Ladies Club Championship 2015

At the weekend we held our 36 holes championship where we crowned our

2015 Club Champion - Lydia Doherty

And

Handicap Trophy Winner - Elaine Katter

An insight on the two days can be summed up as follows:

Saturday proved to be a tough day putting on the Spitfire with talk of how tricky it was on the course. The Sunday draw was done before everyone headed off home with time to prepare for day 2.  Thanks go to Jane for processing the cards speedily.

We expected wet weather on Sunday  and we weren't disappointed ! Our 22 brave ladies persevered through heavy rain and played the Hurricane which held its condition remarkably well.

We all got drenched but we finished unlike the men's competition which was abandoned due to bad weather. We were not given the option! We did make lots of noise in the clubhouse afterwards.

Finally, I thank Jane and Lisa for sorting out the cards speedily so we could do the prize giving. This one is by far the most difficult to work through given the complexity of running 2 comps in one and over 2 courses which means our handicap system needs some figuring out.

So as July draws to a close we are more than half way through the season. Our next trophy comp is the Archer 5 club on 6th September - the sign up sheet is on the noticeboard

Tappin Trophy Result

I'm pleased to say that West Malling are through to the semi finals of the Tappin Trophy. Myself, Gina Wilson and Molly Ball braved a very wet and windy afternoon at West Malling on Friday and managed a win against the Ladies from Mid Kent. Thanks go to our captain Carol Martin and Sue G, Carol, Rena and Jane who came along to support us.
We're now waiting to hear who we've got in the semi finals - lets just hope the weather is a bit kinder to us!!

Mixed Flag Competition Results

Sunday 12^th July saw the Mixed Flag Foursomes competition. Although a really tricky format everyone entered into the spirit of this fun competition.

The weather mostly behaved and 16 couples took part.

The winners were Clive and Sadie Millgate who were the only ones to go up the 19th.

2^nd  Steve Lewis and Rena Jones who made it to the 18th.

3^rd   Roy Allen and Sue Stickland who were also on the 18^th.

Thank you to everyone who entered and the next competition is the Tunisan Greensomes Stableford and the list is up ready for you all to sign.

TEENAGE CANCER TRUST (TCT) GOLF DAY

Ladies 

Steve Mcintosh is hosting a charity golf day at West Malling in September. Steve had sent details below and will be posting information at the club. For ease I bring your attention to this day so that if you are interested you can contact Steve. 

TEENAGE CANCER TRUST (TCT) GOLF DAY

WEST MALLING GOLF CLUB

WEDNESDAY 9th SEPTEMBER 2015

As you may be aware my son, Luke, was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 21, in November 2013. He was treated on the Teenage Cancer Trust Unit at the Royal Marsden Hospital, Sutton. The quality of his treatment and care was outstanding and without doubt, the age specific surroundings and support provided by TCT contributed to his recovery.  After his chemotherapy, he had the remains of the tumour removed in May 2014 and is now back at work and playing football.  He is now an ambassador for TCT and is running the London Marathon for them in April 2016.  

Around seven young people aged between 13 and 24 are diagnosed with cancer every day in the UK. They need expert treatment and support from the moment they hear the word ‘cancer.’ TCT are the only charity dedicated to making this happen.

If successful I am hoping to make this an annual event.

The day will cost £40 (£20 for West Malling members) and will consist of;

Coffee and bacon rolls on arrival,

18 holes of golf (shotgun start)

Ham egg and chips after.

There will be team prizes,

Individual prizes for 14 handicaps and below,

Individual prizes for 15 – 28 handicaps,

Nearest the pin, nearest in 2 and nearest in 3 prizes,

‘Straightest drive’ prize (gives the shorter hitters a chance)

Beat the pro competition,

‘Mulligan’ balls will be available to purchase on the day,

And as it will be a shotgun start, the best 4 starting holes will be up for auction on the day. (1st, 13th, 15thand 18th)
