As I sit to write this report I realise this is my 7th report for
the year so I do hope everyone is being kept up to date with stuff throughout
the section by way of this, the blog, and the newsletter on all the happenings
ladies section related.
June was a milestone month for me personally. I had survived 7
months in the role and it has really whizzed by. We are gripped well and truly in the golf
season now. Not a weekend is free as it is golf, golf, golf! I am not complaining though as I am enjoying
taking part and playing more than ever!
I had a lovely Lady Captains day accompanied on the day by Vicky
Richardson as we were able to play a few holes of golf whilst you all fought it
out for the trophy and prizes. Then to
have a section wide sit down lunch where there was lots of fun and laughter
made it really special. My family and special friends who provide me with lots
of support joined and it was nice for them to see everyone in good form.
We had lots of winners and prizes spread around – Julie Harris
nabbed the overall trophy and got cut to 17 so big congratulations to Julie who
is really on form right now and may have enjoyed the Prosecco more than the
rest of us to celebrate her success.
Then there was Sara Burbridge and Jane Woodward who got 2nd
and 3rd respectively. Our
front and back 9 winners were Jeannette Johnson and Hazel Reucroft. Nearest the pin prizes and then Lee’s charity
hole prizes were spread out and a write up is on the blog. Really well played
ladies.
After lady captains day I then headed to Gillingham to play the 5
club challenge final. I scored 31 points
(38 won!) after a bad start but did win the longest drive of the day so all was
not lost. Spending the day catching up with golfing girlfriends from other
clubs also got my weeks break off to a good start!
So I left being lady captain behind for a week and headed off for
the long anticipated and talked about bike ride to Paris. It has been an
amazing challenge to do and support by way of texts, emails, cards, presents that
I have received either whilst I pedalled or since I returned has completely
taken me by surprise. Julie made sure
that blog updates were posted as Joe and I plotted our way to Paris and it was
an adventure where I met amazing people who do amazing things and realised for
a moment in time Joe and I were one of them. It was tough but rewarding in
every way and it will be a while before we forget about it. A question I keep
being asked; Would you do it again?
Repeating it would not be the same - as a fundraiser this is a one off! I may consider doing another adventure but
just for me though so you never know….
Money has continued to be sponsored since our return and the total
stands at a staggering £7500 with gift aid.
The 2 nominated lady captain charities this year will be blown away. I
cannot stop saying thank you if you supported us. My thanks also go to everyone
who filled in whilst I was away.
I returned fresher than I thought physically and headed straight
to Chestfield to play in the friendly. My mental focus was probably not the best but
I did have a lovely day out and knowing the lady captain there it was nice
comparing our experiences from our year to date. We all love a good catch up -
me included! The full report was posted on the blog.
I celebrated the longest day of the year by getting back on my
bike and cycling to the club as I was missing pedalling a bit and was really
thrilled to be able to join and support the charity 72 hole longest day golf
challenge completed by some crazy men from the Breakfast Club swindle. I walked
8 holes and provided encouraging banter and biscuits to ensure they kept
going. They started at 415am and
finished a little before 7 in the evening.
As they set off for their final 18 holes I chilled out on the patio with
a nice glass of wine.
And so the Masters weekend was upon us again. Our brave ladies
entered and played on the Saturday to qualify for day 2. We had 10 successful ladies make the cut …it
was very exciting and a great achievement.
And we had Top 10 and Top 20 finishes.
Julie was our most successful lady in joint 6th place so will
get some sweep money and Carrie Beech and Gill Newson were not far from
contention. My own Masters story this
year was not as successful as I had a tale of woe on my favourite hole where I
scored a massive 14 due to putting myself in a bunker and not being able to get
out in a timely manner. My sense of humour remained though and it is still my
favourite hole! Therefore, on the Sunday
I was a groupie and pushed Lee’s trolley round.
A junior won which was a terrific achievement and I made sure he had a
congratulations kiss from the Lady Captain.
June ended and July began. We had the self funded Mid week Trophy
played on the last day of June , won by Rena Jones then the Mid Season Trophy sponsored
by Pat West was played on 5th July - Jill Gambling and Kim Wellman
had a magnificent score of 53 points.
So our hall of fame winners for 2015 grows and we will celebrate
their success again later in the year at the Thanksgiving evening planned in
November so make sure the date is in your diary.
Its scorching and July is here - we have lots to look forward to. We have ladies invitation day on the 7th
where we will invite guests and showcase our section. The day will hopefully be a success and one
we can establish as part of our busy summer calendar. We have mixed comp
planned on the 12th and another friendly and then the club
championship weekend is scheduled for the last weekend in July so hopefully
everyone has signed up and taking part.
Finally, my congratulations go to all the winners during June. I have tried to contact everyone to say well
done but if I haven’t then I say WELL DONE publically. Swing
slow ladies.
