Quiz night boosts charity money raised for 2015
A massive thank you goes out to all those who supported the quiz nite on 15 May.
We raised over £300 on the night which boosts the monies raised for the year.
We are already at £2000 through events you have supported so thank you.
Jeanette and Bernie were on fine form yet again funding questions to catch us all out. They really do come prepared and we can't thank them enough for their efforts.
Winners on the night hopefully enjoyed their John Lewis vouchers whilst the runners up had a night or two enjoying their prosecco. The best team name proved difficult to judge but the winners took home the chocolates.
Our fiver raffle ensured Lydia and Eric had extra holiday money and my friend Kalli generous donated hers to the funds raised on the night.
Well done to everyone as these nights continue to be popular and we look forward to organising one in October so plenty of time to study!
Big cheers g

Mixed Away Day Report
It was the last bank holiday in May and time for
the West Malling mixed away day in which 16 couples took part at Boughton Golf
Club. The
weather was lovely and off we went. There was the usual banter, talking whilst
people were teeing off etc, all in good fun of course.
There were 4 couples with 40 points which is amazing but after count back the 1st prize went to Clive and Sadie Millgate, 2nd Lew Evans and Rena Jones and 3rd Jane Woodward and Jill Gambling ....now that's another story!!!
Nearest the Pins went to Caroline Harrison and Andy Martin and Longest Drives went to Sue Stickland and Peter Burbridge.
After golf we all sat down to a lovely meal and the banter continued. All in all a great day out with our friends and over £100 was raised for our charity.
So, thank you to Lydia for arranging a great day out and thank you to you all for supporting our mixed competitions.
The next competition is the Mixed Flag Sunday 12th July and the sheet is up on our board.
Thanks again
Love Gill

20/5 Away to Redlibbets - friendly result
The rain came as we teed off and so we were all out of
sorts on the first hole. It then cleared and stayed away for all but the last
group until 18.
We had a lovely welcome from the Redlibbets ladies and
enjoyed a well earned tea at the end.
The course was in great condition.
The greens were true, the fairways had run and
everyone took the long walk in their stride or at least felt the 14000 steps it
took to get round!
Lisa has organised us well yet again!
Results as follows:
Win Elaine & Georgina 6&5
Loss Carol E & Molly 4&3
Loss Lesley & Anne 5&4
Half Sue & Carol M (sue had to give 15
shots!)
1st friendly loss of season : 2 and half / 1 and
a half - everyone played well on a course you need to know how to
navigate.
Next matches: Thursday 4th June Woodlands
(Home)
Wednesday 10th June Weald of Kent
(Away)
Lisa has posted details.

PEARSON TROPHY 2014/15
Our dreams of winning the trophy again this year are over.
We made it to the quarter final round but came up against a very strong team from Sittingbourne.
We played them at home, losing 3-4 , all the loses very close. Undeterred we went to Sittingbourne last Friday with high hopes, all the ladies played well but we lost 5-2. It was very disappointing for all the team, but we will dust ourselves off and be ready to do battle next year!!!
The following ladies represented West Malling:-
Caroling Harrison, Carol Eldridge, Gina Wilson, Stella Pitt, Lesley Shott, Lisa Kiddie, Diana Scott, Carol Martin, Sue Gofton, Georgina Venus and Julie Harris
Thank you for all your efforts, it was a privilege to be your Captain.
Thank you to all the West Malling ladies who have supported us at home and away, it was much appreciated.
Thank to Judith Parkhurst for all her assistance.
I can't wait for next year, I know you all feel the same.

Lady Captains Report – May 2015
April began with sunshine and the start of our main golfing season
with the first trophy competition of the year being played on the 12th
April. – the Elizabeth Budd Trophy. Thanks go to Julie Harris for her
sponsorship and to the winners on the day as we shared out lots of prizes
including nearest the pins for Division 1 & 2.
This day was hotly followed by our first section wide gathering of
the year at the Spring Meeting. The weather was booked and we were lucky to be
bathed in warm sunshine and items from the spring /summer wardrobe had their
first outing for 2015. We had 40 ladies
play and join which was a fabulous showing. We also had the first 12 hole
competition played by our 70 years young ladies ‘the daffodils’ playing for the Daffodil Trophy. At the Autumn
meeting we look forward to the same again and voted for a name which was won by
Del Byrne. There is a write up on the blog and my thanks go to everyone for making
it a day full of fun and laughter and one which I really enjoyed including the
Bottles and Ball sweep where your true colours came through by you eagerly
wanting a prize even if your number has not come up! You know who you are!!
On Wednesday 15th April I was very sad to hear the news
that Viv Allen lost her battle against cancer which returned late last
year. A first for our section as we had
not lost one of our own before, but our section has united and we will continue
to grieve for some time to come. Our
thoughts and prayers remain with the family and we hope that they take strength
from the support shown by everyone. Donations have been collected and we will
soon pay our respects to Viv by attending her funeral on 8th May.
Our friendly season also began with a win at Westerham, a new
friendly venue in 2015. The results have
been shared on the blog and updates on highlights of the day provided for
everyone to keep up. Thanks go to Lisa for organising the day. We then won at
home to Tudor Park so we look forward to more games during the rest of the
season.
Our Bradley Cook team also began their matches and we will know
soon if we will continue to play for the plate as we have a match at Sundridge
at home to play.
The Daily Mail Foursomes was played and we have our winners who
will represent West Malling in 2016.
Well done to Julie Harris and Gill Newson who won with 36 pts.
The wait is over on who our Pearson Team will play in the next
round. We have home and away matches fixed with Sittingbourne so we wish Rena
and the team well. I am looking forward
to playing.
Thank you is one of the best parts of being Lady Captain and this
month my thanks go to the committee once again for showing me the support and
ensuring that things get done as I know the hard work that goes on.
To Jane for moving us up the 21st century as scores are
now posted as soon as the trophy competitions have been completed so that any
errors can be dealt with on the day – she gets my bottle of the month prize as
we had to work through some of the technical issues with using the cloud and it all worked
smoothly.
A bonus bottle goes to Gill for taking on the extra work of
arranging our bank holiday mixed fun comps without complaint – these have
proved popular days and it is good to keep our members off the streets as we
have friendly competition and lots of banter!
Colin Kiddie sponsored the day in May which really showed that the men
love these days and we even sang him happy birthday!
And so to the fundraising, I am thrilled at where we are so far at
this point in the year both the bike ride (scarily next month) and all the
events that you have supported are really ensuring that the monies are being
raised which takes my breath away. My
biggest thanks go to everyone for showing that the club are givers and support good causes.
In May we have lots planned again which means that my diary is
chocker but I am not complaining as it is nice to play a bit more than usual.
Final preparation is planned for Paris and I will try to get more miles clocked
up before the off. We have more mixed events planned and the popular Men vs the
Ladies – can we win? That is up to us!!
Regards g

BRADLEY COOK MATCH AGAINST SUNDRIDGE PARK
We played our final match today in the round robin against Sundridge Park.
I led us off and was all square at the turn but then trees seemed to attract my ball and I finally lost on the 17th 3 & 1. Debbie was next and put up a good fight but her opponent was on form and she lost 5 & 4. Jane went out next and held her opponent until the 17th also losing 3 & 1. Next came Donna and she put up a valiant fight but it was not to be and she also was defeated. Finally Jill took her opponent to the 17th and lost 3 & 1. The whole team put up a fantastic fight and we definitely had them worried and we did really well to take the matches as far as we did as they were all single figure handicaps. We now have to wait till the end of June to see who we get in the Plate competition.

Mixed May Day Fun - 4th May
18 couples needed something to do on May Day bank holiday so a mixed competition was organised which also helped Colin Kiddie celebrate his birthday. The sun shone which was a bonus and much fun was had by all yet again. Colin even led the singing with happy birthday to me! Thanks go to Gill for drumming up support for the day.
With a ' live' draw a few minutes later than planned the pairs teed off from 10 o'clock. The format for the day was combined stableford so each person was able to complete their own card.
Colin Kiddie sponsored the day and provided prizes from his recent trip to Augusta where he watched the Masters up close whilst the rest of us watched or listened from the comfort of our own home. Big thanks are extended to Colin for his support and sponsorship.
Winners on the day -
Ladies ntp on 7th - Carrie Beech
Men ntp in 18th - Steve Mcintosh
Prizes were awarded for 1st 2nd 3rd and included master 2015 memorabilia.
1st Lee & Georgina Venus with 73 pts

Paying our respects to Viv Allen
Ladies
Arrangements for Friday remain the same as those previously posted.
8th May @ 12 noon
Blue bell hill crematorium
I thank you for letting me know if you are able to attend. Roy is very happy so many of us can be there and we can all pay our respects and be united which will help us all - over 30 ladies are able to make the day. Helen Cornwell has seen Roy, and I confirm that if you wish then he and the family have no problem with us wearing our club jumpers/colours which Viv was so proud of. I will be wearing mine so I leave this to each individual as you feel comfortable.
If possible, can we car share on Friday ? I am sure this is already being arranged but I would ask you to organise where possible as I am sure there could be parking limitations.
Our section has been generous in giving donations to remember our friend Viv.
We will be arranging cheques to be sent to the nominated charities shortly. In excess of £300 has been collected so I will ensure the family have a list of everyone who has donated in a remembrance card which I will send from us all. I know some of the section have done individual donations so I am sure Roy and the family are more than overwhelmed during this sad time.
The florist in West Malling is preparing an IRIS coloured floral spray which will be sent from the WMGC ladies section. The cost of this is £60 and I will agree with the committee this week what will be paid from the ladies funds so I hope you are all in agreement with this arrangement. I waited until we knew what the family had organised so as to fit in.
Finally, I know that you all remain sad but I am very proud of how we have united and are able to support each other. It makes me proud to be a part of our section and be able to be your lady captain. Many of you have asked if I need anything and the answer is no. I just hope we are doing Viv proud.
God bless g

BRADLEY COOK MATCH AGAINST WEST KENT.
We today played our return match against West Kent, and although we lost narrowly 3-2, we are through to the plate competition. Even though we still have to play Sundridge at home we will not continue in the main competition as Sundridge have yet to lose a match.
Fin lost narrowly to her opponent on the 18th, one down. I had a fabulous match and managed to win 3 & 2. Lydia also lost narrowly on the 18th, losing 2 down. Debbie had a very formidable opponent and eventually lost 3 & 2 after hanging on for quite a while. Jane smashed her opponent 7 & 6!! She takes no prisoners.
Lets hope we can continue our winning streak in the Plate.
