Chestfield Friendly - 17 June
An away fixture on a beautiful summers day always makes for a great day out.
The team arrived bright and early and had a warm welcome from the ladies and enjoyed coffee and biscuits outside in the sunshine.
Final adjustments were made to handicaps and shots for our matches as the stableford at West Malling the day before had some great scores so the red pen was needed on the pre prepared cards.
Thanks go to Jennie Aldridge, Judith Parkhurst, Sue Stickland, Pat West, Diana Scott, Judy Blackburn, Carol Eldridge for making themselves available. We lost 4-0 on this occasion as home advantage worked favourably for our hosts. The course was in good condition and the roll on the ball certainly took me by surprise a number of times! Our tea was well received afterwards too.
We have received a big 'thanks' already from our hosts - Sue their lady captain has said that it was one of the 'best friendly fixtures of 2015 so far'. That's nice feedback so well done ladies!
Thanks go to Lisa for organising along with Kay from chestfield. I am sure the invite for the return match next year will be sent soon.
Our next friendly fixture is against Canterbury at home on 11/7. The team will be posted shortly.

Tappin Trophy Result
Yesterday Julie Harris, Gina Wilson and Molly Ball travelled to West Kent GC with their Captain Carol Martin for the third round of the Tappin Trophy. The matches were all very close all finishing on the 18th and I'm pleased to say that West Malling emerged as victors 2-1 with Julie and Molly winning their matches and Gina narrowly missing out. We all thoroughly enjoyed our matches, had beautiful weather and were treated to sandwiches and drinks afterwards - all in all a lovely day out. We are now through to the quarterfinals and await to see who we have in the next round.

Day 4 London to Paris
Endured, Enjoyed, and got there!
Everybody, everybody Jolly Joe and I did it!
We have had the celebration too!!
They didn't sell prosecco so it was Tattinger champagne instead - life is tough when you reach Paris!!
The final day arrived and we set off very excited. Julie and Lee sent progress updates as they embarked on their adventure whilst JJ and I cruised through our morning of counting down the miles. The countdown felt surreal.
We had our first water stop of the day next to a beautiful château then had a picturesque ride to lunch which was just after 11.
I was able to tail Joe for the morning and after a wobble when I nearly got taken out by a French lady in a car I got a hug.
The afternoon was opposite for both. I found that Liv my bike was sluggish as my legs felt good and have since discovered my brakes were locked but I got there. I wasn't going to moan or give up!! JJ went hell for leather into the city with his Essex 4ball. He told me he stopped for beers just short of our final stop and it was the best beer!!
After an ice cream and a regroup we then set off in a proper peloton to the Eiffel tower where our special people awaited our arrival.
To say that cycling around the Arc de Triomphe and over the Seine was amazing just doesn't describe it. The going was painfully slow but finally we arrived.
We had welcoming banners bespoke to each of us from Steve and Sarah. We have a medal bought with love. We had Julie and Lee beaming and ready for snuggles. It doesn't get much better than that.
Then having cycled for 300 miles they wanted me to lift my bike up over my head and pose for photos. I am a girl of challenges so yes I managed that one.
And so we did it! Our adventure will be talked about for some time to come. Everyone who has sponsored us, sent words of encouragement are all part of it. We are proud and I cannot say how proud I am of JJ - he rocks!
The celebration night was fab but this was all about getting to Paris so my final words are thanks for supporting us and we smashed it!!
Biggest hugs g and JJ :-)

Paris Update Day 3
Day 3 Serenity in the Somme valley
Well another 80 miles clocked up. We have arrived safely at compeigne - there are even signs for Paris. Happy days everyone. 240 miles done :-)
Hey there georgie girl! is what they are singing!
I have most groups joining me for a little bit so I get respite from the head winds which returned today. I keep smiling and so am famous in the group. Everyone stops and chats we are very lucky with our group and crew!
We are even the fastest l2p's in a while! JJ is also not the oldest as there is a 71 year old doing the trip and he is not stopping at Paris he will continue to Geneva and nice. Amazing!!
JJ wasn't smiling too much first thing he stayed up in the bar until 2.15 am with the crew. He was smiling by the first water stop though and we had a nice selfie which I sent back to Julie and lee. However, get ready ... He did sleep (thank goodness) and he is on tour so staying up is obligatory. I left him at 12.
The cycle today was through the Somme valley - touching place to cycle through on a beautiful summers day as we missed the storm which was forecast. The place was eerie even all these years on. On a bike you are close to where it all happened. It is incredible that the feeling is still there.
I saw JJ at lunchtime - he has joined up with 3 other guys from Essex so he has a nice 4 ball as he calls it!
Another group dinner is planned tonight. We are being well looked after. I will have a beer o'clock with my team mate later.
And so Julie and Lee are ready to come get us in Paris. Stephen and Sarah will be cheering loudly. We can't wait. My roomy even has packed a wonder woman top with Cape so I will share pictures next week. I will leave you with that.....
Next stop Paris - 60 miles.
Biggest hugs
G :-)

Paris Update - Day 2
Halfway there - rolling
landscape all day today
We stayed in a nice 4* last night
I ended up in a cot like bed but it beat sharing the double bed with a stranger. My roomy is fun though so all good. We even had a bath in the room so happy days!
JJ had the big bed in his room and his roomy took the cot like bed. It meant he could sleep well. However, that was not to be as I heard this morning before the off! He woke at 2.15am - not seen him yet so he might be napping!!
We began with breakfast and a briefing then another 80 miles ticked off as we are now in Arras. Joe thinks the French just spelt his name wrong so it has been rechristened to Harris Ville.
Joe also learnt how to take a selfie this morning so there will be no stopping him!
He went off as a man on a mission this morning. It was a good days ride through the fields of the wars and it was brought to a conclusion late this afternoon as we passed the British cemetery. So well kept. Had a little moment there.
So we are in one piece with more miles behind us than in front. Your sponsor money is safe.
Challenges today have been the heat and keeping hydrated!
I spent some time today riding on my own just like my training. Not had that much time to think in a long time - watch out world as I do need to hatch some plans on my return!! Met a French family and they tagged in with me for 30 mins - it tested my not so good French but we laughed and they offered me a glass of wine with their friends - had to keep going!!
We have both met some great people in different groups so I am guessing by the end we will know everyone.
Off to dinner now to catch up with the happenings and compare our cycling tan lines.
Hugs to you all

WEALD OF KENT
FRIENDLY MATCH
WEDNESDAY 9TH
JUNE
Today, a friendly team went to the Weald of Kent for a
4BBB. There was both sun and cloud but
the wind was pretty strong with a chill in the air.
I have to say all ladies seemed to be in good spirit – and our
opposition were extremely good at helping us to navigate our way around their
course……… so helpful, in fact that the final scores were:
West Malling – Wins = 3
Lost
= 1
Well done ladies!
Thank you to Jill Gambling, Lindsay Hart, Carol Eldridge,
Eileen Tuson, Margret Barnard, Diana Scott and Jean Alback for making such an
enjoyable day.

Paris Update - Day 1
Day one - monster hills conquered!
Ladies
Jolly Joe and I are now winging our way to France
We made the ferry.
Joe had time for coffee but I didn't as I had had a puncture so have already tested the support services and they came to my rescue and got me going again. I was only a mile from Dover.
Today was tough and we both can't wait to get to the hotel 😄
Highlights
- Julie, Lee and Kalli came to wave us off. It was really cold so they are Heros and we can't wait to see them in Paris.
- messages of support have been flooding all day and we are both very grateful. Thank you
- the fundraising total blows our mind !
- I was still smiling when I got to Dover and a few people commented to me.
- Someone gave me a tenner in dartford who recognised me from golf and asked what I was doing. Joe laughed at that bit! Especially as I couldn't remember his name!
- Julie,Lisa (with baby Ryan, Luke n Matthew) and Jane cheered us on near East Malling - sorry I didn't stop too long but I was on a mission :-)
- JJ loved seeing his family and he had signs up - he is still grinning now.
- Lees mum and dad were in Dover cheering us on - too far away but I knew they were there.
Low lights
- The hills just kept coming - even JJ was surprised - my name was mud at some points as I did actually challenge him to this adventure.
- I had a puncture an adventure in itself! I have no spare inner tubes now! Fingers crossed I don't need them.
- we had a headwind all day - 22 mph according to JJ! Brutal
And so we reach Calais in a bit
Our hotel awaits and we may even squeeze in a cold beer as the tour leader has said that's what we need to do. I have to stretch before bed so will update tomorrow.
Hugs g

Good Luck Georgina and Joe
Just wanted to wish Our Lady Captain Georgina and my hubbie Joe the best of luck for their cycle ride from Blackheath to Paris tomorrow with Discover Adventure Challenges. I think you're both absolutely mad but also have the utmost respect and admiration for what you are undertaking. I'm not sure quite how you managed to fit in training alongside work and Lady Captain commitments Georgina but I know the prospect of raising money for two very worthy charities has kept you going. I'm sure you'll make many new friends en route amongst the Fellow cyclists in your group and look forward to seeing you cross the line in Paris on Saturday.
Stay safe

Lady Captains Day 2015
As days go I had a lovely Lady Captains Day which whizzed by and hopefully like me you all enjoyed yourselves.
I am glad the sun had its hat on and we could get a section wide gathering to really ensure the day was memorable.
I was very lucky to have my family and friends around to see what I get up to when I say 'I am at golf!!' They all saw you all on good form.
I congratulate all our winners on the day
The lady captains day trophy was won by : Julie Harris with 39 pts
2nd Sara Burbridge on c/b 36
3rd Jane Woodward
Front 9 Hazel Reucroft
Back 9 Jeannette Johnson
Nearest the pins:

Well done also to all the ladies who beat Lee on the 17th hole. It will take a little time to get over the abuse you gave him! He will recover though!!
Support for the charity continued with another £150.50 raised.
Thanks at the end of the day remain with my lovely hubby for getting me home and now he is on a mission to feed me carbs ahead of my early start on Wednesday for the bike ride to Paris.
My thanks go to everyone for their best wishes and sponsorship. I have said to Julie that I will try to send an update on our the adventure as it unfolds so watch this space!! ...
Hugs to you all

Lady Captains Report – June 2015
We began May saying goodbye to Viv Allen. It was amazing to see the outpouring of love
felt for Viv and the opportunity to join her family and friends in a
celebration of her life where we learnt so much more about her life and
loves. At the Kings Arms there is a
memorial bench for Viv which is very elegant just like her and I am sure this
gives comfort to her loved ones. The
collection across the section amassed £500 which was split equally to the two
nominated charities so hopefully this will join other donations and these will
make a real difference. We look forward to seeing Roy playing more regularly at
the club and I am sure he and the rest of the family have
felt the love.
The rest of the month has been full again with plenty of golf days
and sunshine.
The Pearson team battled with home and away fixtures against
Sittingbourne but our 2015 campaign came to an end on the 22nd. I would like to congratulate the team for all
their efforts and for giving their all in the matches which were close but
victory was not to be. Rena captained
the team again and took some tough decisions so my thanks go to her for a great
job in 2014/15 season and to Judith for her support as the newly appointed
banana lady. Our supporters are never far away and to see a friendly face in
the middle of a match is very appreciated so thank you to all of you for the
time given during the season.
Thank you continues as Jeannette and Bernie led a quiz nite on 15th
May and ensured most of us were left scratching our heads with some of the
testing questions they dug out for the occasion. We added to the charity by over £300 which is
fantastic along with the 13 teams who came along and supported the evening. We
look forward to another in October.
The friendlies continue and we had one at home and one away during
the month which I was able to play in.
Nizels at home was a good afternoon and we sat in the sunshine after the
match enjoying tea and cake which was a treat – we won all our matches which
was a great result against a good team – my playing partner Molly certainly
provided me with lots of on the course entertainment on the day. Then we headed
off to Redlibbets.where we lost as a team but enjoyed the hospitality of the
ladies who I know well from my time at the club. The course was in great condition and
everyone seemed to have a lovely day including my playing partner Elaine Katter
who doesn’t usually play in the friendlies but realised it is a good
opportunity to hone those matchplay skills!
Lisa continues to enjoy setting them up and write ups are on the blog.
On Sunday 17 May, I enjoyed a lovely day in the sunshine caddying
with Donna Chuter our reigning club champion who represented West Malling in
the Kent County Champion of Champions at Littlestone, a links course, so a
different style of play was required.
Donna won against her playing partners and putted lovely in tough
conditions. No prizes for us but we were
treated to a nice lunch and it was nice to spend time with Donna who was great
company.
Next up was the Swinging 60s Texas Scramble day followed by
lunch. I was able to join the day as I
fitted it around work along with Lisa. The day was organised by Eunice and Pam
and it was a great happy day with prizes galore and there was attendance from
some club elders who joined the lunch. I
was even sent some photos from the day which certainly brought a smile to my
face last week. Being a special guest was a treat as I am some way off joining
this group!
We said farewell to Margaret Hoban. The funeral was at her local church and lots
of ladies were able to attend to pay respects on behalf of the section. We sent
a donation to the chosen charity as flowers were not requested. Due to Pearson
I was not able to attend but heard it was a lovely service.
Our final event of May was our mixed away day to Boughton where
there were good scores, a good lunch and well organised again by Gill who has
put a write up on the Blog.
We moved the Ladies vs the Men day planned for 31 May to 11 October
as lots of people were away so hopefully we will be able to run the rescheduled
event then, the sign up sheet has been put up on the mixed notice board already. All was not lost though as we ran an impromptu
competition for 32 people and enjoyed a scrummy lunch afterwards. The weather
although a little wet did not dampen the mood as guests joined golfers.
There will be no let-up in June.
The pace continues with Lady Captain’s day on 7th June. I am really pleased that so many ladies are
looking forward to our own day playing the Hurricane followed by a lunch and I
am lucky that I have lots of help from family and friends on the day who are
also able to join us and meet everyone. I
then complete my challenge to Paris (thankfully the time has nearly arrived) and
I look forward to the celebration on the 13 – 15 June. We have some treats
planned in Paris and I am sure all the people that Joe and I meet along the way
will provide us with some great times. The charity money still blows me away
and I am grateful to everyone for their generosity, it has been great to share
the year with friends, colleagues and clients outside of the golf club who now
know about West Malling Golf Club and are eager to support.
Finally, my congratulations go to all the winners during May and
as we enter June we can look forward to the first hole on the Spitfire being
opened for the Masters Weekend - so it
is all exciting along with all the comps, opens and matches that are organised. I wish you continued good golfing. Swing slow.

Can you look and see if you are available and let me know. It is always a good value nice day out and a good golf test.
