Lady Captains Report:

Personally, I love this time of year the weather has continue to be kind to us and the autumnal colours are starting to come through and some of the views of the Spitfire are looking particularly spectacular.

The last month has been great fun starting from Ladies Vs Merlins – as most ladies are aware – Malcolm our Club Captain is a member of the Merlin society – The Ladies Section has struggled to come out as champions in this  match for a number of years.

Not in 2016!!!  A well deserved 6 ½ Vs 1 ½ - A massive win for the ladies.  I was a very proud Lady Captain.  Considering how confident Malcolm was thinking he was going to come out triumphant - Caroline Harrison and myself, finished our match against him and Steve Wright with a win on the 12th– My winners speech in the clubhouse – Oh my word I delivered such a gloating speech.  I should be embarrassed, but if I’m honest it was one of the highlights of my Lady Captains year so far!

The next day 26 of the West Malling Ladies Section went off to Stoke By Nayland for our inaugural ‘Overnighter’

We were divided into two teams – Captains Vs Vice colour coded shirts – plenty of banter started as we met for breakfast.

It was a real blessing that we had a private dining room for our evening meal – as Kim Wellman put together some interesting games – which showed up some very competitive behaviour!  My personal favourite game was ‘flapping the fish’

It was nice to celebrate two recent ‘special birthdays’ Caroline and Elaine with a cake too.

However, I think some ladies haven’t understood the motto – What goes on tour stays on tour. If some of us want to stay up until 4:00am not every member of West Malling Golf Club needs to know when we get back – especially not the Pro Shop!

The Overnighter was a great success the weather was extremely kind to us as we played both courses and with some great personal results in.

Thank you Elaine Katter for organising the prize giving and thank you to Georgina Venus who organised this fabulous event and also for supplying the wine on the table!

This event will be back in the calendar for next year – venue will be announced at the AGM.

Sunday 2nd October was the annual Men Vs Ladies – Hosted by Joe Harris.  This is one of the most popular and a very well supported event in the diary.

Basically, Joe has these snoops in the camp all year – and these snoops dig up the dirt on of us and we sit down and have a Carvery and listen to Joe spilling the beans on every individual in the room.

So, if you’ve lost control of your trolly, made a ridiculous comment, if you’re a Merlin and you lost your Match play against the ladies 8 & 6 – or even stayed up until 4;00am at the Ladies Overnighter – you will be named and shamed plus a fine for your actions.

Thank you so much Joe Harris for hosting this event for our charity – Unfortunately the Ladies lost 7 ½ vs 4 ½ it’s a really funny day and always taken in good spirit – especially when Pete Skelton turn the tables on you!!!

A big thank you to all of you who support this event  we raised a fantastic £817.15 for our Charity Spadework.  Malcolm and I are overwhelmed.

Last week brought back Captain Vs Secretary – Pat and I thoroughly enjoyed this event – I can’t believe Pat’s team won on the Tuesday AND the Saturday. Thank you for all who took part and Thank you to Gill Newson and Birthday Girl Jill Gambling for steeping in for Pat and I on Saturday.

So, this just leaves me to mention dates coming up.

This Friday the 14th is the Quiz night hosted by Jeanette and Bernie, we already have a great turn out but there are still a couple of tables available if you are free to join us.  We will be holding a raffle so any bottles and balls would be much appreciated.

The Ladies Vs Vets on Monday 17th is going ahead but if any more ladies would like to play and have lunch please could you contact Rena Jones.

Our Captains Ball 19th November – if you and your friends would like to join the fun please can you contact myself or the office as there is no need to have a table of 10 – we will take groups of any number.  We have an evening of entertainment lined up with the live Band ‘Masterclass

Happy Golfing Ladies
