Lady Captains Report for July

Malcolm and I hosted our first ‘Captains 9 and Dine’ on Friday 8th July. We started off at 16:00hrs – a mixed group of ladies and gentlemen in 3 balls who completed 9 holes on the Spitfire and 26 of us went for a Fish & Chip Supper and prize giving at the Duke of Wellington in Ryarsh.

Everyone enjoyed the event and as requested we will try to fit in another evening before the nights start drawing in.

We also had the Captains Day on Sunday 10th July and whilst the weather wasn’t at its best we had a great day and thank you all for your generous donations as we raised over £1,800 for the charity!

Congratulations:             1st Sally Payne
                                    2nd Lindsay Hart
                                    3rd Diana Scott

Then great results for the ladies over the weekend that saw the Ladies Section taking on the Pegasus Society.
7 pairs of ladies signed up for the challenge with plenty of banter and laughter throughout the games.

Thank you to Carol Eldridge and Eric for setting up camp on the 6th hole of the Hurricane and supplying us with beers, pims and snacks – which was very much appreciated and nice to see Carol looking so well!

We were back out on the course again on the Sunday for the Inter-Society competition set up by Steve Mackintosh.  I think it’s a great idea of mixing up West Malling Societies and a chance to meet new people! We also raised £190.00 for Spadework – Thank you!!!

Guess what Ladies…………… We won!!! Beating the Merlins, Breakfast Club, Pegasus, Dumbledores and the Nomads – Congratulations to Lydia Doherty for winning the highest score with 39 Stableford points.

Thursday 28th the long awaited ‘Quintet of Octogenarians’.  I am a very proud Lady Captain to be part of such an occasion.  A lovely afternoon tea celebrating with Vicky Richardson, Judy Kay, Joan Vernon, Margret Barnard and Pat Leadbetter.  The ladies are a real credit to our section.  A big thank you to our Joycie Paterson for overseeing and organising the event – and a beautiful cake made by Peggy Baker.

The last weekend in July and the Club Championship took place – first day on the Spitfire, second day on the Hurricane.  Well done and congratulations to this year’s Nett winner Gina Wilson and our Lady Club Champion winner Julie Harris.

Next weekend brings a new event to our calendar - The West Malling Ryder Cup!
Club Captain and myself are taking on Vice Captain Roy Allen and Lady Vice Captain Gill Newson in this team event.  4BBB on the Saturday followed by 2 ball Texas Scramble on Sunday! Competitors are ready to go and don’t forget your team colours!!!

The Breakfast Club 72 hole golf challenge has raised an incredible £12,104.75 with Gift Aid!
A massive amount of money for our local charity

This year’s Ladies Open is full!  Thank you all for promoting this event when taking part in friendly matches and Opens.  If you are available and can spend a few hours as a volunteer please could you sign up in the Ladies Changing room.

Please don’t forget to sign up for the Lady Captains Away day on the 6th September also.  It is being held at Nizels Golf Club in Hildenborough this year.  Afternoon tea included.

September ‘Overnighter’- Georgina Venus will be contacting you with the link to make the final payment this week.

Happy Golfing Ladies

Lisa Kiddie
