LADY CAPTAIN’S REPORT JULY 2016

What mixed weather we are having!

I have been fortunate enough over the past month to have a couple of mini breaks.  A few days in Bermuda playing golf with my husband Colin, although we took the thunder and lightning with us! – Yes I won!!!

On my return, I was invited to join in the Past Lady Captain's competition as Lady Captain, held on the 22nd of last month.  Thank you Jane Woodward for organising such a fun event.  All Past Lady Captains had a caddie each – the laughter started very early on in my 4 ball.  My poor Caddie Pauline Steeden, thank you for your patience.  Having to deal with a left handed player, with no logical housekeeping of clubs in my bag which meant Pauline had to borrow our playing partner Jane’s ‘short’ clubs when having to take her shots.  This made the task completely confusing for the first few holes.

Well Done Past Lady Captain – Molly Ball and Caddie Debbie Tenant winning the day.

The West Malling Masters took place the following weekend and well done to all the ladies that took part especially all those who got caught in the rain and thunder.  I didn’t make the cut – but I was there to see you come in and congratulations to Julie Harris for a nearest the pin on the Hurricane and to Jill Gambling coming 4th overall on the final day – fabulous result from our ladies section.

Thank you ladies who turned up for the ‘Meet and Greet’  on Saturday the 2nd and thank you Gill Newson for stepping in and organising this event.  We will continue to try to encourage new ladies to join us.

Working around the Ladies Calendar I managed to fit in a short trip to Portugal with 12 girlfriends.  We stayed in a villa backing onto a golf course.  None of the girls played!!! Torture!!

Whilst I was away, my husband Colin organised a 72 hole golf challenge in aid of this years chosen charity Spadework.  Colin and 5 other members of the Breakfast Club Society took part and have raised over a staggering £10,500.00 including gift aid!!!

Such a substantial amount of money – well done Matt Woodhams, Eric Doherty, Steve Mckintosh, Paul Hurd, Nathan and Colin Kiddie.  Malcolm and I would like to extend our thanks to all friends, family, colleagues and neighbours who supported the challenge as we are both completely overwhelmed with the amount you have raised.

You still have time to Sponsor: Virgin Giving – Spadework – 72 hole golf challenge

Ladies Invitation Day last Tuesday was a new event last year.  It gives the ladies of West Malling the opportunity to host a day for friends from other clubs.  Personally I think the course is looking in great condition and it was lovely to hear our guests thought the same.

We had a combined team competition – double points with the pink ball.  Congratulations to Shirley Miller and guest Dawn.  Paired with Jill Harman and her guest Jean – a very impressive 62 points.

2nd Place went to last years champions Jill Gambling and her partner Sandy on count back to 1st place Shirley Miller and her partner Dawn – both pairs scoring 40 points.

Thank you West Malling ladies for inviting friends, to what I consider a to be a great social day.

Forthcoming Events

Coming up this Friday is a new event ‘Captains 9 and Dine’. Malcolm and I will host 23 golfers for 9 holes followed by a presentation with Fish and Chips at the Duke of Wellington Ryarsh.

Sunday 10th July is Club Captain's Day – one of the big events of the year and we have a great turn out of 30 ladies.  I am looking forward to seeing you all there and making sure all your needs will be catered for – my 10 year old nephew Louis will be helping Malcolm in a buggy – not sure who will have the most amount of fun!

By special request from the swinging 60’s we have put two more 9 hole competitions in the calendar – Thursday 4th August and Thursday 15th September.

Happy Golfing Ladies

Lisa Kiddie
