Lady Captain's Report January 2017

Well my time in 2016 as Vice Captain to Lisa has flown by.  I can honestly say I enjoyed every minute and a massive thank you to Lisa for training me to be the next Lady Captain.

The AGM on 27th November was when I took over.  Georgina, Jane, Carol and Sue left the committee and all of them did a fantastic job and served our Ladies Section well.  We then welcomed Kim and Gina who will be organising the ladies competitions and Jill Gambling agreed to be my Vice Captain!!  Thank you Jill and I am really looking forward to working with you all this year.

My charities are Breast Cancer Kent and Ellenor Hospice and this will be a joint fund raising enterprise with Roy Allen the Club Captain.

The last mixed of 2016 was my first event.  It was a team competition and we all wore Christmas jumpers with some even having lights!!  A great end to our mixed calendar.

We then had our Christmas lunch and 12 hole competition.  This was really well supported and I personally had a fabulous time.  Following this the Swinging Sixties had their Christmas lunch which unfortunately, I was unable to attend but I hear they also had a really good day

Rena organised a night out and 36 of us went to the Angel pub where we had a brilliant evening!!  The food was really good, the company excellent and the ‘entertainment’ was outstanding!!  It was so good we have already booked for December 2017.

Then came the time for the ‘Drive In’.  A big thank you to all who came and supported the official handover of the Club Captain, from Malcolm to Roy Allen.  He announced his Vice Captain John Harrison – the best kept secret in West Malling and a very popular choice!

It stayed dry for the ‘putt out’, the farewell to Lisa and Malcolm and they both used my right handed putter – they are lefties – and both had good putts.  They also had a friendly bet as to who would get closer to the pin.  Lisa won – hooray!! – and Malcolm kindly made a donation to our charity for this year.  Thank you both so much for your generosity.

The drive off the tee – well!!  I was very nervous but happy that I had hit the ball 118 yards.  We then celebrated a great 2016 and looking forward to 2017 with a lovely meal and a few drinks.  A super day was had by all.

The yardage entry on the day was won by a guest of our Lady President Vicky Richardson which was lovely.

We have raised over £1,000 so far for our charities so thank you all so much for your support and generosity.

So here’s wishing you all a happy and healthy 2017 - Much love Gill
