26 couples took part in the mixed competition on Sunday 21st October. The early starters definitely had the best of the weather whereas the last players out had to put up with the miserable rain. Despite this it was a great turnout and a good day was had by all. The results were as follows:
1st Lynne and Pete Skelton 43 pts
2nd Rena Jones & Lew Evans 39 pts
3rd Lisa Kiddie & Steve Wright 37 pts
Front 9 - Caroline & John Harrison 19 pts (on c/b with 6 couples!)
Back 9 - Kim Wollen & Kevin Swaisland 20pts
We were also very lucky to have Lawrence Dallaglio with us courtesy of the Skeltons- well Ok it was only a life size cardboard cut out of him but he still looked great!
Well done to all the winners and I look forward to seeing you all at the next mixed on November 4th

Charity Challenge - Saturday 20th October 2012
Today we had our Charity Challenge Match..this was a match between the Club Captain, Chris Wallace and his Vice Captain, Goff Norrington vs myself (Lady Captain) and Debbie Conder (Lady Vice Captain)...
It was a great battle...The handicaps were well balanced resulting in Debbie, Goff and I all getting 2 shots....Following a lot of ridicule on the 1st Tee from the "Merlins" poor Chris didn't get off to a good start down the 1st hole, but came back fighting. Debbie and I went 2 down after 3 holes and were still 2 down after 7 holes....
We battled back to "All Square" by the time we were standing on the 13th Tee....We won the 14th hole and were doing well until we got to the 15th green...Goff sank a monster sized putt for a 3 and we were then back level on the 16th tee....the 16th was not a good hole for us..we both hit the tree and walked off the green 1 down....after a tense battle we managed to halve the 17th with a par and then stood on the 18th tee needing to win the hole to square the match...and that's what we did..a 3 was good enough..thank goodness...the stress and concentration was unbelievable!
What a great match..and the end result was that we raised a fantastic £135 for each of the two charities and Graham West and Keith Root were the winners of "Guess the Score".
Caroline, Lady Captain.

Mixed Team Results
14 teams took part on the Spitfire course. The competition had a new format this year with drawn teams of 2 men and 2 ladies with 2 scores counting holes 1-6, 3 on holes 7-12 and all 4 scores on holes 13-18. We received very positive feedback with many members enjoying playing with people they hadn't played with before. We also had quite a few people playing for the first time and it was great to see the competition so well supported with a really good atmosphere in the club house afterwards.
The prizes on the day were awarded as:
1st Jane Watkins, Sue Stickland, John Suttling and Richard Hart 117 pts
2nd Caroline Harrison, Debbie Conder, Roger Woodhams and John Williams 115
3rd Pat West, Gill Newson, Tony Hall and Terry Fogarty (113 pts on c/b)
Unfortunately after the presentation of the prizes, the cards were rechecked and although all individual hole's stableford points and total front and back 9 scores had been correctly recorded and checked, I had not spotted an error on one of the cards in the adding up of the front and back 9 scores. This meant that the team in 3rd place with 113 pts had in fact got a magnificent winning score of 118 points. My apologies to Pat, Gill, Tony and Terry for this oversight and I thank them for their patience whilst the situation was rectified. They have now been compensated so that their prizes reflect their winning score with all other prizes remaining unchanged. Congratulations to all the winners and a big thank you to everyone who took part.
As an added incentive during the competition we also had a nearest the pin challenge on the 18th which was won by Laurie Beech with a fabulous hole in one! Well done to Laurie who had an expensive day at the bar as a result! This also raised £28 for Carolines charity - The Teenage Cancer Trust
The next mixed takes place on Sunday 21st October and is a Mixed Betterball. The sign up sheet is already up in the corridor so please put your names down if you are interested. We've been so lucky with the weather this year - lets hope we manage to complete the last 2 mixed competitions without any rain!

Lady Captain's Away Day
My Away Day was held on Thursday 6th September at Pedham Place, in lovely sunshine.
It was a great day with 30 ladies taking part. Quite a few of us had never played the course before. It was a links type course and was very enjoyable, sometimes it was tricky to work out which mound you should aim over to find the fairway but it was good fun.
Results were as follows;
1st Me, Belinda Evans and Diana Scott
2nd Kelly Hanson Julie Harris and Lisa Kiddie
3rd Lydia Doherty, Helen Cornwell, Jean Alback
Longest Drive: Georgina Venus
Nearest The Pin: Lisa Kiddie
Thanks again to Lydia for sorting the venue for me, Judith for making the cards for the day (based on my Olympic 5 ring theme!!) and Debbie C for helping on the day. My biggest thanks go to all of you who took part in the day. Thank you for taking time to join me and make the day such a lovely one to remember.

Bader Cup update
As you may remember "The Bader Cup" held in April 2012, was a qualifying competition which was won by Sue and Malcolm Gofton. On August 7th Sue and Malcolm took part in the regional finals which was held at North Downs Golf Club in Surrey.
Sue has reported back on a fabulous day at a very friendly club whose undulating course was in great condition.........." Malcolm and I had played their mixed open the week before to do a 'rekkie' of the course and came second so were really looking forward to the day. However it was not to be as we came in with 33 which was quite respectable with only a few above us and our playing partners actually won with 40. They were Sheila and Roger Forster from Princes GC who actually know some of our members so that was really nice. They were speechless as 40 points wasn't that high. So they are off to sunny Portugal for 5 nights all expenses paid in November lucky things!!
Never mind there is always new year…………" Sue

Lovely warm weather greeted us at the Mixed St Andrews Greensome Stableford competition on Sunday 19th August. A field of 10 teams of 4 went out on the Hurricane and a good time was had by all with some very impressive scores! The results were as follows:

Congratulations to the winners and thank you to everyone who took part.
Please spare a thought for poor Sue Stickland, Arthur Watson and Rena Jones who were raring to go but were unable to take part as the 4th member of their team failed to appear on the day - we look forward to seeing the 3 of you in the next mixed competition!
The next mixed competition is the Tunisian Greensomes on 2nd September. I will be taking the list down today so please contact me asap if you wish to enter and have not signed up.

We are almost into August so I thought I would be brave and take on 'posting' the results of this years friendlies to date!
Firstly, I would like to thank Rena Jones, Sue Stickland and Belinda Evans for covering the Captains role for the matches as you can imagine this is a very busy time of year for both Kevin and me.
I would also like to thank those ladies that have taken part in the friendlies and I hope you have enjoyed playing the various courses on the away days.
Unfortunately due to bad weather some matches have had to be postponed but hopefully the weather will contnue to improve so that we can get the matches played.
Results as follows:
West Malling V Hever = Won 2-1
West Malling V Weald of Kent = Won 4-0
Tudor Park V West Malling = Lost 3-1
Canterbury V West Malling = Match abandoned due to bad weather!
We still have to play Lamberhurst away on 26th July, Kingshill at home on 2nd August, Woodlands away on 23rd August, St Augustines at home on 22nd September and finally Bearsted away on 1st November.
Please keep an eye on the board for updates etc and lets hope we win some of the remaining matches!
