LOTTERY

I have taken over the lottery from Gill Newson, I will try very hard to be at the club, Tuesday's, Thursday's and Saturdays to collect money, but if all the ladies could find me, it would make things easier.
If you have NO money in your lottery account and your numbers come up, you CANNOT WIN!!
So it is in your interest to keep your account in credit.
The following people have no money in their account:-

Peggy Baker
Ron Baker
Carrie Beech
Hazel Reucroft
Pat Donovan
Lesley Morris
Joan Vernon
Debbie Satchel

I will be at that club, this Saturday 11th, Sunday 12th and Tuesday 14th
Thank you
Rena

Lady Captains Report October 2014.

Well as I said in the last report September was to be another busy month and it proved the case. OK so we kicked off with the annual Joe’s v Raiders charity day and it was to be bigger and better. We decided earlier on in the year to have one event and make it large. Which is what we did? Joe and Julie organised the event and everyone that took part really enjoyed the occasion. The ladies team put in a sterling effort and drew overall on the day 7 and a ½ games each. A very fitting result. And a staggering amount of £2,274.42 was raised. My enormous thanks go to Julie and Joe Harris for their continued support of these charity events, and too everyone that supported us on the day or donated in their absence.

Next came the Autumn meeting kindly sponsored by our President Vicky Richardson, who was able to watch all the groups come up the 18th on the Hurricane.  The results on the day altered due to a card disqualification and the winner with a staggering 44 pts was Carol Eldridge, 2nd Lydia Doherty 39pts, 3rd Debbie Conder on count back from Rena Jones with 37pts. With best front nine going to Jenny Aldridge and back nine Stella Pitt. We all enjoyed a Chilli Jacket potato lunch and had one round of Heads or Tails which raised another £32 pounds for my charity. Some of the Ladies also got fined for their misdemeanours.

The second of the Ladles v vets matched took place and my thanks go to Rena Jones for Captaining in my absence. Overall result was another win to the Ladies

The annual Committee cup was played and 8 members of the committee turned out to play. Great fun was had by all. Judith was going for the double but unfortunately had to settle for nearest the pin. Julie was champ on the day.

On the same day we fielded a team to play in a mixed at Westerham and Rena lead out the Ladies. Again the result went West Mallings way. Well done to all who participated.

The mixed for September was again well supported even though it clashed with the Ryder Cup. Many of the teams decided to play early and the best seats were bagged around the telly. I’m happy to say the result went the Europeans way. For full report please see the blog. Also 3 people played exceptionally well and all agreed to put their cards in for handicap cuts. Well done to Sara, Mark and Pete.

Yesterday Sunday the 5th the Bradley Cooke team travelled to Ashford for the final of the plate competition. Everyone had played there courtesy matches and done their homework in readiness for the challenge. And what a challenge it turned out to be. Chart Hills had really brought out the big guns or should I say the Kent County schoolgirls. What great young golfers they are and what amazing golf was played. Despite there highest handicapper being lower than our lowest we battle bravely. Unfortunately we lost the first 3 matches so the referee called us in even though the last two games were still live. It was great to be a part of the final day and we even got to see the Bradley cook trophy for the first time. A big well done to Helen Venus for captaining the team this year and getting us the furthest we have ever been before, also all the team, and not forgetting our caddies that gave up there day to support us. Heres to next year. Come on team West Malling.

Just a reminder about the upcoming Quiz on the 17th October. The format will be the same as before. Please get your tables of six ready and tickets bought. There will be a raffle so all donations again gratefully received.

Good Luck with your golf in October.

Best Wishes Jane.

Bradley Cook Plate Runners Up

With subdued optimism the team arrived at Ashford yesterday in the sunshine for a good day's golf.  But with handicaps of +1,5,5,5,9 Chart Hills totally outgunned us to win the first three matches and although the last two matches were close they were called in.

I was very proud to receive our framed certificate on behalf of everyone who has played this year and they all deserve a mention here:
Sue, Lydia, Debbie, Jane, Helen, Donna, Finella, Lindsay

A special thanks go to our wonderful caddies who helped calm everybody down:
Rena, Julie, Caroline, Jill, Georgina

Golf aside West Malling true to form made it a good day out and we still drank our share of Prosecco in celebration of getting to the finals.  No other team on the day had anyone with handicaps in double figures and there will be more than one girl there yesterday hitting the pro circuit once they are old enough - in about 3 years time!!

As far as I can determine WM have never got to the plate final before so it was a MASSIVE achievement to do so and I am SO PROUD of all of you.  We have a strong squad of still improving low handicappers and I look forward to next year.

It was a pleasure to be your captain!!!
Helen x

JOE’S Raiders Charity day Smashes All Records.

And what an amazing day it turned out to be, after the initial battle to get the teams together and find last minute replacements. Everyone turned up bright and early for the 9.00 shotgun. Tees were picked and everyone was in great spirits. 15 pairs of Ladies set out to beat Joe’s Raiders and what an enjoyable fight we had. After the matches where played the normal rush to the bar commenced, and the usual banter continued. Obviously everyone was eager to know the results. Well the Ladies it seemed where over keen. I’m lead to believe that the Ladies haven’t as yet beaten Joe’s Raiders but this year we got a step closer in that the result was a draw. 7 and ½ matches each. Well done it couldn’t have been a more fitting result.

Once the excitement had died down we all sat down to a carvery meal joined by friends and family. The (amended version) of the national anthem was sung by Joe. Many thanks to Colin Kiddie for sponsoring this, and to Joe for taking up the challenge. The carvery was excellent and the catering staff did a fantastic job feeding so many people.

Everyone was then waiting in anticipation as to how much they would be fined. And yes everyone did get fined. Anyone’s misdemeanours got reported back to Joe and then the naming and shaming took place. Everyone took part in all good spirits.

We played the heads and tails game and for a new twist everyone was asked to place a bank note of any denomination into an envelope. Then write either their home or mobile number on the front. The winners were the envelopes with the most sevens combined from the bank note and telephone number. What a great money spinner this turned out to be.

An amazing amount of money was raised on the day and more donations trickled in over the next couple of weeks. Overall we raised approximately £2,274.42

My BIGGEST thanks go to Joe and Julie Harris for running this event and their continued support to the past and present/future Ladies Captains Charities.

Mixed Team Results

Well it might have been Ryder Cup weekend but that didn’t stop the Mixed Team competition of West Malling going ahead.
The teams were drawn, side bets placed, team colours discussed (although some people forgot these conversations) and early start times sorted.
There were really good scores in and we were waiting for the last group to finish. In they came and wow what a score.
The team of Thomas J (his first mixed competition), Steve McIntosh, Sara Burbridge and Diana Scott came in !st with 126 points.
2nd was the pink team of Colin Kiddie, Pete Skelton, Julie Harris and Debbie Conder with 114 points.
Lee and Georgina sponsored a nearest the pin on the 16th for the boys and 7th for the girls
The winners were Martin Chuter and Debbie Satchell.
The presentations were completed within the adverts so everyone could then carry on watching the Ryder Cup.
A great day was enjoyed by all.
Thank you to everyone for entering and in such great spirit as always, to Caroline for copying the scorecards and a special thank you to Julie for her help.
Next mixed comp is on 26th October –Betterball and then the next week 2nd November is the Pairs comp, the sign up sheets are on the board.

Thanks
Gill

Today was the second match of the year against the Vets.  A much smaller turnout than usual due to holidays etc.
The matches where as usual lots of fun, not so much for the men as the ladies won 2 1/2 to 1 1/2
The vets have only won twice and halved once since 2008.

WELL DONE LADIES!!

Bradley Cooke Final - here we come!!

WOW! what a team! We beat Wrotham Heath at home today 4-1.  UNBEATEN AT HOME THIS SEASON.
Sue led out the team and trounced her opponent 8&7. Debbie showed her usual grit and determination to come from 3 down but lost on the 18th.  Helen won 5&4 - we all LOVE the 14th (don't we?!). That meant one more win would see us through on points.  Jane was 3 up going down the 15th, still playing on the 17th (or so we thought) she was teasing with us and had already won 4&3.    Lydia next who took a little longer winning on the 20th hole 1 up - great staying power! But by then we had already won (although Lydia didn't know it) and we were all in the bar celebrating - she arrived EVENTUALLY!!!!  The Prosecco got another outing and discussions (arguments) centred around who was having what caddy for the final!
We are now in the finals of the plate to be held at Ashford on Sunday 5 October - the same team as today will play.
Well Done team - I am so PROUD of you ALL.
Here's to a great day on the 5th :)
Helen x
p.s. thanks to Julie and Caroline for supporting and helping to drink the Prosecco!!
