LADY CAPTAIN'S REPORT FEBRUARY 2014.

Well this month’s report will be short and sweet (just like your Lady Captain). Well the saying goes the lull before the storm so to speak. Well unfortunately we had the storm along with the devastation it has caused to the courses. I can’t believe the damage and the loss of so many beautiful trees. I’m sure you will all join me in wishing the management all the best in the clear up operation. A lot of work has already been completed and most of the foliage from the fallen trees has been removed just leaving the trunks and larger logs to be cleared. I know a lot of support and willing help has been forthcoming from the members. Unfortunately along with the storm and continued rain the courses have been closed and just on the odd occasion open for a short time. I did manage to get out and play the spitfire last Tuesday but it was very wet in places.

My first fun competition for the year to coincide with Valentine’s Day is due to be played this Tuesday and Saturday. I’m overwhelmed by the response from the Tuesday Ladies with over 30 ladies signing up to play. Let’s just hope it goes ahead however the signs are not looking good.

Looking ahead the signup sheets are now up for the Cecil Leitch 5 Club competition and we have the Ladies v Vets match to look forward to in March. More details to follow.

Lastly the new A3 diaries are available in the changing rooms, so please encourage everyone to take a copy. As mentioned at the AGM the first copy given out was a rough guide and obviously we had to fit our dates in and around the over sections schedules, so please check your diaries for changes.

Let hope for a drier February.

Best Wishes Jane.

Bradley Cook

This year the format has changed and instead of a straight knockout there is a round robin group stage.  West Malling has drawn Redlibbetts and Mid Kent in the group stage.  The winners of the group go into the knockout stages of the Bradley Cook and the runners up in the group go into the knockout stages of the Plate.
Mid Kent have a strong team and we were beaten by Redlibbetts last year in the semis of the Plate, so we have a difficult task to get through but I know everyone will give it their best.
Good Luck Ladies!

LADY CAPTAINS REPORT JANUARY 2014.

LADY CAPTAINS REPORT JANUARY 2014.

Well I can’t believe it’s been well over a year since Debbie stood up at the AGM and announced me as being her Vice-Captain. Where has the time gone!!! What a fantastic year Debbie has had and I only hope I can carry on the great work. Debbie has worked tirelessly for the good and benefit of the Ladies section meeting every challenge head on. With such a positive attitude and a continued smile on her face. I have to say it’s been a pleasure to have been her Vice.
As you all know the Lady Captain starts her term of office at the AGM and this year that fell on the 1st December. After a very successful AGM we proceeded to compete in a 12 hole Texas scramble. This event was well supported and from the comments afterwards thoroughly enjoyed. I would like to thank Judith for her support in organising this event.
The first event on the calendar for the new Captain is the Ladies Christmas lunch which followed very quickly after the AGM. We started off with the 12 hole stableford competition. There were some amazing scores over the 12 holes and the winner with 25pts was Anne Jenner on c/b from Julie Harris with Caroline Harrison in third with 24pts. Well done Anne. Again expertly organised by Judith many thanks again. 48 Ladies sat down to a Christmas carvery lunch complete with all the trimmings and the obligatory Christmas cracker.  A good time was had by all. Many thanks to Kate and her team for providing the food and service on the day.
Also a big thank you to Peggy baker who kindly donated the superb table decorations they really did add a splash of colour to the proceedings. These were presented to the Ladies with birthdays close to the Christmas diner.
This brings us too New year’s day when officially the Captains have their Drive in. It was great to see such support from friends and family on the day. As we braved the weather and went outside 11 previous ladies captains were present and the obligatory photos were taken before the drive in. Everything was calm until I teed the ball up and tried to grip the club. What had happened to my hands I couldn’t stop them from shaken.  At least my drive was straight down the middle at 138 yards. Lee Venus was the lucky winner of a very nice bottle of Moet.  Back inside into the dry for the speeches. I was able to announce my Charities for the year. Which are the “Mid Kent Breast Cancer Research Appeal” and a percentage to “Help for Heroes”. It’s also an opportunity to present my Vice-Captain for the year and I am delighted to announce that Georgina Venus has agreed to take up this role, and has already come up with some challenges for fund raising. So watch out for information on the notice boards.

I would like to take a moment to thanks everyone who has so generously supported me so far. For their time, advice and donations. And especially the unsung heroes on the committee who work tirelessly behind the scenes.

Here’s to a FUN golfing 2014.

Jane.

Mixed betterball 15th December results

Well what a great time we all had yesterday at the last mixed competition for 2013. The weather just about held out for us although it was quite a grey day day and as we had a field of 24 teams the last few fourballs definitely had a struggle with the diminishing light. Everyone entered into the Xmas spirit - Jane kindly provided us with mince pies and I know quite a few people had hip flasks and "special" coffees to help them along their way. There were also quite a few Xmas jumpers on display and I must commend the Kiddies in particular on their matching "His n Her" Santa Jumpers! Anyway to the results:

1st John Harrison & Jenny Junor 41 pts
2nd Jane Woodward & Kevin McLean 40 pts
3rd Debbie Conder & Joseph McDonagh Brown 39 pts (on c/b)

NP ladies - Lorraine Twining
NP men - David Leadbetter

The nearest the pin on the 18th was arranged at the last minute so my apologies if you weren't aware (I only found out about half way round!) but it was great to have this extra incentive at the end of the round. Thank you to Joe Harris who provided the prizes for this.

Thank you to Gill for all her help with the organising - you've been a great support and I wish you well for next year. Also a huge thank you to everyone who joined in at the last minute due to people pulling out - Molly,Clive, Lisa, Colin, Pat and Joseph. Apologies and well done to Gina who had to play on her own - what a star!
Rena what ARE you doing??
Having Fun!!

Ahhhhhh!!!!

Kip Pulling Summer Mixed Matchplay Results

The Kip Pulling is the summer mixed matchplay competition. This year 19 teams took part and there were some extremely well contested matches.

The winners of the trophy were Sue Stickland & Kevin McLean. The runners up were Rob & Lorraine Twining.

Congratulations to the winners Sue & Kev  who were able to put their disappointment of  being runners up the previous year behind them. A big thank you from me to everyone who took part and made this such a good competition.

Results - St Anrdews Greensomes 3rd November

It was good to see 12 teams of 4 take part especially as it was the day after the Captains Dinner Dance and I'm sure there were a few pairs feeling worse for wear. Eventually everyone got their heads around the format and a good time was had by all on what was a very fresh autumnal day fortunately without any rain. This was a team event with the pairs being drawn together. Prizes were awarded to the 1st and 2nd placed teams and the best pair. The results were as follows:

1st John & Caroline Harrison, Sue Stickland and Kevin McLean      77 pts
2nd Diana & Duncan Scott, Elaine Katter & Norman Kane                 73pts

Best Pair was awarded to Carrie & Laurie Beech with 41 pts (Caroline & John Harrison had 42 pts but were part of the winning team)

Huge thank you to Gill Newson for doing most of the preparation for today’s competition as I was on holiday leading up to the event. Also thank you Jane for her support on the day.

Mixed Betterball Results - Sunday 20 October

Another successful mixed event with 22 couples taking part. It looked at one point as though the competition was going to be called off due to the torrential rain but as the first group stood on the tee, the sun decided to put in an appearance. Most of us managed to play the round with just the odd shower here and there throughout. My heart did go out to the last few groups who had to play the last 3 or 4 holes during a downpour although I know some members (mentioning no names) found this highly amusing! You really do have to lovethe banter on a Sunday during these competitions!! Anyway despite the weather there were some great scores in and the results were:

1st Sara & Peter Burbridge                    43 pts
2nd Georgina Venus & Steve Deacon     40pts
3rd Donna & Martin Chuter                   39pts

A huge thank you from me to everyone who turned up and played on the day. I'm sure it was very tempting to call off looking at the weather first thing Sunday morning but we only had 2 people pull out and one was because buggies were not permitted which is totally understandable. It was lovely to see Jeff Alback go out with Jean despite not being able to use a buggy and really good to see them back playing in the mixed competitions.

2nd Jane Woodward, Donna Chuter, Lew Evans and Steve McIntosh         110 pts

AGM Proposals & Committee Volunteers

Dear Ladies

The AGM will take place on Sunday 1st December 2013.

The proposal form has been placed in the Ladies Changing room along with the form for volunteering to be part of the Committee. Being part of the committee is a great way of learning everything that happens at the club, Ladies Section and improves your knowledge of the rules and the game itself!

The minutes of last year's meeting will be available at the beginning of November. If we have an email address then these will be emailed to you, if we do not have an email address then we will envelope the minutes and agenda and leave the envelopes in a box in the changing room so that you can collect them at your leisure.

Hope to see you on the day.

Debbie
Lady Captain

Thank you!

I just wanted to say a big thank you to those of you that managed to join me for golf, tea and cake to celebrate my birthday.
No it wasn't a birthday with an '0' on the end but I had been planning to hold a coffee morning at some stage, and thought that this was an ideal opportunity to do just that!

We managed 9 holes of golf on the Thursday as it was rather windy and chilly, however, Saturday's weather was much improved so we got a full round in.

I received some lovely birthday cards, thank you and you also managed to raise £52.00 for my charity!

Thanks again!

Debbie

This was a new match set up this year. There was a great turn out with nine pairs matches playing.

Well done to the Ladies who managed to beat the Pegasus Guys 5-3!

There was a lovely surprise when Bob Appleby produced a wonderful plate trophy that Pegasus had purchased, so its great to have this in the Ladies calendar as an annual event. We will be the first to engrave it too!!

Again there were some great matches and banter and the day was enjoyed by all.

Thank you Ladies you did the Ladies Section proud!!
