Lady Captain's Report (Jan)

The AGM went very smoothly (just a minor breakfast interruption if memory serves) as Gill signed off in style and handed over to me. Before she did, Lisa, Donna and Shirley stepped down whilst Sadie, Sally, Jean and Anne stepped up. I delighted in announcing Diana as my Vice Captain.

I announced My Shining Star as my chosen charity, but also that John and I were discussing doing something meaningful for Maidstone Hospital Oncology unit in memory of Sue Woodhams. This is still on the cards.

A 12 hole Texas Scramble followed by 14 pairs whilst I stayed in to ponder what I had taken on!

My first big event was the Christmas 12 Hole and lunch. It was really well supported and despite a few tee time adjustments, we all got in on time to enjoy what I thought was an excellent meal. Sadly I was unable to attend the Swinging Sixties lunch but I”m pleased they enjoyed the chocolates in lieu of me, certainly more digestible!
Following last year’s success, Rena organised the ladies night out again at the Angel – many thanks Rena. The food was excellent and the company unbeatable, even better to see Donna up on her feet again after back surgery. The only flaw was room temperature… which was slightly below acceptable body temperature.. I know Rena has a new venue in her sights for this year, so coats can be left at the door!

First up for 2018 was the drive in. The rain tried to upstage the putt out by Gill and Roy before John and I drove in but it mostly held off long enough for a few photos to be taken and our first official balls as Captains to be hit. My slightly underwhelming drive managed 155 yards before a tree intervened.. The winner of the closest ticket was Lindsay Hart with 156, and she is now the proud owner of a large bottle of Prosecco.

Kate drew the Christmas tree bauble ticket for another equally large bottle of fizz, and Judith was the lucky winner of that.

So far, with the drive-in tickets, bauble sales and donations in lieu of Christmas cards, we have raised £475 so far for our charities so thank you all so much for your support and generosity.

The annual Ladies Overnighter which was launched at Thanksgiving has now been filled (I hope it stays that way) with two new ladies Lyn and Marion from Broke Hill, accepting my invitation to join us. Hopefully you will all get the chance to meet them and their husbands over the next few months.

Ladies Diary: I have amended the diary as follows: Cecil Leitch moved from April 29th to 15th; Mid Week Trophy from May 30th to 29th (Tuesday); July 1 Mixed Team has been removed (it was a duplication). Caroline has kindly printed off some more. I have also put the diary per month on the Blog as well as all ladies competitions on the club website.

I have received information from: Bearsted GC regarding a Charity Bridge Drive at their club on Thursday 8 March, 1-1.30pm and will put it in the changing room, as well as their Open on 26 July, which I will put in the Open book. Also details from Royal Ashdown Forest for their two Opens, 1 August and 12 September.

Finally, on behalf of the ladies committees over the last few years, I would like to say a huge thank you to Pat and Lesley for all their hard work and efforts for the ladies sections, and the support you have given the various captains and vice’s over those years. I know you are both still involved in special projects/advisory roles which is very much appreciated.

Other than that, take care out on those slippy slopes and let's hope for better weather soon!
Jill
