October's events were all very varied but all most enjoyable. We have certainly had a mild and very
pleasant month weather wise.
Lady Captain vs Lady Vice was the competition we began October
with. Lisa and all those ladies who
picked the European ball markers were victorious both on the Tuesday and the
Saturday. It was great hearing the banter
and holding a fun competition at a nice time of the year and something that was
a little different but popular with everyone.
We then held our autumn Ladies vs Vets day on the 8th
October and I have to say this is a day that as a working lady I will probably
miss going forward as I have really enjoyed taking part. As hosts for this fixture the ladies made
sure we won the trophy back and enjoyed a lovely day in the autumn sunshine.
The vets even made sure that the trophy was handed back sparkling which made me
giggle given that in March I had to ask the office for some silver polish as it
had lost its shine.
The mixed charity day hosted by Joe Harris never ceases to amaze
me. The mixed section really gets behind
the day and Joe ensures that with good preparation people are fined and
entertained by funny stories and misdemeanours.
The day raised a fantastic amount of money for the both the charities I
have supported this year and it was also a social day where we enjoyed taking
over the carvery complimented alongside a glass or two of vino. An added bonus this time was that for the
first time since it began in 2012 – the ladies won!!. We certainly made sure we made some noise.
The Quiz nite was again well supported and 2 teams from Darent
Valley joined the evening and enjoyed the entertaining relaxed atmosphere
created by Jeannette and Bernie who were on sparkling form. This event added to
the charity funds collected and we had a few happy cash prize winners on the
night who joined the fiver raffle.
The rearranged Committee Cup was held on Sunday 18th
October. Every member of the committee joined the day and it was nice for us to
be able to enjoy a get together including a carvery lunch without an
agenda! Well done to Jane who won the
day with 39 points.
We have made it through to November, and spent the first day of
the month navigating our way around the Spitfire in the fog. We held the last
mixed comp of the season and the mixed section made some noise for Gill and
Shirley who have organised us during the year
Next is Thanksgiving and I am looking forward to a nice evening
celebrating the section successes and also a social occasion to relax and
reflect on a year which I have really enjoyed. Preparations are well under way
and money is being collected at the office so hopefully all of you who signed
up are looking forward to it too.
Pat West is also busy organising us for the AGM and has
distributed the agenda, minutes and proposals for this year. We have some new nominations for the
committee so I hope that you are all ready to attend and enjoy the day when
Lisa takes over.
I for one am looking forward to a new year as I know Lisa has lots
of great ideas which I will enjoy supporting as during the month handover to
Lisa has begun and all sign up sheets, diary etc. are now with her. The Lady Captain book has been filled in and
I wish Lisa all the best with planning.
I finish by saying many thanks for the support extended to me
personally during the past year. It’s
been a year when I have really enjoyed getting to know everyone better and
hopefully have tried to ensure that everyone has felt included. My final report will be at the AGM so please
do not get bored of me saying thank you as I really do mean it.
Here’s to enjoying your golf during the winter months when the
conditions are not always good but we get out in the fresh air just to ensure
we keep our swings going for when it matters.
