Lady Captains Summer Report

It’s the end of June which means it is the Masters’ competition.  Our ladies section again showed up in good numbers and we all entered into it with great spirit. .Jill Gambling yet again played so well and although not recognised by the Club she is our ‘Masters’ champion – so very well done Jill.

We then had the Mid-Week Trophy competition with a great turnout on a beautiful sunny day.  I promise I will remember to get the trophy before I start the presentations from now on!!

Next came the Mid-Season Pairs and again a very popular competition with another great turnout and still sunny. Julie and I defended our title from last year and were the very proud winners – which was just as well as we forgot to bring the trophy back!!

Our Ladies Invitation Day is a chance to show off our club to non-members.  Unfortunately, I was unable to attend but Jill did the most excellent job of ensuring everyone had a great day.

We have played two Friendlies at home and these were Canterbury and Woodlands.  Thank you to all who play in these matches as they are really fun.  The next match will be away to Kings Hill.

For Captains Day the ladies went off on the Hurricane and it was a great day.  I absolutely loved the whole day with everyone having the best time playing golf in the sunshine.  Sara and I were in the mobile half-way house and yes the Pimms passed the Lynne Skelton test – and the sausage rolls and baklava went down a storm!!  We had afternoon tea which was delicious and our presentation.  Thank you to everyone for making this such a great day.  We than joined the men for the raffle draw and Jill Gambling won 1st prize of the Motocaddy Trolley and Battery and the ladies section did well winning other prizes too.  We raised £2,240 on the day and again I am blown away with the generosity – thank you all.

Sunday 16th July and we drive to Headcorn to see Donna’s skydive.  But after her training the weather turned cloudy and she wasn’t allowed to jump!!  This has now been rebooked for Sunday 3rd September.  She has raised over £1,000 for our charity – well done Donna and good luck.

We played our match against Pegasus and this is always full of fun and banter.  A great day was had by all and a massive thanks to Bob for the excellent Halfway House!!  The weather changed and the last few groups were drenched.  The result was a draw so we retained the trophy – though when Bob took our team photo you would have thought we had won!!!

The end of July brings the club championship – a great two day competition that tests our skills!!  Thank you to Jill for putting the flags on the blocks as this really does help.  Jill is our ladies Champion so well done to her  – I think you are the champion of champions – Masters and Club Championship great job!!

Looking forward to our Ryder Cup weekend and yet again a great turn out for a two day event.

Don’t forget to keep checking the Ladies (upstairs) and Joint (hallway) boards because there is always so much going on and wouldn’t want you to miss out.

Till next month, much love Gill
