Well what a
busy month September was. Tuesday 12th
was the Autumn meeting, one of my favourite days! The weather was good and the turnout of 36
ladies was fantastic. We all enjoyed the
chicken and profiteroles and a great day was had by all.
We then had our
match against the Merlins. They have been talking about beating us after last
years result all year!! The banter in the bar for the live draw was
priceless. Ok so they beat us this year
but the fun we had was brilliant and we are already talking about next year’s
battle.
The next day we
were off on our overnighter!! 27 of us
went off to East Sussex National for a Sunday/Monday break – Sara we missed
you!! Sunday was played with your roomy
so after a good breakfast off we went.
The course was really lovely and afterwards we all met in the bar for the next day ‘draw’. We then went to our private dining room and
had a great evening of good food and entertainment! The ‘unique fact about yourself’ was so funny
and thank you to Jill and Kim for the entertainment and a massive thank you to
Lisa who organised the whole weekend so well.
I loved the courses and of course thank you everyone for making it such
fun.
The results
were as follows:
Day 1 -
Nearest the pin on the 8th was Julie and on the 13th was Elaine.
1st Stella and Judith with 38 points
2nd Sue and Helen with 38 points c/b
3rd Jane and Lydia with 37 points c/b
Day 2 –
Nearest the pin
on the 3rd was Georgina and on the 16th was Helen1st Stella and Georgina with 40 points
2nd Elaine and Sara with 40 points
3rd Pat and Lydia with 38 points c/b
The overall winner was Stella and the runner-up was Georgina. So well done all!
Sunday 1st
October and it’s our big charity day organised by Joe and Julie Harris. This is such an enjoyable day with men v ladies
for a great competition. The weather
forecast was horrific but turned out quite ok in the end with slight drizzle
but not enough to dampen our spirits.
Thank you Julie and Ken for providing the nearest the pins. We then all went in for a carvery lunch which
was lovely and the fun really began!! Joe reminds us of our misdemeanors etc
throughtout the year (beware when you see Mrs Harris with her purple book) and
as usual the is hilarious. I loved the
fact that even though I thought the ladies had lost, when Joe announced the
ladies had actually won we were all so excited and I cheered the loudest!! - only to be told that as we always get the
results wrong first time around he didn’t want to disappoint us – sooo funny
but true. We raised £1,205 and I was
blown away once again with your generosity.
Thank you to
Michael in the pro shop for the lesson he donated and was won by Julie.
Truly a
wonderful day so thanks again Joe and Julie.
We had Captain v Secretary on Tuesday and Saturday at the beginning of October. The captain won on Tuesday – on Saturday Pat and I couldn’t make it but were well represented by Jill and Kim – Secretary won on Saturday. Again a great turn out for a fun competition.
Saturday 15th
October and the ladies took on the Breakfast Club. This was our last inter society match and
apparently we were a bit over excited when we beat them last year!! So the banter began on the tee but the
ladies were unlucky and lost 5 & 2. Another
great day but our very last match of the year v the men will be to take on the Vets on
the Spitfire and we NEVER lose this match – so come on the Ladies we will need
to dig deep!!
We are now looking forward to the
quiz night on Friday 20th October, the Captain’s Ball on 18th
November, our Thanksgiving evening on 23rd November and the AGM on Sunday 26th November.
So don’t forget to purchase your tickets from the office for the quiz
and the ball and sign up for Thanksgiving in the changing room.
Much love -
Gill
