Lady Captain's Report

The first big event of the year, the Spring Meeting, took place on Tuesday 11th April and what a great turnout it was too!  47 ladies took to the Spitfire on a lovely spring day.  The winner was Lydia Doherty and we awarded her the trophy.  The food was good and apparently the quiz was very difficult!!  Don’t blame me blame Mr Google!!  Our brain boxes Sue Stickland and her team won the box of chocolates.  Thank you to everyone who brought along bottles and balls for the raffle.

Then we had our Easter fun competition and the winning team were Julie Harris, Sue Gofton, Jenny Aldridge and myself.  Second was Anne Smart, Sally Payne, Sara Burbridge and Carol Eldridge.  Thank you to everyone who played and £65 was raised for the charities.

The friendlies are off to a great start with us winning against Westerham, Tudor Park and Nizels!  Well done teams and don’t forget to keep an eye out for the sign-up sheets on our notice board.

We have had a couple of external competitions, the Dail Mail Foursomes and Cecil Leitch 5 Club and also the usual stablefords and medals.  I am pleased to report that these have been well supported.

Again 48 of us went off to Boughton Golf Club on the May day bank holiday.  This is always such a fun day and a big thank you to Lydia for managing to secure this for us at such a great price once again.  Thanks also to Doug Church and Norman Kane for sponsoring the nearest the pins on the day and to all those players who bought the mulligans as the money for these went straight into our charities.

I attended a management meeting where I found out that ‘Intelligent Golf’ is now being used at West Malling.  This is great news and Jill attended the training for the handicaps and this will be really good for our section and the more the package is rolled out to us, the more we shall benefit.

On Saturday 29th April, Sadie Millgate had entered 20 odd of us into the ‘Glow in the Park’ fun run at Deitling Showground!  Although a bit chilly it was great fun so thank you to Sadie for all the planning and shopping she did for accessories etc.  A good night was had by all.

Unfortunately, Wilderness GC have knocked our team out of the Pearson Trophy but what a good time we all had playing and representing West Malling!  Great team Rena and heres to next year!!

The good news is that we are still in the Tappin so well done to Carol Martin and her team – and to Sue Stickland with her strong Bradley Cook team who are also through to their next round.  We wish you all the very best of luck.

I had the absolute pleasure of caddying for Julie Harris, our ladies Club Champion, on Sunday 14th May at Littlestone.  To say it was windy would be an understatement but Julie played really well and we both enjoyed the day.

Coming up tomorrow evening is our Quiz Night, (19th May) so hurry and get your tickets for a great everning – and then the Captains’ Competition on Bank holiday Monday 29th May.  This is a team of 4 of any combination so sign-up and pay in the Office because it promises to be another fun day.

Hopefully the weather will improve soon as we have lots of golf to look forward to so please keep an eye on the board for the sign-up sheets.

Much Love Gill
