Mixed Friendship Cup Results
22 pairs played Greensomes in our only Mixed Trophy Competition. Those first out enjoyed beautiful sunshine and fortunately most managed to avoid the rain which came in late afternoon. The results were as follows:
1st Jeanette Johnson and Steve Deacon 41 pts
2nd Caroline Harrison and John Harrison 39 pts (on c/b)
3rd Carrie Beech and Laurie Beech 39 pts (on c/b)
Congratulations to the winners and a big thank you to everyone who took part.
A few more thank yous - firstly to Jane for helping on the day with the presentation and to Gill for her continuous support. Also to Ken Newson and Gerry Miller for doing some last minute repairs to our beautiful Friendship Cup!
The next mixed is the Team event on the 29th September. I shall be looking to do the draw for this later this week so please don't forget to sign up as soon as possible. This is a drawn event so normally ends up with lots of fun banter as usual pairings compete against each other for a change!

Lady Captain's Away Day
I arrived at the Tudor Park around 08:15 following a bit of a slow exit off of junction 8of the M20! I had noted the 50 mph signs a few yards back and was just praying that I would be able to get off when I needed to!
Lydia had arrived early so we had breakfast together. I was met by a really helpful Lady who basically took a hold of all my worries for the day and I at last felt at ease.
Our Ladies began to arrive and how wonderful to see 33 of our section take part in the day. I handed out a goody bag and informed the Ladies of the format for the day. There was a very relaxed feel as the Ladies chatted over morning coffee or tea.
At 10:20 the first group set off followed by the ten other groups. The sun was shining but maybe a little humid, alas it was a beautiful day!
On the second tee the Ladies found the bucket full of cans of Pimms on ice and I gather this went down well as lots of you commented on it after your game!!
I got to play with Sadie Millgate and Diana Scott and really enjoyed our round together. The greens were a little speedy but all in all the course was not too bad bearing in mind the amount of dry weather we have had.
After golf we all sat and enjoyed our meal and again it was really lovely to hear the Ladies chatting and enjoying the atmosphere.
There were some great scores in and they went as follows:
Nearest the Pin - Rena Jones
Longest Drive - Caroline Harrison
Mystery Prize - Margaret Barnard - (Secret Holes - top scorer)
Best Team - Lydia Doherty, Carol Eldridge & Denise Farley
Bronze Division
1st - Pat West - 41 points
2nd - Lesley Shott - 39 points
3rd - Stella Pitt - 36 points o/c
Silver Division
1st - Viv Allen - 39 points
2nd - Joyce Paterson - 36 points
3rd - Lydia Doherty - 35 points o/c
Well played to our winners on the day you are all stars, there were some great scores on the day.
My thanks to Lydia, Caroline and Lisa for their assistance on the day!
Ladies I would like to say a heartfelt thank you for joining me on the day and for making it a truly memorable one.
Best Wishes

Mixed Tunisian Results 1st September
Another successful mixed competition with 18 couples taking part which was very good considering a lot of the regulars were on holiday. The results were as follows:
1st Jane Woodward and Roger Woodhams 45 pts
2nd Lydia and Eric Doherty 43 pts
3rd Pat West and Tony Hall 40 pts
Jane Woodward practiced her lady captain skills by standing in for Debbie who was unable to make today and I would like to thank Jane for her support on the day. Also big thanks to Gill for helping with the organisation.
Don't forget we have two more mixed comps this month. The Friendship Cup on the 15th Sept and the mixed Team Event on the 29th Sept. Please sign up for these if you are interested in playing - I will be looking to do the draw for the Friendship Cup at the end of this week.

Bradley Cook Parallel Plate Semi Final
Unfortunately the mountain we had to climb today proved to be a little too high. We were beaten by Redlibbets and that, for this year anyway is the end of West Malling's run in the Bradley Cook competition.
Sue, Lydia, Jane, Kelly, Helen V, Debbie T, Debbie C, Caroline and Jill represented West Malling in the Scratch Team and got through to the semi finals. Jane and Helen, I am sure are both grateful to have had the opportunity to gain experience in public speaking in preparation for their roles next year. West Malling has a strong pool of relatively low handicap players now and under Helen's leadership next year will surely do even better in 2014.

Bradley Cook Parallel Plate Semi Final Away Match
West Malling took a small pasting at Redlibbets on Sunday in the away match of the Parallel Plate Semi Final. We achieved one good win, two close losses and two not so close losses. We need to win 5 nil or have 4 good wins on Friday in the home match to secure our place in the final. We have a strong line up with Sue, Debbie T, Helen V, Debbie C and Caroline and they will give it a good go. Supporters on Friday at 2pm will be very welcome. Dig in Team!

West Malling Ladies Open
What a day!
We arrived at the club at 07:15am on the morning of the Open ready to set up the reception desk, put up the gazebo for the halfway tent and other bits and pieces!
The sun was shining and at 23 degrees promised to be a super day!
There were 33 teams of 3 Ladies playing on the day so we knew that the day would be busy. Judith Parkhurst, Pat West and Carol Martin took care of the reception desk with great team work!
Goff Norrington and John Harrison were our starters on the day and sent the teams on their way up the first and thirteenth fairways!
Jane and I were in charge of the gazebo and managed to get it in place ready for Viv Allen and her friend Wendy to set up the 'halfway tent'.
Jane had arranged for our 'ball spotters' to work in shifts so thank you to Carol Eldridge, Stella Pitt, Pat Donovan, Sue Stickland, Helen Venis, Diana Scott, Sadie Millgate, Julie Harris, Rena Jone's, Lisa Kiddie, Pat Leadbetter, Belinda Evans, Jane's Nieces and Denise Farley.
Unfortunately one Lady was stung by a wasp but no first aid was needed as she had anti-histamine's and pain killers with her!
Prizes were very kindly donated by the guys in the Pro-Shop and I must admit the prize table looked great!
Kate and her team put on a good rolling buffet with all sorts of cold meats and various salads, followed by strawberries and cream, then coffee.
Prizes were awarded as follows:
Nearest the Pin - Vicki Ely - Sundridge Park
Longest Drive - Anne Goodchild
Best Team name - Morris and the not so Minors
6th Place - Potential Tigers - 85 Points
5th Place - Lady Birdies - 88 (on count back)
4th Place - 3 off the Tee - 88
3rd Place - Return of the 3 Birdies - 89
2nd Place - 2 Fat Ladies + 1 - 90
1st Place - Ladies of the Fairway - 96 from Stone Lees Golf Club
There was a birdie 2's competition and there were 5 ladies who managed a Birdie!
The event managed to raise around £600 to £650 for the Ladies Section and £310 for the Lady Captains Charity.
I had so many Ladies approach me to say that they have never been to such a well organised Open competition where the Ladies were so helpful! They fully appreciated the 'ball spotters' being r on the course knowing that their balls had been found and also helping to keep play going.
As I said at the presentation our organiser for this year Jane Woodward has done and excellent job not only in securing 33 teams but in organising the event so well. It takes a lot of hard work and effort to make the day a success but Jane certainly achieved her goal so congratulations to her!
A huge thank you to all the Ladies that played a part on the day and for making it a great success.

Ladies V Wednesday Boys
This was a new match for this year as Goff Norrington was keen to mix the Ladies and Gents where possible!
There were some good matches played and everyone that took part enjoyed their games.
The final result was that we lost 4 - 2 but hopefully another date can be fixed for this next year!
