the
team this year and getting us the furthest we have ever been before, also all
the team, and not forgetting our caddies that gave up there day to support us.
Heres to next year. Come on team West Malling.
Just a
reminder about the upcoming Quiz on the 17th October. The format
will be the same as before. Please get your tables of six ready and tickets bought.
There will be a raffle so all donations again gratefully received.
Good Luck
with your golf in October.
Best Wishes
Jane.
