Merlin result – 20 September
We forgot to take any pictures on the day but I managed to get a photo of the victorious captain to add a bit of colour to this match report. Our 16 strong ladies team battled against the Merlins golf society team on Sunday 20thSeptember.Unfortunately, we were not victorious on this occasion but good fun was had by all. It was a 6/2 defeat. Well done to our winning ladies and commiserations to our losers. Our opposition knew their team but had issues with timing and running order so it was a little chaotic before we teed off. Luckily our ladies arrived on time and were ready for their matches. Thanks go to my playing partner Caroline who got me a bacon roll ‘to go’ whilst I sorted out what was happening with the Merlins. This was a popular event and a rematch was talked about after the match. So a bit of good news… as we lost we get to set the format of next year’s fixture. There will also be a trophy as Andy the current Merlins Captain has said he will donate. Lisa I am sure will organise Malcolm next year.
Course changes for Medals and Stablefords
Ladies
In the last month we
have had two changes of the nominated course for medals and stablefords.
I know with Tee
booking this can be frustrating but the management team have had to change the
course due to a number of factors and these were last minute and
non-intentional.
The office have
accommodated the changes on both occasions. I apologise if some have been
caught out by these changes but they were unavoidable. We try to
communicate if possible but I realise that one change was missed - I apologise
for this.
A last push for
qualifying cards is underway and I know a number of you have checked with Jane
to see how many cards are outstanding. There are 10 weeks of qualifying comps
set up - 20 opportunities to complete your 6 cards between now and
the end of the year so hopefully there will be no changes and everyone is able
to play and get cards competed.
Happy golfing.

Lady Captains Report – September 2015
After my last report I thought things may get a little quiet but August has been insanely busy-In the best possible way as the events just keep coming thick and fast!
We had another mixed event which was well attended and made a good club atmosphere as ever. Gill and Shirley certainly keep us organised and are doing a great job this year so I am really grateful. Write up on winners is on the blog.
I attended an 80th birthday party for the lovely Pam Honeybone on 13 August. It was my first ever 80thbirthday celebration and it did not disappoint. The ladies and indeed the swinging 60s ladies were out in force. Lunch was arranged after the golf but when I arrived at the club I found the ladies playing cards as the rain and thunder storm moved everyone indoors early if they were brave enough to go out in the first place.
The birthday girl herself just shone throughout the day and enjoyed having everyone around. Lunch was light and the atmosphere fun as we sang happy birthday and Pam was dumbstruck by her generous birthday gifts. Belinda has taken photos so I am sure we will reminisce later in the year.
The following week we held another very successful, well organised and attended open. Our committee covered all the key jobs and really ensured our guests had a fabulous day. Lisa did a fantastic job and got a big cheer on the day. Having organised last years event-when I was vice - I know how much work is involved to make the day run smoothly and she did our section proud – so well done!
All the excitement seemed to arrive in the one week. We celebrated Sue and Gills 60th twins birthday (again!!)
with a golfday on the Saturday 22nd August and I thank them for the donation towards the lady the captains charity fund. The winners were congratulated however, I was slightly distracted as Lee was out on the course trying to win the club championship – he was successful and I was a very proud wife who had to ferry my very drunk husband around for the rest of the evening!
The next day was Topsy Turvy, another new event for the year which I really didn't know if it would work or not. The mixed section did not disappoint as we had 52 competitors sign up to play the course on the opposite tees. I am very pleased to report the ladies played off the whites very well indeed and the men tried to joke about how easy it was but soon stopped as they struggled to club properly and could not invent enough shots to see any of them burn up the course. To add to the atmosphere and craziness pairs were paired up to make a team of 4 and this proved to provide a great result. We recycled an old mixed team trophy which is not played for now and presented this to the winners. Gill has provided a full update on the blog so hopefully everyone is up to date.
We have welcomed a number of new lady members in the last few months so I thought I would introduce them so you are all aware of their names in case you haven’t met up yet.
Vicky Common, Toni Littlewood, Geraldine Noonan, Pauline Steeden. Pat has made sure all the welcome letters have been sent so that they can be fully included by the section and the club as they wish. Hopefully we will see them at forthcoming events.
September began with my lady captain’s away day which was held at Birchwood Park. It was lovely to go back to my old club and enjoy a good day out which was well supported by the section so thank you to everyone who joined me. A report has been posted on the blog. We even had some lucky scratch card winners who shared their winnings and donated to the charity.
The Archer 5 club was played and won by our lowest handicap lady Lindsay Hart, who in her winners speech said she enjoyed the day and played well as she was ‘relaxed and enjoying the company of her playing partners’. Well done to everyone for taking part and we are grateful as ever for the sponsorship extended for this event by Caroline Harrison who couldn't join the day as she was playing in an external knockout. Caroline did catch up with the goings on later in the bar.
News of the Swinging 60’s away day held at the Weald reached me and I hear it was well attended and there was glorious sunshine for the day as we had an Indian summers day. I could not attend due to other commitments but Lisa joined the lunchtime fun and said that the day was well organised and there was plenty of laughter as ever.
The Friendship Cup was played yesterday and a full report will be on the blog shortly. The greens were certainly challenging and it was nice to pay greensomes after a few months of betterball competitions. Thanks go to Gill and Shirley for organising us and to everyone who played getting to the tee earlier as the tee time changed at the last minute which meant the competition needed to go off 15 mins early! Thank goodness for email and text!!
So another month has whizzed by and now we head to the end of the playing season with the Autumn meeting tomorrow which I am looking forward to as we get together as a ladies section once again afterwards. I have also begun a new job so the juggling this coming final two months will be interesting but I am every grateful for the work of the committee who support our section voluntarily and help me out when I most need it.
So as ever I finish with wishing you all continued good golf enjoying the remainder of the golfing season- swing slow ladies.
Regards g

Thank you re Ladies Open
Ladies Open - Tuesday 18th August 2015
Although numbers were slightly down on the last couple of years, we still had 24 teams enter our Ladies Open. A total of 72 ladies meant this was by far the biggest Open that I've attended in 2015 showing that West Malling is still a favourite.Despite the early morning M20 closure resulting in a few of our guests arriving extremely late and stressed, we still managed to get them all out for their round of golf. I am very proud to be a member at West Malling as the atmosphere on the day was extremely warm and welcoming and I have received several emails expressing thanks for a lovely day. I feel this is due to the team effort by all of us, for which I am very grateful, especially as this was the main event for me to organise this year. The support from the Ladies Section, the donations received of bottles and balls, the Committee who took on the admin jobs on the day, our friends/husbands who set up the half way hut and ferried Ma’s Bars assistants around, the starters, the ball spotters (who were very much appreciated by our guests), our members that turned up and asked where their help was needed, the Catering staff and last but not least Ashley and the Pro shop for their continued support for this event….. all of these made our Ladies Open such a successful event which is amazing. So a very big Thank You to you all!!Lisa KiddieVice Lady Captain 2015
