Shekylls result - 2015
During the summer many of you participated in the knockouts.
I can share one result with the others to follow when they have been completed, which is very shortly.
Congratulations are extended to Lisa Kiddie for winning the single knockout competition and the Shekylls trophy and to Carol Eldridge for making the final.
I understand this is Lisa's first trophy so I am sure she will be very excited when we present this to her next month.
Well done to everyone who took part I know these comps make us hone our match play skills for the external competitions so they are an important part of our calendar.

Lady Captains Report – October 2015
My report is short this month as it is only 3 weeks since the last
time I wrote….
Autumn has now arrived and we are at the end of the golfing
season. It has been a most enjoyable one
and the time has just flown and we have had great support at events and
competition throughout.
The day after my last report we held our annual Autumn meeting
which was well supported and although we had a day of mixed weather it was nice
to have a get together as a section once again. Our winner of the autumn
meeting was Gill Harman and she was thrilled to be taking the trophy home so
congratulations to her and the other winners on the day. We held a bottle and
ball sweep and had a nearest the pin which contributed to monies raised to the
lady captains charity for 2015 – thank you!
The Merlin's match was held on 22nd September. We had
missed a year but the usual banter was a theme of the day. We wanted to win but unfortunately the chosen
format on the day seemed to be set up in favour of our male opponents. A full report was posted on the blog. I know
next year’s format is already under discussion. These interclub fixtures are certainly
successful and I have enjoyed taking part in all of them.
Our final trophy competition of the year was held on Sunday 4th
October. Beating the Spitfire course that never makes a mistake was our
challenge. Congratulations to the winner Lydia Doherty who ended up all square
and the runners up. An update will be on
the blog shortly.
Ladies it is now time to be proud…., of how we react to either
supporting each other; or events across the club and even celebrating success.
In the last month there have been three different instances being demonstrated
which I share to highlight the spirit across our section:
I would like to recognise that our ladies support across club charity
events and took part in Steve Macintosh Charity Day & Goffs Charity Day during
September. It is great to see our ladies support these events and I know the
organisers are grateful for the time and the money donated for worthy causes.
To say that we pull together in moments of need. One of our ladies is unable to drive at the
moment due to ongoing medical tests and some of our ladies have ensured that lifts
are arranged and support is extended. I know the individual is very grateful
and taken aback but I am not surprised in the least as it is great to know that
we are there for each other.
And finally to end on a real high - To say the section is proud,
is an understatement, of our Tappin
Trophy Team for 2015. Our ladies quietly got on with the job of knocking out
opponents and headed to the final on 1st October. I received some
text updates during the day and when the final one came through from Julie Harris
at 4pm to say we won it was great news for the team and our section. Supporters
helped by being there and the team I know are still celebrating. Pictures and the Trophy will be displayed at
the club shortly.
So as ever I finish with wishing you all continued good golf
enjoying the few events left in our calendar for the year - swing slow ladies.
Regards g
Quiz nite - thanks for you support
Just a quick note to say thank you for your support at the quiz nite on 16th October.
The evening was well supported and added just over £200 to the ladies captain charity fundraising for the year. It is the last event of my year so my thanks go to everyone who has shown generosity this year.
It was nice to have a cash raffle with the West Malling fivers which ensured we gave out cash prizes of £130 to 4 lucky winners. Thanks are extended to Lisa and Gill for organising that for me.
The staff who work at the diabetes centre at Darent valley also joined us and Karen the head specialist nurse was able to update us on what funds raised this year are being used for. Karen left an example ward distributed insulin guide with me and this is in the ladies changing room for reference if anyone is interested - it was nice to have the opportunity to bring this aspect alive.
Congratulations are extended to the winners who proved they are seasoned quizzers. Prizes were awarded to the 1st and 2nd teams. Well done! To everyone else, it's the taking part that counts and hopefully you learned something!
Finally, to Jeanette and Bernie who prepare and administer the quiz and last but not least entertain everyone, by just being themselves I cannot say thank you enough and I know everyone enjoys the spirit and atmosphere they create.
Here's hoping they do it again next year!

Men vs ladies - mixed charity day 11 October
Ladies
With our pairings ready all we needed to know was who we were playing - so on a first come, first served basis the matches were drawn on Sunday morning along with the tee for a shotgun start.
Phew!
Gill was amazing collecting the money whilst I kept up with knowing who played who as well as answering 101 questions and Lisa and Donna sold raffle tickets - team effort!!
We paid the bill for the carvery and everyone headed for the tee.....
We had 14 matches which included Malcolm and Steve playing for the ladies so I renamed them Mel and Stephanie for Sunday only. The banter on the course was great and most groups could be heard laughing throughout the morning.
We had a well deserved lunch which was enjoyed by all and as always the staff were terrific.
I asked Joe to announce the result which for the first time in the 4 times we have played was a ladies victory. Well done us ! We made lots of noise in the dining room to celebrate the victory.
And now it was time for the fines......
Misdemeanours & stories from throughout the year and from the matches on the day had been carefully collated by Joe who had great pleasure in sharing and making people pay. Even the guests
got fined, some just by association! Our fine collectors did a great job running round the room and
keeping up with what was going on - thank you Lisa and Malcolm.
The biggest thanks go to everyone who took part by entering into the spirit of a day which began in 2012 when Caroline was our lady captain and which has grown to be a part of our mixed calendar. Generosity from everyone is astounding and certainly never ceases to amaze me.
From donations of fines, raffle and auction prizes along with entry we raised a staggering £1700 just in one day.
Most of you are aware that I added another charity to support this year back in January, mainly, for the Bike ride so the proceeds of the day will be split equally between Darent valley diabetes centre and the Maidstone hospital oncology unit. I know both will be more than grateful.
As I sign off all I can say is your support is amazing and it would not happen without Joe who does a fab job with the support of Julie who tries to stay in the background.
Biggest hugs
G 😄

Also, if anyone is looking for one more to join a team then I know someone looking to attend on Friday.
Look forward to seeing you there.

Lady captain vs lady vice captain 6th & 10th October
Another new event in our calendar took place last week. This replaces Secretary vs Lady Captain.
Lisa and I thought we would have a bit of fun and our line up was Europe vs USA (like the Solheim!) by virtue of the ball markers which were a lucky dip on the day.
It was all to play for !! - the winning team on each day got a sharpie pen.
Lisa had chosen Europe for Tuesday. So game on ....
The ladies braved a very wet morning and called it a day after 9 holes. Unfortunately, due to work I had to miss out on the fun but I hear there was plenty of banter throughout the morning. I had to rely on my team!
Winners were Europe so it was 1 nil to Lisa.
Saturday came around and 14 ladies assembled on the tee - ball markers were picked??!! (it was a bit disorganised as usual). The weather was much kinder to the weekend ladies who played 18.
Lisa and I both played and drew our ball markers after the game.
Lisa again got Europe who where once again victorious. If only they had WMGC ladies playing in the real Solheim cup, perhaps it would have been a different result!!
Luckily we had no controversy.
My congratulations go to the winning ladies who hopefully put their sharpie pens to good use.
Very well done to Lisa. Hopefully something like this stays in the calendar - only time will tell!!

Ladies vs Vets - Trophy returns 8/10
Ladies today we won the trophy back from the vets. It is back in the cabinet and ready to be engraved.
We played 7 matches on the spitfire and won 4 to 3 in the autumn sunshine. Our opponents were true gentlemen as ever and the banter was colourful to say the least.
My thanks go to everyone who played but special mention to the ladies that stepped in at the last minute to ensure we fielded a full team. Shirley, Sue and Jean - I appreciated your support.
Well done to the team!
