Bradley Cook

Well we tried our best but unfortunately it wasn't quite good enough this time to reach the final of the Bradley Cook Plate competition.
We had Royal Cinque Ports and Kent & Surrey in the round robin and came second in this to proceed to the Plate part of the competiton, where we came up against Sidcup. After beating them we had to play Wrotham in the semi final.  We all tried our best but lost 5-0 at Wrotham yesterday and then today lost 3-2 at West Malling. It wasn't meant to be this year, but we will definitely come out fighting next year. Thanks to all the team...Lindsay, Lydia, Jill, Jane, Julie & Rena. Additionally, I would like to thank Molly and Judith for their support in our match yesterday.

Ladies Open

I had a brilliant day yesterday and seems that all the visiting ladies did too.

I have to say a massive thank you to all those that helped on the day - ladies and men - because the day could never have run as smoothly as it did without all your hard work!

Amazing co-ordination Jill and teamwork - both committee and volunteers alike - who helped make it a very successful event.

I shall be absent for a couple of weeks so would like to take this opportunity to wish the Bradley Cook team the very best of luck in their home and away matches with Wrotham Heath GC over the Bank holiday weekend.

Much love Gill

WM Ryder Cup Weekend

Saturday 5th August and it was the West Malling Ryder cup weekend, Europe (Lady Captain ) against USA (Club Captain).

The teams were drawn and the rules and team colours were agreed and off we went.

The format for Saturday was Hurricane course , 4BBB matchplay - this apparently caused some confusion but everyone entered into the spirit of the weekend and all had great matches and great banter - until the rain came!! What a shame!!  The results were announced and Europe were leading by 1 game - very close - and we then decided to do a live draw for Sunday!!

As someone said to me "Live draws don't work out - that's why they are so funny" - well funny isn't the word I used when Roy and I couldn't keep track of the draw!!

So we did a semi live draw in the fact that we sat down and got the draw done - thank you to Kim and Lindsay who did all the work.

Sunday was a 2 ball Texas Scramble and the weather was lovely so off we went on the Spitfire course.  This is such a fun format and you could hear laughter all around the course. We came in to baguettes and roasties while the results were verified.  Again it was really close and the winning team was Europe winning 6-5 over the weekend.

As Roy provided the prizes we raised £240.00 over the weekend and also £8.00 for fines for going in our bunkers. Thank you so much everyone for your great support and generosity.  51 people played in this and I think it is fair to say this is a great addition to our mixed competitions.

Please keep looking at the mixed board as we have lots of competitions coming up.

Lady Captains Summer Report

It’s the end of June which means it is the Masters’ competition.  Our ladies section again showed up in good numbers and we all entered into it with great spirit. .Jill Gambling yet again played so well and although not recognised by the Club she is our ‘Masters’ champion – so very well done Jill.

We then had the Mid-Week Trophy competition with a great turnout on a beautiful sunny day.  I promise I will remember to get the trophy before I start the presentations from now on!!

Next came the Mid-Season Pairs and again a very popular competition with another great turnout and still sunny. Julie and I defended our title from last year and were the very proud winners – which was just as well as we forgot to bring the trophy back!!

Our Ladies Invitation Day is a chance to show off our club to non-members.  Unfortunately, I was unable to attend but Jill did the most excellent job of ensuring everyone had a great day.

We have played two Friendlies at home and these were Canterbury and Woodlands.  Thank you to all who play in these matches as they are really fun.  The next match will be away to Kings Hill.

For Captains Day the ladies went off on the Hurricane and it was a great day.  I absolutely loved the whole day with everyone having the best time playing golf in the sunshine.  Sara and I were in the mobile half-way house and yes the Pimms passed the Lynne Skelton test – and the sausage rolls and baklava went down a storm!!  We had afternoon tea which was delicious and our presentation.  Thank you to everyone for making this such a great day.  We than joined the men for the raffle draw and Jill Gambling won 1st prize of the Motocaddy Trolley and Battery and the ladies section did well winning other prizes too.  We raised £2,240 on the day and again I am blown away with the generosity – thank you all.

Sunday 16th July and we drive to Headcorn to see Donna’s skydive.  But after her training the weather turned cloudy and she wasn’t allowed to jump!!  This has now been rebooked for Sunday 3rd September.  She has raised over £1,000 for our charity – well done Donna and good luck.

We played our match against Pegasus and this is always full of fun and banter.  A great day was had by all and a massive thanks to Bob for the excellent Halfway House!!  The weather changed and the last few groups were drenched.  The result was a draw so we retained the trophy – though when Bob took our team photo you would have thought we had won!!!

The end of July brings the club championship – a great two day competition that tests our skills!!  Thank you to Jill for putting the flags on the blocks as this really does help.  Jill is our ladies Champion so well done to her  – I think you are the champion of champions – Masters and Club Championship great job!!

Looking forward to our Ryder Cup weekend and yet again a great turn out for a two day event.

Don’t forget to keep checking the Ladies (upstairs) and Joint (hallway) boards because there is always so much going on and wouldn’t want you to miss out.

Till next month, much love Gill

Just to let you know, in case you have entered any of the 9 Holes since the new IG system was introduced: The club hadn't set up the correct stroke indexes for 9 holes, therefore Diana is now having to re-enter the scores/competitions, as Greg has now updated the system. If you are getting email notifications, this is why.
